Kara, Holly, and Olivia are always pleasant and incredibly helpful. Kara has even taken time in her off hours to help answer basic questions for us as concerned new parents . We have been so appreciative. As new parents, it has been so nice and reassuring to have such a loving and supportive staff for those times where we've been worried. I find the previous review funny because regarding my child's health, it is all about the doctor and not their staff. The office could be in the back of a taqueria, and the staff could all be part of the witness protection plan, but if the doctor is spot on then that's the one for me. When looking for a pediatrician, Dr. Coit came highly recommended by local doctors and nurses at both Eisenhower and Desert Regional. Many of them told us that Dr. Coit would be the only doctor that they would choose. Our son has been seeing Dr. Coit for 4 months and we could not be happier with both the care our son gets, and the education we get as parents. He takes the time to answer all our questions and even answers the questions we do not know to ask yet. My son's circumcision was painless, at least for us, with no complications or any of the horror stories you hear about. The procedure, done at his office, was quick and easy, and our son was back peeing on mom with glee in less than a week. Picking a doctor is tough, but for us, picking Coit was the right choice. Coit is an amazing doctor! But his receptionist is terrible! Coit was amazing with my son for his first month check up. We had concerns with his circumcision so we decided to go with another doctor to perform it. We never dropped him as a pediatrician. We tried to schedule a 2 month check up, but lady said we discussed with them about going with another doctor. Never had that conversation with her or anyone from his staff. They refused to schedule a 2 month check up due to going with the circumcised doctor. She continued to state we could not use Coit for his pediatrician practice! Never heard of that ever! New to the desert. Came here solely based on yelp reviews. My experience was not at all as the other reviews. I had to double check to make sure I actually had the same place! The reception staff made me feel like like I was the new kid on the playground and not cool enough to be part of the crew. They whispered, grimaced and generally made my son and I feel like a bother in their day. Aside from Charging me a co-pay that they shouldn't have (that's not even why I'm giving them 1 star), their snide remarks and general inconsideration for a new patient was disappointing. Lastly, Dr. Coit did not look confident dealing with my sons breathing condition. Seemed nervous and shakey. I'd question the past reviews and in fact noted that all the reviews under the "not recommended" section were all 5s which makes me question the credibility and integrity of this practice. Sorely disappointed. Updated... Yelp doesn't give me an option to respond to Dr. Coit's response. So I'm doing so here. All I can say is the fact that you even wrote the condescending response that you did assures me that your practice is the pompous kind that I'm glad I "quickly departed" from. After being here for a few months and speaking to other families, it seems that your office is not as well reputed as your Yelp reviews appear to be. You, my dear doctor, are truly unprofessional. Dr Coit is a kind doctor. However, It's clear he is nearing retirement, so if you are looking at developing a long relationship, it's probably best to find another Dr. Additionally, the office staff is horrible, rude, not accommodating. The attitude is that you (the patient) are lucky to be there. On more than one occasion, I have called the office (during stated office hours) and no one answers. Dr. Coit is the only physician there and no longer has another dr to cover (Dr. Shih is no longer there). This practice seems to serve a handful of families and cannot accommodate the needs of all its patients. Very disappointing. I need to get my daughter in and he is on vacation for two weeks with no one covering. I love this office. Dr Coit is very personable and simply amazing with all three of my children from the time my son was a newborn and with my two daughters, ages 3 and 4. You can truly see the love he has for kids which is golden in a pediatrician. My kids also love seeing Colby, Dr Coit's (very docile and friendly) black lab that joins him on some of our visits. And the front desk ladies are a riot. I enjoy each of my visits and even phone calls. Seriously, they have a fantastic sense of humor that has a way of making your day, or at the very least, forces you to crack a smile. They also know how to handle serious and delicate situations with tact. Trust me, I certainly had a few between my three kiddos. The nurse or PA is also incredible. She's amazing with all three of my kids and always engages with them to make them feel comfortable. I honestly can't see taking my kids anywhere else. It's unfortunate that some of the reviews here are so contradicting. Truth is, not everyone is going to like the same pediatrician or office. Just like not everyone likes every person they've met, regardless how others perceive them. You just have to try for yourself to see if they are a good match for you and your family. