    Air Force Memorial
    Karen V.

This particular memorial is near Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon. It's a beautiful site from either of these locations. There is plenty of free parking for those who wish to drive up to see it. This is my second visit to the memorial after attending a funeral at ANC. There was a military ceremony going on under the spires so I just took pictures from the park area out of respect. I'm also adding pictures from my first visit which was 4 years ago. As you see, it's quite tall and reaches the sky. The 3 steel spires soar up into the sky. It's about 402 feet above sea level. It appears that the architect decided to use 3 fighter jet trails instead of 4 (missing man) to coincide with the 3 core values (Integrity, Service, and Excellence). I'm not sure if that's the true interpretation, but I guess it means different things to different people. It still looks interesting in the daytime as the sun shines on it. I feel it would be more striking in the evening with the lights shining up on it. The 8 foot Air Force honor guard statue is impressive. I think it's meant to be a tribute to the fallen who gave their lives when serving in the Air Force. Maybe it's just meant to be a representation of honor guard members who proudly bear the flag and bury our fallen service members. Either way, it's a very nice tribute. Also, there's a very nice view of Arlington National Cemetery and DC from this hill. If anything, it's worth a visit just for the view. One more thing to add... there is some construction in the area due to the Arlington National Cemetery Southern Expansion. The cemetery will be expanding by 70 acres so that they can add 49 acres of new burial space. The Air Force Memorial will eventually be an integrated part of the cemetery which I think is actually quite cool. The Army Corps of Engineers website has more information and a drawing of the the planned expansion. I can't wait to see it again when it's all finished.

Very nice and quite artistic. The spires are higher than I knew, and spark imagination. I've been here 3 times and find that this place makes me slow down and really think. Looking up at the spires forces us human beings to tilt our heads way back and gaze into the sky--very clever. It touches upon what the Air Force is all about. I'm a fan of sculpture; this tribute to the men and women of the Air Force is very sculptural! Perhaps the fact that the spires are made out of a high gloss stainless steel give them a tremendously striking appearance. Also love the statuary of the 4 soldiers marching in their dress blues. It humanizes the presentation. If they weren't present, it wouldn't be obvious what this memorial is all about. It's a much smaller outdoor space than other monuments which honor the various branches of military in the DMV, but intimate and well done. Overall, this spot has a dreamy, ethereal quality about it; great for taking photos, too.

Had a great time at Air Force Memorial. It gives a great view of DC. There are even restrooms. I like the statues.

The stately United States Air Force Memorial offers views of the Pentagon and the District of Columbia across the Potomac River. One can see the Washington Monument through the spires of the monument (designed to look like contrails from Air Force jets). Photogenic, to say the least. In crowded on my visits. Easy to get to on bike, with a rack behind the guard booth. Inscription says it well: "Every man and woman who has worn the Air Force uniform is part of a great history. From the Berlin Airlift to the Korea War, to Vietnam, to the Gulf War, to Kosovo and today's war on terror, a long blue line of heroes has defended freedom in the skies above. To all who have climbed sunward and chased the shouting wind, America stops to say: Your service and your sacrifice will be remembered forever, and honored in this place by the citizens of a free and grateful nation." - President George W. Bush at dedication ceremony October 14, 2006.

Memorials don't so much get reviews as visitor tips. I am perturbed that it's in Virginia, as the Air Force is federal and our national monuments and memorials belong in the District. I will say it has a nice view and gets a breeze on top of its hill. Unlike the Marine Corps Memorial, this one is really not easy to access. The metro isn't that close, and most of the parking nearby has weird restrictions related to the military base (there's also a row of 24 hour parking that is used for warehousing tour buses for some reason). The structure is distinctive, and looks impressive from up close as well from a distance. There are several other plaques and elements besides the main three-spire piece, as well as restrooms that will hopefully reopen some day. I don't really have ties to this one as I do to some memorials, but it is worth getting to.

This is a privately funded war Memorial and is unique. Very serene and awe inspiring. Consider taking a picture of yourself by placing your phone on the ground and set the timer to take a picture of you looking down with thr massive spirals above.

Had a chance to visit the Air Force Memorial on a recent visit to Washington DC. I love the soaring spires that so well represent what the Air Force does and is all about. My father was in the Air Force, fought in Vietnam as an F4 pilot then continued his career right up to the end of the F4 as a serviceable fighter aircraft outside of the Wild Weasels. Along his path we were stationed in various places around the world, from the deserts of the Southwest to Germany, and places in between. He served as a flight instructor, safety officer for the Ninth Air Force, and advanced flight instructor for combat training. He retired as a Lt. Colonel, then went into the airlines where he flew until he passed away unexpectedly. Visiting the memorial reminded me of his life, of the things we did and saw along the way. He wasn't really a military man, but he loved the aspect of flying. Adored it. He was a pilot, not a soldier, and to me the memorial represents truly the aspect of flying. From now on, whenever I am in Washington, I am going to make it a point to visit this memorial.

