Have been going for nearly 20 years. Over past few years he has transitioned to a 'concierge' service. I wanted to make annual check up but had to wait four months to schedule it. When I arrived at 11:50am for my noon appointment, I waited until 12:30pm and saw three other patients come in after me and get seen before me. When I asked the reception what was up with the "line cutters" she said they had paid for the 'concierge' service. I couldn't continue to wait and had to return to work. So I guess 'concierge' means insurance isn't enough, either you pay up to get the service you had come to expect for 20 years or you are shit out of luck. What a scam. Now I have to find a new doctor. What a hassle! read more

I made a call to Dr. Alan Kadet's office to make an appointment as a new patient. I was told he does take my insurance, but that he offers a "concierge service" which costs $3,000 a year and is out of pocket. What the service gives you is an opportunity to see Dr. Kadet when you want. Opting out of the service will get you one annual check up with Dr. Kadet, and all follow ups or appointment with a nurse practitioner. I don't write Yelp reviews but this one is worth the warning. read more

I went to Dr. Kadet a few times and decided he wasn't what I was looking for for in a GP- unless I wanted Midas Muffler / car wash attention. Not to mention in the 5 minutes he devoted to me- he managed to get in a disturbing warning that if I didn't change my diet I would be dead in 5 years. Really? I am not obese, do not smoke or drink and don't eat junk. I had gone for a yearly check-up with no outstanding issues or complaints. He then referred me to a heart specialist that read the NY Post as I was on the treadmill. There was no further treatment after that. I had heard that he asks for various test with specialists that are unnecessary-perhaps he gets kick backs? Who knows but his manner is so brusque and something about it all seemed like some kind of racket was happening. No thanks. read more

All you need to do is follow the timeline to learn about this practice, which went from good, though too busy, to mediocre, to a money grab of the wealthy along Central Park West that disenfranchised probably hundreds of not-as-wealthy patients. Much of what others describe was my experience, too -- rushed visits, not enough detail, quick referrals to other doctors instead of discussing the issues, a lot of friendly chit-chat. But my first real clue that perhaps a change might be in order didn't arrive until Kadet, pitching his concierge service, complained to me that Obamacare was killing him and he wasn't making enough money -- as if I cared to hear that from a guy who's probably making at least five times as much as I do, if not much more than that, and who also should have known me well enough after many years of conversation that I likely was an Obamacare supporter, and also that I cared more about my physical health than his financial health. Never mind that I was paying him out of my pocket for years after my insurance changed to the very common BCBS and he wouldn't take it. So he went to become Physician For The Rich, it's now a near-empty office, and if you come in eye contact with the doctor, he nods at you, seemingly half-apologetic and half-embarrassed because he knows that you know he dropped you like a hot potato, no longer worthy of his services, with a staff member (Stephen) who is more than willing to turn a discussion into an argument and will hang up on you. The best thing that happened then, after 15 years, was when Kadet relayed to me via Stephen that I "should look for a new physician." It's quite enlightening when you realize that the doctor you've trusted to care about you actually doesn't care about you at all, only about how much money he's making, and you recall the time many years earlier, sitting across his desk in his office, when he said, "Patients come and go. I don't worry about that." So I took him up on his suggestion, and when I called to cancel my last appointment, the receptionist said, "Thanks for calling," and hung up on me, the second one to do that in a matter of days, obviously unsurprised and perhaps relieved to be done with another one of us commoners. I've received more care and attention to detail and learned more about my health in the past three months with a new doctor than I did in the previous 10 years. Little did I know what I was missing. I hope that those who ponied up the big bucks fare better. read more