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this physician and the office staff! It's a small office that pays attention to detail. They are picky about which patients they take and as a result the care is exceptional. The staff as a whole calm all fears and truly take an interest in your family. She was my daughter's doctor for the first 3 years of her life. I absolutely love this doctor. Unfortunately, we had to switch due to insurance changes, but I wish we could go back. My family has been seeing Dr Coit for almost 14 years over 4 children. He's by far the best pediatrician we have in the desert! The wait time in his office is always 5 minutes or less. He's very gentle with my children. I know this because he did all 3 of my boys' circumcisions. He also has a wonderful sense of humor and is very knowledgeable. He takes time to discuss any questions I have regarding my children. There are times we even get to see his lab. My kids love when his dog is in office! Kara, Dr. Coit's nurse, offers excellent advice and answers questions thoroughly every time I call. She's extremely patient when I have concerns about illnesses or my children reaching milestones. If necessary, she gets me an appointment to see the doctor immediately. She's quick to get my prescriptions faxed to the pharmacy, which is important with a sick child. Kara has been amazing to work with over the past 14 years! Holly has helped us numerous times when working with our insurance company. My family has double coverage, so in the past we've had issues, a couple of times, with the the insurance denying claims. Holly was able to figure things out for us. She is wonderful! Dr. Coit's office has worked with my oldest son whom is: autistic, ADHD and suffered from a traumatic brain injury. Over the past 14 years there were many times I was scared to death, exhausted and didn't know what to do. Dr. Coit and his staff were able to lead us to neurologists, therapists, and specialists (when needed), but were also able to help us in office much of the time. I should have written this review after my first horrible experience with this practice. From beginning to end Dr. Coit's office has been the most unethical practice I have ever attempted to attend for healthcare. We moved to La Quinta, CA from the East Coast and my daughter was 2.5 months old. I needed to get her a pediatrician immediately as to not fall behind on her vaccination schedule. Plus, as a new mom, it is comforting to have someone you trust in place in case anything should come up as it often does with newborns and infants. I also wanted to get her an appointment with a pediatrician because of a flatspot on her head which I believed needed medical attention. I asked my local mom's group and Dr. Coit's office came "highly recommended" from a few of the mom's. Naturally, I called the office to make an appointment for my daughter ASAP. I had already checked with insurance to be sure Dr. Coit was in network. The receptionist told me they were taking new patients then asked what insurance I have. When I told her Cigna, she LIED and told me they cannot work with that insurance. I explained that I had already confirmed with insurance and then had my insurance company reach out to them to also confirm. His office never called me back after hearing from my insurance. I called multiple times and they still lied about not accepting my insurance. Being a healthcare provider myself, I explained they have an ethical obligation to take my daughter as a patient due to being in a contract with our insurance company. After much back and forth the receptionist ended up admitting that they accept our insurance but "last time had a hard time with billing" which is a complete made up lie and no healthcare providers have ever had issues billing my insurance. Dr. Coit's office apparently doesn't like the reimbursement rate of Cigna compared to other networks so they thought lying would be the answer. Wrong. I don't tolerate that. We went to the appointment and met with Dr. Coit. He was a nice man but in my opinion, way too old to be practicing medicine. He had to remove his hearing aids to "listen" to her heart. I have to wonder...what exactly did he hear? That was just one of the issues during the exam. After looking at the flat spot on her head, he provided a referral for a specialist which I will say was the only helpful part about going to this office. However, as any new mom would, I wanted to be thorough in my research for any medical needs that arise with my daughter. So, before making an appt. with a specialist who was over two hours away, I made an appointment with another pediatrician to get a second opinion so I could be more informed. I requested my daughter's records from Dr. Coit's office be sent to the other pediatrician for collaborative information. Fast forward to her 6 month exam where I call Dr. Coit's office to get her an appointment. When I attempted to make an appointment, Kara from reception stated "you are not welcome back to our practice since you saw another