alameda de hercules literally translates to "hercules mall." this area was actually built in 1574, yep over 400 years ago, as a public garden, and was the oldest public garden in all of spain, and the european continent for that matter. it has undergone much reconstruction, the most recent in 2008, and today, it stands as a public promenade for everyone to enjoy.
this venue does resemble a long, herculean-length mall, with two tall, statued arches at one end. but aside from that, there are only a few benches and tables scattered throughout, and a fountain in the middle. locals and tourists alike like to walk the length of this mall to get from point a to point b, but there wasn't much going on when we came, possibly b/c it was raining on the day we visited. it is very close to the historic macarena neighborhood as well as many popular restaurants and tapas bars. read more