In the years I saw Kadet, his waiting room was stacked and restacked, and I watched as he spent 2-3 minutes with each patient. Faster than a speeding train, he was a referral machine--a non-doctor doctor. With me it was: Time to see the Derm, Time to see the Gastro. I got his M.O. fast; Patient walks in, ask what is wrong, interrupt patient as s/he tries to tell you because you don't have time for sick people, make a personal (but universal) joke that shows you remember her/him fondly ,crack your "I remember you fondly" smile, refer, and get her/him out. Yes, you can get an appointment that day because in the time it takes open a door, he will be closing his on you. Yes, he will give you an antibiotic over the phone just because you think you need one. Heh, heh. He's your buddy. The worst part is that on two occasions when I was really ill (no fever, nauseous, feeling awful), he did not even let me in his office. He looked at me from across a room and told my brother-in-law to take me to the E.R. Moreover, I've had numerous Lab tests sent to him, and he never called, nor did a staff member, to give results or request I come in for them--even when the tests showed unacceptable markers denoting illness. Now, of course, he has upgraded his practice so he can make his banal jokey jokes to the well-heeled. I would say his P.A.for the poor may be better than he is, but, I am quite sure he has trained her in his style or he wouldn't have hired her. (A good P.A. is worth a million bucks. They are great). Not a fan ! The good: He takes walk-in. He is near my office. The bad: Every time you come in you wait a minimum of 30 min. The max time I've ever spoken to him was 3 minutes but on average im out of the door before I get the chance to speak. It's actually impressive how fast I am ushered out. His admin has attitude, she too gives you about a minute before she moves on. Their phones turn off at 1:30 pm, so make sure you are sick in the mornings. Anything after lunch and you can kiss your chances goodbye. The last time I saw him, and the last time I will ever see him, I waited 35 minutes and when I got to finally see him he took me into his office, checked my ears with the tool without putting a cover on it, made me stick out my tongue and gave me a prescription. Total time spent: under a minute, literally. I didnt even make it into the patients room. This was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. I then paid $40 co-pay only to find out I took 3 days of antibiotics prescribed incorrectly. I spoke with a family doctor and he accurately prescribed me medication over the phone because, surprise surprise, he spoke to me for more than 5 minutes and was able to find out what was wrong. At the end of the day, Dr. Kadet treats you like the $40/min patient you are. Doesnt give you the time of day and in doing so he ends up making mistakes. such a shame. read more

I kept being told he's a good doctor so in spite of his abrupt manner and ridiculously quick visits I kept going. Now he is changing his practice to a Personal Care system. For only about 6.65 a day! you finally get some attention. If you can't afford to fork over $2500 you can still stay with the practice but you will only get to see a PA in most cases. Unbelievable!!!! As if medicine in this country is not already unaffordable! Now I need to find a new doctor. Of course when I asked if they could recommend someone as I preferred to see a doctor not a pA and could not afford his new crazy fees I was told they were sorry but he doesn't have any recommendations. My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Kadet's for 20+ years. With his recent move to a concierge service, we've decided to look elsewhere. Fortunately for us, our health has always been excellent and we have had little need for medical care over the years, so it makes very little sense for us to pay several thousand dollars a year on top of insurance premiums to get his attention. Here are the pro's and cons for those of you trying to make a similar decision: PROS: 1) Good doctor, I would describe him as competent. 2) Cares about his patients. 3) Office staff is outstanding. CONS: 1) Refuses to do any procedure involving bodily fluids or blood. Expect to have to get a referral if you even need something lanced. I would have to say he's a bit squeamish, which is odd. 2) Doesn't review your file before your visits. You will have to do extra work to keep track of your own medical condition and tell him why you are taking medication, or specifically ask about your progress if you have issues. Once you ask or remind him, you will get good answers, however. Truthfully, I would have to describe him as a bit lazy in this area. 3) Referrals are mixed. I have had really good and really bad referrals from Dr. Kadet, so double check anyone he refers you too. And with Dr. Kadet, you get a LOT of referrals, because he refuses to do so many procedures in office. So that's it. I will say having been with Kadet for 20 years and now having having experienced other doctors, Dr. Kadet is not in the front of the pack. read more

I called day of and they said he's available for walk ins before noon. I went in, filled out paper work and was in his office probably within 5-10 mins on my first visit as a new patient. That's pretty good. Dr. Kadet is a nice guy. He likes to talk, but not necessarily about you or your issues. I told him I was a software engineer and he went off on a tirade about installing an Epson printer for his wife. It was amusing. I wouldn't expect him to be able to work with you on any tough questions. He'd probably just talk you to death, but Dr's don't have all the answers anyway, so they all find their own way to get around the questions IMO. Long story short, I was in and out of there pretty quickly and got a prescription for anitbiotics and a chest xray. He asked me to email him after getting the xray which I did and he responded immediately, "cxr normal". Office is nice and clean. I spoke with 2 of his staff members, Jen and ___ (Janet, Janice, ?) and they both have attitude problems. It doesn't bother me too much as long as I don't have to wait when I go in for an appointment. Although, Jen rushed me out of there and I ended up forgetting to get my prescription. She called 10 mins after I left to say I left it and I had them call it directly into the pharmacy, which she should've offered to do in the first place. read more