pediatrician. We recommend you stay with them." I tried to clarify why I wasn't welcome back and she was unable to give me an actual answer. Completely unethical as I was already an established patient of theirs. Since when is it not allowed to get a second opinion at another doctor to assure you are making the most informed decision for your child? Unacceptable. I then proceeded to send multiple emails to seek clarification from Dr. Coit's office in which the office ignored me purposely. Kara finally responded on my third attempt and word for word her email stated, "You are not a patient in our practice and we have no ethical or moral responsibility to accept you as a patient. We wish you the best but please stop contacting us". I wonder how these people sleep at night being so highly unethical towards patient's seeking healthcare for their children. Kara is not only wrong that I "am not a patient" she flat out lied yet again. To say I am disgusted with this practice is a complete understatement. They have lied multiple times and are highly unethical. I cannot believe anyone would recommend this practice. I will be going to the Better Business Bureau next. read more

Dr. Alan Coit and his staff are fabulous! Even before my son was born the office staff answered all my questions regarding immunizations, office visits, and general policies. Even as a soon to be new mom with a million questions Kara at the front desk treated me as if I was her only priority. As a nurse and a mom I can say this is the doctor I trust to work on my son. Dr. Coit has vast clinical knowledge and keeps update on the latest medical guidelines. He and his staff are gentle and caring; they have never belittled any issue or concern of mine. Kerri PA is another amazing resource, she treats everyone as if they were family! I can't possibly say enough good things about the people and as well as my experiences. I was turned away from this Doctor based on a clerical error THEY made. The Doctor came on a recommendation from a friend. I called to make my first appointment and the receptionist was very nice. I needed my daughter's booster flu shot as well as a 9 month appointment. The receptionist let me know they were out of the flu shot but assured me my daughter didn't need the booster. I hesitantly still made the appointment. After further consideration and many reports of deaths from the recent flu season, I thought perhaps I should see if any one else has the flu shot and if other doctors thought my daughter needed a booster. Turns out another doctor had the shot and highly recommended the booster. I cancelled my appointment with Doctor Coit via phone with 48 hours notice. I called to make my daughter's 1 year appointment and they stated I was not welcome because I was listed as a "no show" on my first appointment. I assured her I called but the receptionist stayed firm to their policy. I do NOT suggest this Doctor based on the fact that the receptionist is highly unorganized and gave me medical advice that contradicted someone who has a medical degree. Her incredible unprofessional efforts to recommend I do not need a booster shot (when it is in fact Doctor recommended) coupled with her inability to properly cancel an appointment made me rate this Doctor as low as possible. I understand Dr Coit is highly qualified and it is unfortunate his staff members are not. read more

Now that the subject of the doctor being "spot on" is broached, alas, there you go. Dr Coit and his staff were incredibly kind to my daughter and me today. We were visiting the area from LA, and my 8 week old daughter had a sudden eye infection. No local urgent cares would see us, so I started calling pediatricians hoping someone could take us. Not only did Dr Coit's office fit us in, they made sure to give me detailed directions so I wouldn't get lost in the medical center complex. We were seen quickly when we arrived, and they helped me find the most convenient pharmacy. We are extremely grateful to have found such a wonderful Doctor on short notice. read more

Dr Coit is a wonderful pediatrician. I have three kids under the age of 10. They all have been seeing him since they were born. He is very knowledgeable and he knows how to talk to kids and make them feel comfortable. His office staff is also top notch. Whenever my kids are sick, I know I can call the office and talk to Kara about what I should do. My daughter was very sick last year, I called Kara and she got us in immediately to see Dr Coit as she believed my daughters symptoms were an appendicitis. Dr Coit confirmed that she was in fact having an appendicitis and got us over to the ER and she was having surgery within a couple hours. I can't thank them enough for their fast action. Even the ER Doctor told me he was so impressed with my pediatrician. Hollee and Olivia are always so friendly and helpful as well when we come in. The entire office makes a great team! We have a 12 year old and 7 year old and I have been taking them both to Dr. Alan Coit since they were infants. Dr Coit was extremely helpful with my son's colic and once rushed us to Eisenhower past the ER line when my daughter had a severe case of croup. His