We bought math workbooks and a subscription to IXL to use during the summer. However, it became clear that having regular sessions and attention from a tutor was needed. Having me, her parent, as her tutor was . . . challenging for us both. Mathnasium seemed like something to try next. After the initial skills assessment, we decided to sign her up for the summer sessions. After a few sessions, it became clear that she was loving it. She enthusiastically attended each session this summer (20 one-hour sessions!), had a great time with the tutors, and learned quite a bit. She just completed her school's math placement assessment for the next school year. She definitely caught up on the missed instruction and then some! My kids couldn't even read and they were in second grade. I transferred them to keystone and by April my kids have surpassed their grade level reading and now are at the top of the class. This school does NOT take bullying. I've seen several kids get suspended/expelled for fighting and bullying in general. Every school is going to have its pros and cons but this school is absolutely one of the best for curriculum, and attention to detail when teaching you're children. I strongly feel that if you have the chance to send you're children here that they would benefit from not only educational but morally too. This is the best school for lots of children and these schools vary based on each individual school so judging all based on one won't work. You'll have to see for yourself! Truly great school!! BKB is not your traditional high school. It's a charter school for youth who have been expelled…read morefrom school, have not been engaged in school and are failing, or have experiences with the juvenile justice system and have missed school. As a social worker I've had several students attend this campus and it worked well for each of them. Yes, some of the other students skip class or misbehave, but the students who want to learn have the benefit of working with teachers who really want them to succeed. The accelerated schedule also means that students can catch up on what they have missed, enabling some who wouldn't have been able to to graduate on time. They will accept students with IEPs and are well versed at working with kids who have both learning and behavioral issues.
