This historical building, where the Bonaparte family lived and is Napolean's birthplace, was turned into a museum that offers audio self-guided tours of house (takes less than an hour). You learn about the entire Bonaparte family, which gives you a peek into Napoleon's childhood before he left the mainland and went on his path of becoming a military commander and political leader.

Ajaccio, capital of Corse, is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte and a visit to his home is a…read morepilgrimage of sorts. in this parental home he lived until age 9(1779) when he was packed off to school in the mainland. in the 19th century it was a site almost of cult worship and today considered a hallowed place rich in memorabilia of the Emperor and his siblings, whom he planted in the thrones of Europe. his birthday is still celebrated each year on Aug 15 with fireworks & parades and people visit the maison natale to pay homage. did you know he established the Napoleonic(civil) code, which laid the administrative and judicial foundations for much of Europe, the Americas and Africa? une grande histoire.

Smooth experience to disembark and embark ship, and close to the town with shops, eateries, and local sites. The ease of port made the trip added to us enjoying our time in the capital, the Imperial City.

It ensured easy access to the town and…read moretourist sites, was nice and clean, and was equipped with a tourist information booth right as you got off the ship. Oh...another super convenient thing... FREE WIFI! Yep, you heard that right. The port offers free wifi to all who visit! The access id and passwords are provided on the tourist information booth. In all, this was an incredibly tourist friendly location. The only suggestion (which of course goes against the culture we were visiting) would be to have more open on Sundays. I know...I know.... anything being open in Europe sounds a little nuts, but seriously....if you know that a ship is coming into port, having the state run sites open would make people want to encourage others to see these sites as well as want to possibly visit again.

We had one night at Hotel Mirage on capo testa and spent a full day exploring…read more The northern and western side of Capo Testa are wilder, less crowded, and full of pebbly beach coves and these huge crazy rock formations that you can spend all day coming up with what they look like, but often feels like a giant boneyard of extinct dinosaurs. I recommend going there for sunset. The tiny strip that connects capo testa to the mainland has amazing but crowded beaches on both sides with white fine sand and turquoise clear water that seems to extend forever. I enjoyed going to the crowded beach in the morning/day and then the end of the day to sunset at the wild north/west beaches. Not too many restaurants/shops on Capo Testa - locals told us to go to mainland Santa Theresa for good pizza, etc, but the small convenience store just past the strip beaches (on your left as you drive from mainland further into capo testa) at least sells cold Prosecco and cold Ichnusa (Sardinian beer that is actually pretty good) - sometimes rare to find stores with drinks already cold in Italy, so this is important if staying at a hotel with no fridge like we were in the end of August ;).

This beautiful little church is a gem. Don't miss it, it overlooks the harbor. It can be a quick…read morevisit, but it's something I think you should see!
