Dreamy, incredible and full of awe!…read more This gorgeous opera house is everything. We came here for Simon Boccanegra by Giuseppe Verdi. Disclaimer: I'm not heavy into opera or know a whole lot about them. However, this place was a WOW moment. Being in Vienna, the most incredible, historical, full of life, music and character, city in the world - a visit to the Opera House was needed. We are so glad we did! They have all kind of seat selections, balcony, floor and even standing for a more budget friendly approach. Our little balcony section was awesome though it had a heavily blocked view we were able to hear everything so clearly plus we had the little screens where you can follow along with the vocals. It was an unforgettable experience and so worth it if you're in Vienna visiting. You can also book tours and learn all about the history of the opera house which I think would be fascinating to learn.
If you're in Vienna, you definitely have to visit the State Opera House! I've been to opera houses…read morein the U.S., but most of them are relatively new compared to this one. The level of detail here is incredible - every corner feels like a work of art, from the ornate ceilings to the grand staircases. The performance was equally stunning. The orchestra and opera singers were on another level - so powerful and moving that even though I'm not usually into classical music, I loved every minute of it. This was truly an unforgettable experience and one of those bucket-list items you absolutely have to check off when visiting Vienna.

The performers were generally top-notch and their Baroque attire was a nice bonus. The staff mostly enforced the "no video" policy. People dress fairly decently here, but you'll find those that consider flip-flops and shorts as proper classical music attire. It's a lovely venue overall, so definitely soak in the history.

I purchased tickets for the Golden Hall through Booking.com in the Superior Orchestra section, and when we picked up the tickets we were upgraded. That was a nice surprise. The view was absolutely perfect. It was an incredible evening from start to finish. The acoustics were phenomenal, and the entire performance was breathtaking. The solo violinist and the female opera singer were true standouts. Their performances felt like pure magic and were among the highlights of the night. The Vienna Mozart Orchestra appeared in beautiful 18th-century period costumes, bringing the music and atmosphere of Mozart's era vividly to life. A truly unforgettable experience and one I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Vienna.

The actors were so versatile, playing several roles each, even switching genders with limited costume changes. I was very impressed. The venue itself is quite intimate. You really can't get a bad seat. However, as is often the case in small theatres, there was a rush for the small toilets at the intermission. I doubt that everyone made it through the lines. The bar area was nice but small. It appeared that some people made arrangements to have drinks waiting for them at the tables during intermission but there was no signage saying this was an option. Still I would recommend visiting if you get a chance.

One needs to take some time to look UP when inside each of the areas, you will see things you did not expect to see, a very pleasant addition to your experience here. The acoustics are not as good as the new modern theaters, but certainly they are nothing to complain about, but there is a noticeable difference.

For anyone loving…read morethe more "independent" smaller yet with lots of character kinda theatres, this is the one for you! I have to admit I've passed this theatre plenty of times but never really paid any attention to it. It was seeing the poster for this play on Facebook (ah yes, Facebook...) that finally peeked my interest. Creativity in design work always gets me hooked (the curse of once being a graphic designer I guess). I found it clever, funny and the title - well, for anyone loving Hitchcock you just can't help but wonder what it's all about. The play, after my initial first reaction of "what have I gotten myself into?!" was brilliant! A 4-(wo)man assemble with a plot that's not only witty and disturbing in a way, but also creative given the limited space they had to deal with. They incorporated video that gave the whole play more dimension and you really had the feeling of traveling with them in time and space. The main character, the woman plotting, if you will, was definitely my favorite. The ending, so unexpected you couldn't help but cheer! It's not playing that much longer so please make sure you go see it and support these wonderful actors.

First night in Vienna, wanted to kick back, relax and have a nice evening out and take in a stage…read moreshow in a classically beautiful theatre. "On the Ground Floor and First Floor" by Johann Nestroy was playing at the Volkstheater. Although it was completely in German (a language I do not speak), the play was wonderfully costumed, acted with fantastic music. The Volkstheater is perhaps the most beautiful theater I've ever been in. The old playhouse layout, the side loges and adorned balconies are reminiscent of my idea of a "Mozart-era" venue (although it was only constructed in the late 1800's). In the winter, they do have the heat cranked up pretty high (as is the case in most places in Austria/Germany in the winter), so expect to take advantage of the free (and mandatory) coat check.
