If I had driven to the further garage, I could have parked for free and received a parking pass from the hotel. (Check with the hotel if their designated free spots are on the 2nd floor. I was in a rush and I took one of the first spots I saw and ended up paying in advance. You can also park nearby by the Trader Joes and Daiso parking lot for free.

Confusing, crowded, and chaotic. It's been awhile since…read morewe've visited Bay Street in Emeryville. They have made changes to this parking facility since, and none for the better. They've instituted an absurd pay-in-advance system, where you pay for a set number of hours, instead of ticketing in and out and paying afterward for the exact time you used. How am I supposed to know ahead of time how long it will take me to shop and/or dine? Failing to pay in advance, or overstaying your prepaid hours results in being charged a $30 all-day fee. Without a ticketing system, I have no idea how they track any of this, but ok. You can pay at a kiosk, or by QR code. Of course they've eliminated the option to pay in cash, SMH. They should be incentivizing visitors to spend more time at Bay Street, but this weird parking system only makes people want to get their shopping/dining done as quickly as possible and bounce. This is hurting the businesses at Bay Street, and the merchants need to band together and insist on a better system. The garage is extremely crowded, and the spaces way too narrow. It doesn't exactly feel very safe either. Be very alert walking to and from your car here, and don't leave anything of value in your vehicle. P.S. If you get one of their 'tickets', just ignore it, they are not legally enforceable, as they are not issued by the city nor any government agency.

The entrance to this garage is on Hawthorne and make sure you take photos of where you parked and what elevator you're near so you don't get lost! I did so this time as the signs are rather confusing and there are no stall numbers on the parking spaces. Today, I allowed 30 minutes to find parking. I parked on B3 level and close to the Hawthorne Street elevator. Took the Hawthorne Street B3 level up to level Hawthorne Street B1. Someone passed by me and I asked how to exit the garage and she led me around the corner to the ADA exit/entrance and it takes you outside on Hawthorne Street. So I went to my appointment and now Carol Ann Reed Breast Center gives you free two hour validated parking, just like the old days before COVID! So coming back to the garage, I went back the same way I came through the ADA entrance/exit and inserted my original ticket to scan next to the door. I entered and turned right around the corner to the Hawthorne Street B1 elevator, went down to B3 and found my car! When I exited the garage, I had to insert the original ticket, then the validated 2 hour ticket and got out! Woohoo!

I pulled in and there was a "wait for attendant" sign, no attendant in sight. After about 30 seconds of waiting, he finally shows up and tells me its two dollars an hour (super cheap). I opted to pay 10 dollars for 5 hours, to which he told me to pay when I leave. I ended up staying for only 4 hours and when I left he charged me 8 dollars. Parking spaces itself are a little tight but you have the option to park in 2 spaces and no one is allowed to block you in so it was no issue whatsoever. Next time I am back in Oakland, I will pick this same parking garage. Location is great (right in the middle of chinatown), and super budget friendly.

It's a small two level parking garage under the condo complex on the corner of 9th and Franklin. The garage is also open to hourly parking as well. As you enter the garage, you pull up to stop sign and an attendant will stamp and give you a ticket. Then you proceed to find a spot in the garage in the lower level as the upper level with the two tiered stacked parking appears to be reserved. On the lower level, if you find a single slot space, which are at most ten slots, you can lock and keep your keys and not worry about the stacked parking system. That means if you park in back slot of the two vehicle slot, you can keep your keys, otherwise you need to give your keys to the attendant if you're in front slot. At the end of the day, you pay the attendant at the booth by the entrance and if you're parked in the back slot, you will need the attendant to move the car in front. It's a little inconvenient, but the attendant works hard to move the cars so people can get out of the garage. For all day parking at the early bird price of $8 is very reasonable, if you can deal with a little inconvenience in getting your car out of the garage.

That's cheaper than most of the smaller lots near by and definitely cheaper than the one of the Kaiser lots near by which is $14. I've tried to get monthly parking which I hear is even cheaper but there's a long waiting list. If you're just in the area for a couple hours, meters are still probably your best bet unless you have a tendency to go over and get parking tickets. They usually do special event parking when there's a show at the Paramount Theater. If not I think they usually close around 7pm. They recently went through some changes, now they have pay stations that will accept credit cards, before it used to be a pain if by the end of the day I didn't have cash to pay for parking. On Wednesdays it's usually packed because the Paramount usually hosts the swearing-in ceremony for new citizens. If you don't come to the lot by 10am-ish, it might be hard to get a spot in that lot. Again, it's a parking lot, so nothing to jump up and dance about, but for folks that drive to work in the Uptown Area, I think it's one of the best options barring parking far enough away into West Oakland where they don't have meters.
