I work nearby, and while I usually shop near my home in Oakland, I thought I'd try a new store and support local Alameda businesses. I got a 510 battery which I really liked a lot but lost a week later. So I stopped back in last week to buy a new 510 battery. Just like the first time, he said he was going to give me a special deal, and pay $25 instead of $30. Unfortunately, that battery's threads were faulty so I took it back five minutes later and exchanged it. But again, unfortunately, that battery quit after using it for a few days. I took it back in yesterday to exchange it. Obviously, this brand has some issues, but the owner again told me he was going to give me a great deal and sell me another 510 battery instead of replacing the one that didn't work. We went back-and-forth a little bit, and I left frustrated and with a useless battery. I'll go back to shopping in Oakland at my regular smoke shop since the person running this store cannont be trusted.

Since then, I've tried their crab fried rice, garlic noodles and shrimp and lumpia - both meat and Impossible. The crab fried rice is amazing and full of juicy crab meat. They also cater and were super flexible with our early pickup time. Our guests enjoyed the food and a couple asked about their catering too. They are open LATE (see hours). They aren't cheap, and they have really good alcohol. While most liquor stores have a general, cliche selection of boring beer (Bud, Coors, Miller, Corona)--these guys are heavy handed with local craft. Faction Brewery in Alameda (for example) makes a really good brew. My two favorites are The Penske File, and the Faction Pale Ale. Broadway has them BOTH. Faction is not impossible to find; it is rare. Off the top of my head, others include: (Faction, Almanac, Anchor, 21st, Drakes, and Fort Point. Also a lot from So Cal. (Stone, Beaver, Ballast Point). Im sure more. That's just beer! I haven't made my way to wine or spirits... But picture the best of everything local that bottles and they may have it. In addition to alcohol, they also sell bitters, as well as syrups. Also sells lots of tobacco and a lot of other nicotine products. But come on, that shit sucks and is horrible for you!

The draft selection alone was quite good, but with all of the cans to choose from too you could easily find yourself partaking of a few hours. Beyond that, Good hop has a really laid back vibe and felt like it was full of mostly locals. The bartender/cashier was a one-person show but took care of everyone's needs very quickly. Will definitely go again next time I'm in Uptown!