staff is wonderful and are always helpful by phone if I have any concerns. Dr. Coit and his staff are very patient with new moms and are great about scheduling babies, flu patients and vaccination patients at separate times so you don't risk catching something else while you're there. We have been going to Dr.Coit for four years and have yet to have a bad experience. Both of my children have been under his care since birth and we have had zero problems, and if we do, the office staff makes sure to get us in the same day. It is unfortunate that others have not had the same experience as I have, that is why there are other doctors. What is great for some may not be so for the next person. Everyone has their own opinion...that is what makes the world go round. I recommend Dr.Coit to anyone who asks and will continue to do so. I trust Dr. Coit so much that I drive all the way from Riverside to see him. He treats my children like they are his only patients and they are always happy to see him. I never feel rushed. When I have a million (sometimes silly) questions, he answers them all patiently. And, what an amazing staff!! Kara has quite literally held my hand through some scary times, and I have never felt alone when it comes to the health of my two sons. I could not have asked for a better pediatrician than Dr. Coit. He is available, supportive, and the whole office cares for my family in a personal, nurturing way that I don't see very often these days. Both my children have had serious kidney issues and were it not for Dr. Coit taking care of them (and me!) I don't know where my family would be. Reading the review by Kay R made me angry and sad. People are still so averse to vaccines despite mountains of research (it's seriously the only thing the medical community agrees on people!) One of the reasons we chose Dr. Coit is because he is a FIRM believer in vaccines. He has practiced long enough to have firsthand knowledge of the damage and harm vaccine-preventable illnesses can cause. He has a schedule and he wants you to stick to it. If that's a problem for you you can find another pediatrician - and you certainly don't have to be nasty about it. If you want to gamble with your child's health - do it in another office. My newborn was denied continued care because I was interested in discussing a slower vaccination schedule due to a family history of reactions. This doctor took a one-size-fits-all approach to my child's care and was not open to further discussion. He wasn't rude and did have good bedside manner, but was very closed minded on the subject. I was told by the MA, "vaccinate how we tell you or find a new doctor." In my gut this felt wrong, so I did just that and found a new doctor. I am so thankful I did not allow myself to be coerced because I found a more open minded pediatrician who does not discriminate against us and allows me to be involved in the medical decisions of my own child. I am a mother (and a medical professional btw) only trying to do what I feel is best for my child. I understand Dr. Coit is doing the same for his patients and trying to protect them. However, even though severe vaccine reactions are uncommon, they are possible and therefore vaccines, as with any medical intervention, come with a risk. Because of this we should have the right to make the decision for ourselves. read more

We have received nothing short of exceptional medical care and attention, not only from Dr. Coit but his staff as well. I have him and his nurse on my speed dial and can call them at anytime. Both of my daughters have special medical considerations and for that reason I have him and his nurse on my speed dial and can call them at anytime. Dr. Coit approaches medicine from a common sense first outlook, he'll give it to you straight and tell you what is going on. If you're looking for a doctor who will tell you what you want to hear, coddle you and hold your hand then you should find another doctor. HOWEVER, if you're looking for a seasoned professional who would bend over backwards (not easy at his age) to give your child the best possible medical care then you need look no further than Dr. Alan S. My only regret is that I waited so long to switch to Dr. Coit! Great doctor and wonderful staff. When I visited there was minimal wait time, everyone was extremely polite, and very professional. Sick appointments were whisked right into rooms so they did not wait with the well child appointments. I do a delayed (Dr. Sears style) vax schedule and, although I could tell they did not necessarily approve, I got good, fact based information and my wished were respected. My daughter is 1 year old and Dr. Coit has a great bedside manner with her. He took plenty of time to talk to me and I did not feel rushed at all. My daughter has luckily always been very healthy so I cannot comment on how he handles more complex cases. I was able to hold my daughter while she got her shots, which I was not allowed to do at my previous doctor's office. I was surprised how much less she cried as a result. I was given a followup appointment while I was still in the room with my child so when we were done we could head straight for the door.
