Last September I rented a car at Palma de Mallorca and I chose Alamo company, although there were cheaper companies. I thought that it will provide a high quality without any unexpected problems. Unfortunately, since 2 months, I am struggling with a parking ticket which was issued to the company (caused by their own fault). Starting from the beginning, during car rental process the staff did not give me any sheet of paper, with the contract information, to display at the cars windshield nor informed me about the need to display such information. The same day I legally parked the car on the street on a normal parking spot. The next day I found two fines, for 60 Euro each, left on the car for parking on a public road of a vehicle being object of a rental without a driver without displaying information about the contract. When returning the car I asked Alamo staff about the fines. The attendant assured me that this is an old law and the police officer who filed the fine should not have written it. Then said that I should not worry about it and took the fines. Over two months later to my surprise 25 Euros were taken from my bank account by an unknown place from Madrid (another 25 Euros were locked but finally not charged). I submitted a complaint to the bank as I did not receive any information related to this charge. About 1 week later two priority letters came from Alamo with information about the charge of 2 x 25 Euros as an administrative fee for supplying my data to the police for a mentioned parking ticket. My husband called the department of fines of the Mallorca police and they confirmed that these fines are supposed to sanction the rental companies and I should not expect any fines from them nor pay them if they do arrive. I did not receive any fines from Spain up to this day.
My husband also called Allamo at the Mallorca airport. The operator gathered the above information and forwarded it to "another department" and promised someone would come back to my husband's mobile number. Moreover, I sent an e-mail (24 DEC 2018) to Alamo (e-mail address provided in mentioned priority letters), two e-mail reminders and I also submitted a ticket on their page. I got an automated reply about how they care about my feedback but we did not get any answer to this day. Our appeal, using the credit-card charge-back mechanism, was dropped because Alamo replied (30 JAN 2019) to the bank that I am responsible for all fines (cited: "unless caused by our own fault") not specifying the actual infraction. read more
