For 12-14 Euro you get a nice plate with your choice of meat, rice or potatoes and cold veggies. The meat is grilled, which can make it slightly dry, but they compensate well with unlimited amounts of sauce. This place can get busy, so be prepared to wait a little before you get served. See pictures for examples of their meals!

We ordered the Bardak Alti (mini lamb pita) and the Ali Salata (salad) as starters. The mini pita is really small and probably for a single person, but was fine for the two of us to share just to get a taste. The salad was fresh and light, but also not a huge portion size. For the main, we opted to share an order of Barisik Tabak, which was a combo of Ali kebab (lamb & beef kebab), Saslik (veal w/ onion rings), and Pilic sis (tender cubes of chicken). This was a great sampler plate to try multiple grilled items and we really enjoyed it. The meat was tender and juicy, not dry at all, and very flavorful. The entree came with a small side salad and rice as well. We also ordered the baklava for dessert, which was super tasty as well.

In order of items we force-ranked was the hummus and dried beef. I wanted to fly this home and will dream about it. The fried eggplant was awesome and it is stir-fried. Coming from the southern US, to me fried means battered and deep fried. So when it came without a batter I thought "huh" but it was the absolute best eggplant I have had in my life. And I love eggplant. Then meatballs, lamb skewers and stuffed mushrooms. They serve toasted pita to go with the hummus which is awesome as well. This restaurant will be on our go-to/don't miss list when we visit Amsterdam. And the owners are just lovely people. I recommend highly!!

Tonight, our friend who introduced us to the restaurant, generously ordered the mixed grill extravaganza. Lamb, beef, chicken, rice, french fries, and, if that wasn't enough, a huge salad to go along with the meat. But first, appetizers. Shrimp grilled with feta cheese and mixed vegetables, as well as a tortilla-like wrap filled with goat cheese. And then there was bread, with not one, but THREE dipping sauces. And eggplant dip. The food and the service were outstanding. We even had to bring home leftovers. So. Much. Food!

The service was attentive and friendly and the food tasty (with a few exceptions, see below). One of the earlier reviews suggested the mezze but I have to disagree. It wasn't as good as other ones we've had (gross Dutch-style egg salad, mushrooms in a canned tomato sauce) - but there is a delicious green spread in there that's worth getting as well as a couscous salad and some feta spread. We also ordered the "typical Turkish dessert" of warm dates and yogurt. It was six small dates barely warm with a gross port sauce and a scoop of yogurt. DO NOT ORDER IT, you will be massively disappointed as we were. That said, the lamb grill was good. Compared to Turkish restaurants I've eaten at in Amsterdam it was slightly more expensive.

Even though the menu is a surprise, they accommodate food allergies. Our server explained the process of dinner as well as each dish very well. As someone who loves to cook, I liked hearing about how some of the dishes were prepared. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was intimate and rustic with brick walls, candlelight, and wood. The open kitchen was a delight to watch - they were hustling, but calm and quiet. We ate early on a weeknight which was also nice. It's fine Dutch dining but in a casual atmosphere. Food: The food was very tasty with options for a 3, 4, or 5 course dinner. We opted for 5 course and there were also upgrades like wine pairings and a cheese plate dessert instead of the preset dessert. The menu had a range of meat and veggies, but they also offered a full vegetarian menu too. The two plates that stood out was the venison dish which was cooked perfectly, as well as the unique dessert - the cherries and Thai basil oil with vanilla ice cream paired really well with my ruby port. We were a party of 4 vacationing from the USA. Bathrooms were clean, service was delightful, and it was well worth getting out of city center for a nice dinner!
