    a plate of food

Even in DC, good Filipino food is a precious commodity. Most times you have to venture above the beltway into unknown shopping plazas, and even more frequently what you find will disappoint. So you can only imagine my pleasure when we not only discovered that Lawton had Filipino food but that it was REALLY good!! Whenever I visit my husband who is at Ft. Sill for BOLC, my first stop is AJP. We literally go straight from the little lawton airport to this place. Its right off Sheridan near the Asian market. Different specials grace the menu. It seems that there are always a few things that are the permanents - chicken/pork adobo, fried fish, Pinakbet, Pancit, and lumpia. I love the adobo and pinakbet - make sure you get some extra adobo sauce for your rice - nice and salty vinegary. The specials are also good, we've seen pigs feet, lechon, sinigang, leche flan...but I'm sure there's a lot more. It's basically just a counter where you point what kind of food you want with a couple tables and a register - kind of like Panda Express at the mall but in a little Filipino grocery store with really good home cooking. Don't skip this place on your tour of Lawton cuisine, I promise you won't be disappointed. Even if you've never tried it - give it a shot. My husband brought some friends who'd never had Filipino food and they loved it!! As for me, I'll be continuing to visit, hoping to see my old friends halo halo, balut, and diniguan.

Pork adobo, deep dried sardine and pancit.

AJ is a small mom and pop grocery store with the addition of a lunch counter. After living in Hawaii, I have very strong opinions when it comes to Filipino foods. I had pork adobo, deep fried sardine and pancit. Pork was tender, and seasoned well. I like mine extra tangy and a small bottle of vinegar was on the table to accommodate. The sardine was a little dry but seasoned well. Deep fried, not greasy, and tasted fresh. Store and restaurant were very clean. Waitress/owner was very friendly and attentive even as there were grocery shoppers. As you leave, you have to drive around the back of the store to exit. Very impressed with the garden the family has planted and are using in their food! Homemade taste with fresh veggies grown on site? Great! If you want a taste of the Philippines, stop by AJ!

Haha I love when you walk in and feel like family

If any of you truly read my post you may be wondering why always a five star... I only return to restaurants that in my eyes are a five star. To me and my husband its customer service first, then the food and then the price. A lot of restaurants now a days have horrible customer service. Even though the food may be good... if the customer service sucks we will not return. Anywho...The only place to get home cooked Pilipino food in Lawton. The couple that own the business are sweet and love what they do. If you become a regular be ready to be treated like family. My favorites are the pork adobo and a desert called turon. They only take cash and only have bottled soda (coke, diet coke, sprite and DrPepper), water and then coconut juice. It's also a small grocery store for items needed for cooking some of the Pilipino food. If your up tight about everything then this place is not for you... You have to be able to loosen up when things don't go your way.

Pork chop, chicken adobo, and pancit noodles with rice

I felt like I stepped into someone's home kitchen eating here. The food is reflective of that too. It seems very authentic and something that the family that runs the store would probably have themselves. There were filipino people coming in and out for a meal, so it seemed pretty legit. The food is premade and kept in heating trays but it seems relatively fresh with new batches being made when the customer flow is higher. On the advice of the waitress, I tried a marinated porkchop which I'd recommend, and the adobo chicken, which was decent but I wish came in larger portions than two chicken wings. I also had the pancit noodles as a third option, which were good, but I'd probably get something else since there's already rice that comes with the meal. The service is excellent here as it's run by a couple with the husband taking care of the food in the back, and the wife running the front of the restaurant.

I started off with the pork lumpia, which was paired with a housemaid, sweet Thai chili sauce that has more of a cake than usual. I usually prefer the glass bottle Mae ploy, but I'm glad I was able to try this. Their homemade sweet chili is made with a little extra Thai chili leading to a savory, sweet, and spicy flavor that is out of this world! The lumpia was crisp, hot, and perfectly made. The raspberry lemonade was equally as delightful! It was a large serving of lemonade, and what I can guess was a raspberry purée. This definitely cooled the palate and quenched my thirst on a hot sunny Saturday afternoon. Finally, the Beef bulgogi quesadilla was perfectly spiced, hot, and ready within minutes. This was paired with a side of guacamole, sour cream, and green chili salsa. I found that dipping the quesadilla in the remaining sweet chili sauce was perfect. I will not hesitate come back. I actually will be seeking this food truck out anytime that I come back to Fort sill. Next time I may take some pictures, I was just too hungry and the food was too good. PS. The pictures currently on yelp do not do the food justice.

