I do NOT recommend John Holliman for estate services. I feel as though his pricing was a case of…read morebait-and-switch. Mr. Holliman pressured my recently widowed mother for a hefty $5,000 up-front fixed fee, telling her that he absorbs all the risk if he cannot get the job done for the fixed fee. My mother paid Mr. Holliman the $5,000, but the family did not hear from him for several weeks. After our sending several emails and leaving phone messages, Mr. Holliman finally called my mother to say that her case was more complicated and he needed to switch to a rate of $300 per hour, with no cap. Since we were not comfortable with that arrangement, we engaged another attorney to handle the estate, with no probate involved. The paralegal at this second firm handled most of the details, with oversight from the attorney - at a much smaller legal fee. After the work was completed, we told Mr. Holliman that we did not want to go forward with his services and wanted our money refunded. However, he claims that he had already started the work and would, therefore, be keeping the $5,000 fee. I attempted to reach out to Holliman and was met with condescension and arrogance. His details of the work he claimed to do are, frankly, laughable. We feel as though he has taken $5,000 from a widow, doing little or nothing to earn it. I have filled out complaint paperwork to be filed with the Alabama Bar Association regarding Mr. Holliman's business practices.