I was a patient of Dr Kadet for about 9 years and left his care when I relocated. I am in good health so I didn't need a lot of his attention, but when I did, I got it. But mostly I appreciated that I didn't get a lot of small talk - he got down to business and sent me to other specialists when he needed to. I always got a call from him personally to report test results - they were often messages left very early in the AM, a sign of his willingness to give personal attention to his patients. I once had severe dizziness - vomitting and loss of balance and I really needed to see him. He immediately took me as a walk-in patient then sent me to another specialist who could help me more than he could. I continued to see him after he started his concierge service which I decided not to enroll in because I was in basically good health and did not anticipate any urgent need to see him ASAP. So I actually saw his nurse practitioner about a lump I found on my breast. We both thought it was "suspicious" and Dr Kadet was right there to advise on next steps. He personally called me into his office and gave me the results of the biopsy he ordered (which turned out to be breast cancer). He sent me to three different surgeons and made sure I was comfortable with them and gave me the reassurance I needed to face down the cancer. And remember, I was not a concierge patient. I always felt cared for and was sorry he had to move to concierge service in order to continue to give his patients the level of care they had come to expect. I wish I had a doctor like him in my new neighborhood! read more

I've been with Dr. Kadet for 20 years, and he's a class act and a fantastic doctor. he really knows his stuff, and no matter my med issues, he knew what to do and provided great health care. I completely understand why he's going to a concierge system - he wants to practice medicine, and the current healthy care system isn't cutting it. I'm a big fan, and while it's a shame that our insurance cannot cover his capability 100%, I do believe that if you are looking for superior healthcare, Dr. Kadet does provide it. read more

Don't bother...Office is only open until 2pm which is very un-accommodating to working people. Also, impossible to get an appointment. A co-worker of mine called a few days ago (in April) and was told nothing was available until September and not only has she have been a patient for years but was in need of medical attention! The staff made no attempt to accommodate her. The staff is rude and dismissive...many times have been billed incorrectly and have been argued with when calling to inquire about the bill. Always have to wait when i arrive for an appointment even when i call before to confirm that they are running on time. Go elsewhere. read more

Absolutely the best doctor I've been to in a long time. Tells you the deal straight. Doesn't cause you unnecessary panic. Calls when he says he will and doesn't make you wait for results. The only negative is that the PA in his office who draws blood could be just a teeny tiny bit more gentle. Last time I had blood drawn I had a bruise that didn't go away for a week. And she TB tested me at the same time! Ow! But as far as doctors go I don't think they come any better than Dr. Kadet. read more

I was long overdue for a routine physical. A friend recommended Dr Kadet so last week I scheduled a checkup with him. I'm glad I did. Dr Kadet is a very diligent doctor. Before the examination he took the time to interview me about my health history and any other concerns I might have. He is very friendly and he put me at ease during the examination. He also called me a few days later with the results of my blood/urine tests. Dr Kadet is a great doctor and a nice guy. His staff is also friendly. I recommend him. read more

