Fabulous place with friendly staff. Of course, there are some differences when you're not still in America, such as never bringing your own drinks into a restaurant (charging 2 Euros or more for a small bottle of water is how most of them pay the rent), and a scoop of ice cream in a glass bowl costing more if you sit down at a table than if you get that same scoop of ice cream in a paper bowl (or sugar cone) and leaving, but none of that bothers me.
My favorite is probably the Bitterschokolade, which actually tastes like dark chocolate. My second favorite is probably the strawberry or the lemon, which taste like the fruits (not just vanilla ice cream with some flavor added). For a traditional German experience, ask for the "Nuss" (hazelnut) ice cream. I've also tried both the lemon and orange ricotta (think "lemon cheesecake"), the peach-mango, the yogurt with strawberry jam (which actually tastes like Greek yogurt, not like soft-serve ice milk), the "black and white" (cookies and cream), and several others. I like their vanilla better than the vanilla a block up the street, on the circle of Gärtnerplatz. The only flavor I haven't liked was the stracciatelli, which is basically vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips. I didn't care for the ice cream part of that one, as it seemed somewhat more watery than creamy.
As of September 2016, one scoop of ice cream is 1.20 Euros to go and 1.50 Euros at a table. If you have a little one, you can ask for a small scoop ("eine kleine Kugel"). It'll be the same price as a regular scoop (which is a bit small by American standards anyway) but may be more appropriate for a not-very hungry child. Sundaes are quite a bit more expensive, usually running about 6 Euros or more. If the kids want something fancy, then you should check the special children's menu, which has some fancy sundaes that are a bit smaller and less expensive than the adult ones. "Spaghetti eis" is probably the most popular: It's vanilla ice cream with strawberry sauce, decorated to look like a plate of spaghetti noodles. read more