Nice views of the DC skyline. Plenty of parking and easy to get too off the highway. There is more to explore on this site but the views are worth the stop.

This memorial is like nothing you'll ever see. If you visit the 9/11 Memorial, it's just a short way over to this one and well worth the extra time and effort. It doesn't take long to visit this quiet and beautiful place that also has some spectacular views. Don't miss this one.

We were on a tour bus trip from Ocala, FL to Washington, DC with many stops there and back. What an awesome trip. Our first stop was at this memorial. The significance for me at this memorial was that 1 of my 4 brothers (Bob) was a chief master sergeant in The Air Force and my son Tim was also in The Air Force as a pilot. This memorial is majestic, well done and appealing to see.

What a beautiful memorial, sitting in Arlington, Virginia. I stumbled upon this beautiful place while driving to northern Virginia from Baltimore. My GPS had me driving in circles, and when it finally stopped acting up, I found myself driving alongside this monument. It sits atop a hill, and is three separate structures. It commemorates the fallen that served in the Air Force. I am prior Navy, but I have friends that were pilots in the Air Force. While fortunately none died in war, not the same can be said about all combat pilots. I was in Naval aviation, so I have a heart of the aviation community in all military branches. I recommend you check out this place, whether you have military ties or not.

Off we go into the wild blue yonder, Climbing high into the sun; Here they come zooming to meet our thunder, At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun now!) Down we dive, spouting our flame from under, Off with one helluva roar! We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey! Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force! They picked a perfect spot for this memorial. It sits high on a hill and from the base on the monument you can look down over the Pentagon, National Mall and surrounding area. The high and sweeping structures are an inspirational tribute to those who have come before us.

While not in the center of the DC sites, it's worth a visit to view the Air Force Memorial in Arlington and pay tribute to the USAF. You'll find three striking yet minimalistic structures spiraling into the air at the site along with plaques and views. I wasn't able to stay long, unfortunately, due to a scheduled private concert the evening of my arrival. The nice security guard on duty gave me a cap of five minutes to run out and snap some photos. Even just in that short amount of time, I was enthralled by the beauty and tranquility of the site. Take a trip to view this memorial if you can! It's impressive for sure.

I had to crawl under the table and remove the desk plus and use the floor plugs directly. Setting - Terrible, the staff do nothing to enforce a good library setting conducive to reading and studying. It's always incredibly loud, lots of screaming kids, and just obnoxious people talking full volume, laughing out loud, or big meeting groups humming around. They let homeless people sleep and malinger around all over the place and it STINKS. Cleanliness - Disgusting, the floors and surfaces are always very dirty and the bathrooms are third world. Shit smeared everywhere, USED TP all over the place, broken soap dispensers off the walls never replaced, never any paper towels, etc. I also witnessed a homeless guy doing drugs off the sink. Comfort - Need more comfy seating. Only a few soft seats and none with feet support or reclining. Most of the chairs are very hard and the desks/tables are set too low. In planning the trip, which began about a year prior, we were recommended through a friend to use Asimina Tours; we were put in contact with Dimitri. Right away, Dimitri worked very closely with us to find out what we were interested in seeing, how long we were looking to stay in Italy, and what our budget was. From there, Dimitri, along with his partner Christina, put together an amazing package that allowed us to see all the sights. We went to Venice, Como, Milan, Florence, Rome, and Sorrento. Along the way, we had many day trips, the majority of which were fantastic. From Pisa, Siena, Lucca, Cinque Terre (a favorite), the Vatican, Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, and Capri, it was a once in a lifetime experience and we had the most amazing time. Other highlights of the trip were the wine tasting in Tuscany and the private cooking class in Sorrento. They were also very accommodating with some last minute trip ideas. About 2 months prior to leaving, I had learned that one of my favorite bands, Queens of the Stone Age, were going to be performing in Italy while we were there. We contacted Dimitri and he was able to rearrange our hotel and travel accommodations, including a last minute domestic flight, without any issues. Dimitri and Christina made the entire process run smoothly. All of our travel tickets and hotel reservations were all available through the app. Our hotels were centrally located and were within walking distance from the major attractions. We really appreciated the private transportation arrangements to take us from the hotels to the train stations/airports, as well as the private tours. If you are planning on going to the Mediterranean area of Europe, I would highly recommend using Asimina Tours, they were awesome.

The quality and detail involved in the instruction here is superb - you feel like you're being given all of the information you need, from the basics to more complex properties of the helicopters. There was no point where I felt like the information was overwhelming or over-simplified: it seemed like the right mix of education and beginner's instruction. As for the flight, it's a blast!
