I have been taking my car to these guys for over 10 years. Probably up to 5 cars now. I always feel they have given good service and advice. Recently they even allowed me to bring in my own struts for replacement on my Subaru Outback XT. Unfortunately I found out the other shop I went to who replaced the struts did a lousy job. I would recommend them. It's hard to know who is being honest or not these days however I always have had a good experience and feel they are being honest with me regarding the issues with my cars. I don't get a hard sell but good information, like this can wait but you should consider it soon. read more

Instead, there have been many times that I thought I had a big and expensive problem only to be told that it was a minor and inexpensive fix. I could wright a novel about the love hate relationship with my 2002 Saturn Vue but I know we all do not have time read it. Anyway I use to live in Alameda always took my cars here, then I moved. I thought I would find something near Fremont needless to say I wasted my time and money at other places. As a woman who knows nothing about cars I have never been taken advantage of here. I am a loyal customer and will be happy to drive over 30 miles to have my repairs done. Its even worth my time and gas money to get a simple oil change here. When I accidentally put too much oil in my Honda Fit (don't ask) and there were plumes of smoke coming out of my tailpipe I called and went immediately to Alameda Auto Lab. I had taken my old Saturn there years ago and had good service. Everyone was wonderful and they fixed the problem effectively and efficiently. What a great auto repair shop. DOING ANY REPAIRS OR MODIFICATIONS TO YOUR CAR WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE IS AGAINST THE LAW. Not only did they throw away my custom license plate frame, my car frame is now advertising for these crooks. My frame now says "alameda auto labs". They changed my license plate frame and put their own on without my knowledge which is illegal. I will be reporting this to BBB. I hope you guys go out out of business. read more

basically this shop tried to rob me blind. took my car in for a brake job, comes back with a ludicrous estimate that includes replacing all 4 rotors plus my emergency brake. I called around to other shops and all of them quoted me a drastically cheaper price, including the acura dealer who laughed that my emergency brake needed changing and said i'm getting ripped off....the DEALER. took it to another shop to get the work done, and there was 50% brakes left on my fronts... read more

I've taken my vehicle to Alameda Auto Lab twice. The first time (about a year ago) I had a busted brake line or two on my Durango, and while the work they did was sound, I didn't get my vehicle back for just shy of two weeks. Cost was several hundred, but the gas tank had to be removed to access the rear brake line, so I suppose that's not to bad. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. After hearing from another mechanic at a different shop I trust that my ball joints were in bad shape and had to be replaced, I specifically told Luis from Alameda Auto Lab to look at said ball joints. A few days later, he calls me and tells me the inner and outer tie rods, and all the shocks have to be replaced. I asked, "what about the ball joints?" He said they were fine. Once again the repair process took just shy of two weeks, which is quite an inconvenience. Cost was $1300.00, which seems steep. OK, all is right now, correct? So I take my car to a different shop to get it aligned, and they tell me the ball joints ARE shot! I even got to look at the ball joints after the work was done and not only was there severe play, the housing and control arms were cracked! The angered me, since I specifically told Alameda Auto Lab to look at the them. The ball joints were obviously in bad shape and their state was dangerous at the very least. Like all shops, your experience with Alameda Auto Lab may vary, but I will never take my vehicle there again. Sketchy work and a long wait to get your car back. read more

Luis and Robert are absolutely the BEST at what they do! They treat people the way they would like to be treated themselves. They are honest people, and do good work. They also stand behind their work. They have been taking care of our cars for years, and always do a good job. I have recommended many people to them, and they have all appreciated the referral, as they also discovered that Alameda Auto Lab is a great place to get their cars worked on. I went to AAL after reading the reviews on Yelp. After a horrible experience with Oil Changers and their staff of delinquents in Oakland, I decided to try AAL out. Robert was very professional and friendly. Apparently customer service isn't dead afterall. I went in for an oil change but forgot to print out the coupon. Robert gave me the coupon rate anyway. I thought this was a very kind gesture and definitely unexpected. The prices here are very competitive as well. The work itself was excellent. They changed my oil in a very competent manner and even checked the air pressure in my full size spare! Something Oil Changers never did. Finally, upon leaving, I forgot a paper and Robert walked it out to me. I was very pleased with my experience and would recommend this place for your auto maintenance work. read more

My impression going once so far was that these people are automotive proffessionals and not half hearted mechanics like at others shops I've seen in the past. Tried them. Spent $1200!!! Shoddy work. Took my car back and gave them a chance to fix it. They let my car sit in the same place I dropped it off and then said they fixed it (check your mileage when you drop it off; I'm convinced they did NOTHING on my car). On the way home, same problem erupted. Called from the car. HATED THEIR RESPONSE -- the guy told me it was impossible. Never, ever take your car here!! They will smile and be courteous, but they cannot be trusted. If you're experimenting or looking for a new garage -- STOP-- DON'T GO HERE - Go up the street, try SK Auto 1 block up on Pacific, try ANYWHERE BUT HERE. I wish I could give them less than 1 star, maybe even several negative stars...about $1200 worth of negative stars. read more

these guys are real friendly and seem like they know what they are doing. and i was a customer for a long time and kept giving them second chances but, after numerous return and redos (at my expense) our relationship is completely over and they will never work on another car of mine. every single jopb they ever di was lacking and i would have to bring it back. the last straw was when they replaced the engine for one price and then got me to put up another thousand to put on all new 'other' part. less than 1k miles later i had to come back wiht check engine lite. they charged another $150. for the distributor cap replace and then just after the car koncked out in the middle of an intersection. on the sceen inspection finds the coil wire not cvonnected,. thats when i was done. tell roberto and luis that they are ameturs that do not back their work. try lees auto in oakland lot better prices and work. read more

I got very good service. Had my tranny replaced. After I got my car back the factory radio was locked out. When I took my car back in for the tranny adjustment he spent a couple hours repairing my radio at no charge. read more

BEWARE!!!! If theres negetive 10 stars rating, i would give it to this place for being the most useless shop ive ever been to. let me start bringin my car to the shop, it took me 30 mins just to talk to a person and explain whats wrong with my car and the guy in-charge didn't even listen at all, all he wanted is to get my car in the shop and tell me good things like ill fix everything in 1 day, yea next thing i know, he wanted me to come back in a week. thats not all, i came back and nothing was done to my car... wtf? they said the tranny and engine is messed up and i had to buy a new one in order to get the engine light turn off. so i didnt believe it and brought my car to another dealer shop and found out that there was no problem anywhere except there was a short circuit somewhere. thats it! not engine, not tranny, ONLY wirings! they have no idea what theyre doing over there at all!!!! read more

No thanks. Took my car in for an oil change this morning because it's walking distance to my house and some decent coffee shops where I could wait. I wasn't in any particular hurry, but I told them to call me when it was done. About three hours later, I called them to see what the hold up was, and they said, "It will be done in about half an hour." Arrived fifteen minutes later to discover that not only had it been done for awhile, but they'd put in a $35 air filter without even mentioning this on the phone, and without my consent. There were some lame excuses about how one guy thought the other guy called me and vice versa, but clearly the ethical thing to do at that point would have been to take it off the bill. No one offered. They also claimed that the air filter had never been changed. The car has very few miles on it, but looking through the paperwork afterwards, I discovered that the air filter had indeed been changed--the last time I got my oil done. Besides, air filters are those things that every mechanic throws in to up the cost. There's a huge mark-up on them. So, surprise surprise, another unethical mechanic's shop.