I've been in OKC for the past month and staying 6 min away from this restaurant and did not know…read moreabout it until my brother who's visiting me found it online. We had a good laugh at the name because we had a feeling they were the same dialect as our family and there's not too many of us around. I stopped in today and was greeted by a host who offered me to sit anywhere I'd like. I was starting to think there weren't many, if any Filipinos in OKC and was delighted to see not just Filipinos but other backgrounds dining in as well. The restaurant itself was clean and well decorated. The menu had a pretty standard offering of Filipino dishes as well as additional items on a separate chalkboard on the wall. I saw things like 'pinapaitan' and 'kilawen' and knew for sure they had to be ilocano. I ordered chicharron bulaklak and bangsilog. My order didn't take too long to come out and when it did, the presentation was neatly plated with heart shaped rice on each plate. I really appreciated that small attention to detail and felt they really put a lot of love into the food. I thought the food was excellent. They nailed the texture on the chicharron bulaklak and I devoured everything. Towards the end I saw they had cassava cake (my personal favorite) and was really excited to order it but was told they had sold out. Regardless, it did not take away from my experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will make sure to make this a regular stop whenever I'm in town for work.

DELICIOUS LUMPIA! If…read moreyou are in Oklahoma, what are the chances of getting decent Filipino food??? I was skeptical but I wanted to bring some of our culture to the shindig our Oklahoma family was throwin' down. In Oklahoma City there are only 2 options for Filipino food to choose from. Both had pretty good pictures of lumpia on Yelp. No answer when I called one option, but NaGemmas answered the the phone promptly and with a joyful demeanor that represented the kind of "Filipino Welcome" you expect when you first walk in to a Filipino Party. Love that! Okay, I'm hooked! The lovely voice proceeded to answer my questions about catering and when I told them I needed it Sunday, she replied, "We are closed on Sundays, but we can make it work. When do you need it by?" I'm all... "Wait... WHAAAT??? Y'all will come in, even if you're closed?!?" I've never seen this before from any eatery in the world!!! Is this an Oklahoma thang?!?! I was completely appreciative of their offer to come in on a closed day and placed my order for Beef Lumpia, their version of Lumpia Shanghai. Just to guarantee I would be there at the assigned time, I paid for half the order over the phone. When we showed up the next day (5 minutes late, SORRY, Po!), we met the daughter, the lovely phone voice who's name completely eludes me (DOH!) and her mom (cook & owner) Gemma, as in "na-GEMMA's." These ladies were such friendly souls and really made us feel appreciated that we ordered food from them. We took some pictures and off we went. Okay, Let's eat! BEEF LUMPIA: a.k.a. Lumpia Shanghai. Their pork lumpia sounds like the bigger sized traditional lumpia. Typically, Filipinos bring Lumpia Shanghai to parties so we tried represent the way we do it in Cali. Lumpia is a popular dish at Filipino parties and typically the first to disappear from the buffet line. You can tell the authenticity of the lumpia here, even before the first bite because NaGemma's offers BOTH sawsawan (dipping sauces), sweet chili sauce AND suka't bawang (vinegar and garlic, but you have to ask for this one). The lumpia quality here IS PERFECT! Bigger in size than what we get in California. The meat inside is flavorful and not salty at all. Every lumpia piece is fried to perfection, golden brown and crispy. LEGIT! VERY EASY RECOMMENDATION! Nom Nom level is HIGH! If their Beef Lumpia dish is an indication of the authenticity of the food created here, I am very excited to come back when we return to visit Oklahoma. Thank you (Maraming salamat, po!) for the experience! :)

There is a large variety of meats, seafoods, stir-frys, etc. to pick from the buffet, and there is a dedicated Vietnamese food section that offers a variety of noodle soups, spring rolls, as well as banh xeo that are made fresh to order. There is also a Mongolian grill where you can build your bowl, and they will stir-fry it in front of you. Don't forget dessert as there is quite the selection of sweet snacks and treats, and there is even an ice cream machine with a toppings bar. There really is something for everyone! It had been over 15 years since my last visit, and surprisingly, not much has changed. What really makes this buffet stand out is the Vietnamese station, where you can build your own pho, udon, or egg noodle soup, along with sampling dishes like bánh xèo and bánh cuốn. That's mostly what I focused on. The udon broth was flavorful and comforting, though I do wish there had been more meat options available--it felt like we caught the tail end of a batch. I also tried some of the more typical buffet offerings like chow mein, chicken wings, and beef and broccoli. They were decent overall, but the food leaned noticeably sweet, especially the chow mein, and several dishes were lukewarm. Desserts were pretty underwhelming. The only thing I enjoyed was the soft-serve ice cream; the chocolate wafers were stale, and the rest didn't stand out. On the plus side, service was great. Our server was attentive, kept drinks refilled, and cleared plates promptly.