I have been a patient for 8 years. I was hit by a car and told by EMS to follow up with my primary care physician. I tried to make an appointment but it was after 2pm, so the following morning i walked in. The receptionist told me that i have to come back at the end of day because i can only see the nurse practitioner. Then after asking me a few more questions i was told i had to wait until the first opening next week!? I cannot believe this. Dr Kadet just walked out to see the only other patient in the waiting room. It was 7am in the morning and no one else was there. I dont understand what happened to change the scheduling availability immediately but i suspect it has to do with insurance or something of that nature? Or maybe reviewing accident victims is no longer profitable for Dr kadet? Moments like this really show how terrible this place has become. I have been a patient of Dr. Kadet for many years but after mutliple issues over time, I am parting company. The trend has been downhill for a long time, but even in the beginning there was a sense that you were being put through a patient mill, and the most amount of time you would ever get with him would be maximum 10 minutes. Initially I did not mind this, because I am a fairly healthy person and don't need a lot. However, there was always a sense that I was being rushed and there was not a lot of listening or attention to detail. I think the success of his practice comes from the fact that he is a good looking guy with a certain amount of charm seeing his patients at light speed in an attractive office on CPW. But if you strip away the veneer, there is not a whole lot of there there. Now with this whole concierge thing, I never see him, only the PA. I don't really mind, as a I mentioned my needs are few, but recently I have had a change of jobs that has rendered me without insurance for the moment. I inquired about the fee for seeing the PA for some prescription refills, and 5 minutes with her will cost me $200.00 out of pocket. That's $40.00 per minute, she must be very talented. (NB: the last time I saw her she was wearing a brand spanking new pair of Tod's orange loafers, only $425 at Nordstroms). Honestly it's a bit sad when you have had a doctor for over 10 years (easily) and you see this downhill trend. Not about patient care, more about the money factory. One final note, you can't even call and leave a message on the answering machine after 2 pm. Forget patient portals or email, this is strictly out of the question. I have finally realized I can do much, much better, and will be moving on to a far more caring and every bit as competent (or more) physician. read more

I've been a patient for at least a decade, and I used to love this office. I still like Dr. Kadet himself, and used to go out of my way to see him. However he has changed his practice quite a bit, in ways that diminish what made him a helpful doctor. For one, his receptionist is extremely curt and unfriendly. Also, they have made it so that you have to go to the office every 4 months if you want a refill. That's simply not feasible time/money-wise if you have an ongoing need. Finally, they also no longer take walk-ins, which was a huge draw. It was TREMENDOUSLY helpful if you were ill to be able to go THAT day, rather than wait a couple of weeks. I've been seeing Dr. Kadet for nearly 10 years now. Of all other doctors I've visited over the years, Dr. Kadet is the most down to earth straight shooter. He tells it to you straight without causing you panic. Some people complain that he's just a pill pushing assembly line doctor, but I couldn't disagree more. Because he takes on all-comers even at a moments notice, he is always busy and is a very diligent hard working doctor. He calls me with lab results at like 5 am !! Because I'm a long time patient, he takes his time and always talks to me. If you're looking for a long-term doctor, I highly recommend Dr. Kadet. Dr. Kadet is my favorite Dr. and I am someone who is always getting sick- so that's a title to aspire to! He's quick and efficient in his office, it's drop in hours not appointments so if you feel bad you don't have to wait for an appointment 2 days out to see him- and even with a completely full waiting room I have only waited, max, 45 minutes. That is great. With all the speed you still don't feel rushed, he finds out what's wrong, tests, and if needed sets you up with a prescription. Also great is that if you need a specialist he will find one that will take you that day and set the appointment for you. read more

I've been a patient with Dr. Kadet for over 15 years. Despite what some reviewers said about how quickly he moved people through his office, I always felt great about my care and felt that he really knew me. About a year ago, he switched his practice to the type that requires you to pay a couple thousand dollars upfront or else you can only see the PA. I was really upset when it first happened, but I like the PA so I've been okay with it--until I had a dire situation. The PA was booked, so I was told I should go to urgent care (now THAT is a problem to me after being a 15-year patient). I even offered to pay full price (not use my insurance) if Dr. Kadet would see me this one time, to which I was told he would not see me because I hadn't paid for the whole year. If the personal care system is because insurance isn't reimbursing enough, what is the problem with seeing a long-term patient one time if you pay out of pocket? To me, this response was all business, not care, and that's concerning. A quick note about the woman who takes blood. As said below, she is not very competent. It hurts A LOT, which isn't the case with other who have drawn my blood, and I always have a bruise afterwards. If you're looking for a new doctor, this is probably not the place to be. The care is good if they have the time for you, or if you're wealthy enough to pay thousands of dollars. read more

I like Dr. Kadet as a doctor and he seems like a nice guy but he's changing his practice to a "membership only" one in which you pay ("only") $3,000 a year to call him your doctor. Apparently this is a "patient focused" decision on their part, which is apparently how we're saying money-focused now. Woof. read more

