We've worked with Alan on a fairly large remodelling project in our house, where we redid the entire upper floor, added roof windows to the bedrooms and built a new dormer for a bathroom with steam shower.
Alan did a great job as our architect. He took a lot of time to discuss with us what we wanted to do, and then turned this into a very clever design, which he discussed with us in detail and did a few smaller revisions based on our feedback. His plans included lots of small things we wouldn't have though of ourselves.
For example, we wanted to have roof windows and dressers built into the kneewall in our attic bathroom. But it was Alan's idea to place these dressers directly underneath the windows, add a window sill on top of them with an electric outlet, lower the roof window as much as possible so that we could step into the opening and have a 180 degree view, etc. He thought of extra light switches next to the bed, sconces, and so many other details.
For the bathroom and steam shower, he came up with a very clever design that maximizes space and makes the bathroom - even though not very large - feel very spacious. For example, the steam shower is separated from the rest of the bathroom with a large glass door and glas panels, through which the daylight of the windows in the steam room shines right into the rest of the bathroom. Above the sink, he added a skylight, so that the sink has natural light from above during daytime. These details make such a difference, and we never would have thought of them without Alan.
Alan also took the plans through the permitting process and was always available for questions during the construction process. We asked him to come on site a few times to meet with our contractor and tile guy, and he was always there for us and helped out where we needed him. read more
