It is impeccably designed and maintained. It is incredibly clean and tastefully decorated in a beautifully minimalistic way with wonderful accent lighting. I was fortunate enough to work with Bryan, who was kind enough to engineer my session with a remote studio in San Francisco. I will be honored to return to evolution audio in the future. I very much enjoyed my time here, and the kindness of everyone who I encountered.

So here's the backstory; there is a lot of graffiti by an artist named Scribe in Kansas City, who made a name for himself actually doing mainstream art stuff and he was actually hired to do his spray paint stuff on quite a few buildings around the city (the old Woodsweather's Cafe, Big Dude's before they painted over it, the wall across from Gomer's liquor on 39th and Broadway, and the masterpiece, behind the old XO dance club, behind the parking lot on the NW corner of Westport Rd. and Broadway before the hooligans go to it; among many others). Anyhow, while there are many other talented graffiti artists around town (see the old community center south of the church at 2544 Madison Ave near the Blvd. Brewing company), Scribe and his buddies have been pretty prolific. And while I think I've seen most of them, and have decent taste in the graphic arts, I am most impressed by the murals at Evolution Audio. Here's the thing, the graffiti itself it always fantasy-themed, and very anthromorphic, as if playing a game with the viewer, asking the viewer to push the limits of their preconceptions. Along that note, these murals actually integrate the building itself, and plays a trompe l'oeil on the viewer, making this mural fresh and new every time you look at it, beyond the exciting characters and attention to detail in the artwork. And what may be even more impressive, Evolution Audio's web site actually has a menu page, of local eateries. They are yelpers at heart, I'm sure. http://www.evolutionaudio.com/locate.html

Months ago, when my band, The Latenight Callers, released a home-recorded EP of songs, we first went to Duane at Weights & Measures to do the Mastering for that release. After witnessing the care and detail he went through to ensure the highest sonic quality for our project, we knew we had a great opportunity in line to work with him for a full on recording project. Duane was open for discussion with us during the months of planning we spent before actually going into the studio to do the actual recording. The ability to work with him to best prepare ourselves as a band proved invaluable; we were able to confer with him on everything from the vintage microphones and outboard gear he employs to actually record with, to the more abstract and "arty" notions of what the band was looking for in overall production, mood, and process. Through all of our pre-production work, we were able to walk into the studio with confidence that we were going to be able to capture precisely what we set out for, and that Duane had the skills and sensitivity to help accomplish this. Once we started recording, Duane's professionalism, skills, ears, and stamina will available to us until we exhausted ourselves, keeping up with our myriad peculiarities and matching us with his own inspiration towards our project. After two full weekends utilizing everything his studio has to offer, the confidence we have in our recorded output is, without question, absolutely better than we could have even imagined. If you have a recording project you need worked up, whether as a full band or an individual musician, I cannot recommend Duane and Weights & Measures highly enough. Of course, the proof will be evident (from my standpoint, at least), when The Latenight Callers are able to release the results of this, here in the Spring.

When I first came to them I wasn't sure how to articulate what I wanted out of my project. They helped me storyboard it, put together a casting call, scout for locations, book everything for me, and did rehearsals with me. The only thing I had to do is show up and perform. It made me feel comfortable in working with them and made my experience better. The editing team helped me pick out the pieces I liked best and integrate creative imagery in post. Lonnie took it another step further by helping promote the video. He got write-ups in magazines, the newspaper, featured on the news, and got my numbers up on the video. I am glad I went to them and I couldn't have asked for a better team to work with than this crew.

He helped me perfect my vocals and made me sound better than my previous albums at other studios. I've worked with people like Joel at Element. Andy is pretty much on par with his work and quality. Definitely worth my time. The only thing that bugged me a bit was that the trash can was full and there was pee on the seat when I went to the bathroom. I would like to see the studio a little bit cleaner, so if someone would check those things more frequently I'd be perfectly content. I will be back there for my next EP this summer.