Dr. Kadet is a mediocre doctor. He spends too little time with patients and often makes mistakes. I have seen him for over 2 years. The average time is 3 minutes. He always complains about the state of healthcare, which is unprofessional. Just because he does not like how he is paid does not give him a reason to provide incompetent service. I agree with the statements below about his assistant who takes blood. Glad to hear I am not the only one who has walked out covered in bandages. Stay clear of her. Now he wants us to pay $2500 a year for this privilege. Glad to have had the push to find a new doctor. There are wonderful ones in the City of New York. The good, the bad, and the ugly: The good: He takes walk-ins. The bad: His location is the upper west side, which is very far from where I work/live. The ugly: Wait period is 30+min and he spends about 3-5min with you, rushing to get to the next patient. His working hours are 7am-1:30pm, so if you are sick in the afternoon, you'd better have a back-up plan or just wait till the next day. His staff rushes you through your visit and has a condescending attitude, almost as if they were doing you a favor by talking to you. They also spend about 2min with you, making you feel rushed and insignificant. The doctor never took my vitals (blood pressure, weight, listen to your heart/chest) except once in over 5years, so his "evaluations" are usually in his office, opposed to an exam room. My experience: I have been seeing Dr. Kadet over 5yrs as he was recommended by another doctor that went to school with him. I kept thinking, since he was recommended, he must be good. I had a follow up appointment in Sept of 2014 to discuss an abnormal blood test. He took me into his office where he proceeded to ask me to email him a list of my medications. Why on earth should I email him when he was sitting right in front of me? Then he told me to come back to his office in the morning for another blood test, while fasting. I was OK with this, until I realized going back to his office tomorrow morning was inconvenient, so I asked for a prescription so I could get my blood drawn at any lab. He loudly said, "Absolutely not!!" Whaat! I never had a Doctor refuse to give me a prescription that "they" recommended. He didn't even have enough time to take my vitals! He kept saying no and ushered me out of his office. He took a total of 3min with me and had already started on the next patient with their folder in hand almost sprinting to his next appointment. I was stunned and thankfully my boyfriend was with me; he witnessed Dr. Kadet's hostility and refusal to write a blood test prescription. My boyfriend chimed in and asked why he wouldn't write a prescription and he (Dr. Kadet) kept refusing! We both left the office thinking, Why wouldn't he write a prescription? It's because he wouldn't get billed for it if I had my blood drawn elsewhere! My recommendation: Do NOT see this doctor! He does not care about your well being and is more interested in billing you and others as fast as he can. You will risk your own health if you go to Dr. Kadet. I have since found another primary care physician that spent over 30 minutes addressing my abnormal blood test, gave me a through exam (in an exam room which involved listening to my heart and even an EKG), wrote out a blood test prescription so I could go at my convenience, and asked me more questions than Dr Kadet did in 5years. read more

I was Dr. Kadet's patient for over 40 years and always thought he was fine, even great, although he rarely spent much time with me, even during annual checkups. But now he's switched to a $3000/year concierge practice, I can no longer get an appointment with him, only with his nurse practitioner, which I find Infuriating. Be aware of two things: 1. Dr. Kadet is super-quick, and you don't have a chance to really chat with him. His staff is also this way and his nurse busied me when she took my blood. 2. The real reason why I am giving his place a 1 star is because I have the best insurance available and was told Dr. Kadet does not participate in my plan but they take, "Multiplan" that I have in my insurance so that should take care of the bill. It was bad communication on their part, and my stupidity for not doing homework, but Multiplan just serves as a "discount." I was still stuck paying a $200 office visit. Wow. What a pleasant and refreshing experience with Dr. Kadet! I came down with a pretty serious case of Poison Ivy exposure and originally went to see a doctor recommended by a friend on the UES. I had a sketchy appointment where I was quickly diagnosed told to use some over the counter cortisone cream and take 9 white pills in a baggy that were handed to me. Being a former paramedic I went home and looked up the pills on a drug identifier to learn they were prednisone. I was told by this doctor to take three a day for three days. Well after I finished that treatment, a week went by, and the rash was still itching, swollen and just play mean/nasty looking I decided it was time to seek a second opinion. That's when I found Dr. Kadet, my lifesaver! Dr. Kadet saw me the next day after calling to leave a voicemail and make an appointment. Yes, you might think it's a bit weird that the phones are only 'active' for an hour a day, but they also take walk-ins and have a small staff so it makes sense. Plus, he mentioned my voicemail in our visit, which means he clearly listens to them. I found it really refreshing (and impressive) that he starts your visit in his office rather than in one of those cold and harsh exam rooms. Then, when/if necessary he'll move you to an exam room to properly check things out. Dr. Kadet quickly realized my initial course of treatment was way off base and prescribed me a stronger regimen of prednisone and a prescription strength topical cream. I thought it was so nice that he gave me enough samples of the cream that I ended up not needing to get the prescription filled-- thanks for saving me that $10-$20! My exposure healed up within a week (like it should have the first time) and Dr. Kadet assured me that if it wasn't better in a week he'd see me right away to solve the issue. Finding a new PCP can be scary, daunting and exhausting. In this case, I'm glad I found Dr. Kadet on the second try and don't plan on seeing anyone else the rest of my time here in NYC. read more

Dr. Alan Kadet, is the quintessential Doctor you imagine but can not believe in this day in age really exists. As a difficult, stubborn patient who hates most all doctors, I have put him through the ringer with my general distrust and bad attitude, and he has turned my frown upside down. I am thrilled I have him as my doctor and since I live part time here and in Fort Lauderdale I have flown to him when I have been sick, because I TRUST him with my health, and well being. I never have had so much positive results with a doctor who is bright, quick, and doesn't make you wait for hours in his waiting room. He deserves and has earned your business and only go if you need a real doctor who will actually figure out how to make you better. And by the way the waiting room is cozy with lots of great magazines. An extra plus is his staff has great business acumen and a refined command of manners and the English language, (rare in New York). read more

Update: Dr. Kadet now charges money as a concierge. He also still takes your insurance on top of your concierge annual fee (I can't remember what it is - either $1200 or $2000 annually). If you don't pay the money, he will not see you - he gives you someone else (a PA I believe). It's not only that (I am fine with PAs). It's that his staff basically take your calls and questions last. They literally put non-concierge clients on hold longer and take longer to do things. I have been going to Dr Kadet for over 5 years and he is by far the best doctor I have ever gone too. My cousin referred me to him originally and I now refer him to everyone as well. Every person that I have referred to him have been so happy that I did. He is quick, but very thorough at the same time. He also has a great walk-in hrs policy because I am sure like me you can't really predict far in advance when you will get sick. He actually calls you personally with test results when he gets them in case you have any questions. Also, his main office manager Jennifer is so great to go over things with and help you feel comfortable with everything before you leave the office. read more

Dr. Kadet is great at his work. I've been going to him for about 10 years. Some major points: You can see him immediately! This is such a rare/cherished thing. He's serious about your health. He's always pleasant, and even though many visits can be brief, I trust that I will walk out with the correct diagnosis or a referral for someone who can assist me more. He's caring and no nonsense--on one occasion he showed dissatisfaction for the length of time it took me to seek help. It could have been a serious issue and his "upset" showed that he cared. He sent me over to be seen by a specialist immediately, the same day. I've been to so many doctors over the years for varying medical problems, and his name will always be at the top of my list as one of the best. read more

Don't expect to get the personal attention. I had my chart mixed up with my wife's record. They are very dis-organized for sure. We were twice billed with no-shows invoices although appoints were rescheduled to different dates well in advance. They never take responsibility of their mistakes but keep trying to blame on us. They should be more concerned more about your health than collecting $50 no-show fees anyway but that is not the way things are handled here. read more

Dr. Kadet is really amazing! He is a total mensch, and knows his stuff! I walked in one day after a week in bed, covered in oozing boils and with a fever, and he immediately sent me to a dermatologist nearby, getting me an appointment immediately. He wouldn't even charge me! (Although the dermatologist certainly did!) And he also said, "I know what I'd do to treat that: I'd carpet bomb it!" meaning lots of strong antibiotics, which is exactly what the dermatologist he recommended prescribed. What I had was a staff infection, and it could have killed me if Dr. Kadet hadn't been so wonderful, and booked to see me so soon after my call too! What a great doctor, and a total mensch!
