Despite being the largest city in Saskatchewan, there are only a handful of airlines that fly to Saskatoon. Air Canada offers flights to Toronto and Vancouver. I have had some mixed experiences flying on Air Canada and unfortunately my experience flying from Saskatoon to Seattle via Vancouver was one of the bad ones.
The airline was understaffed and it seems the airline uses the same gate at the airport. This was troublesome as they had two different planes that came in from Toronto and Vancouver arriving around the same time. Leaving a dilemma of which plane to give priority. One plane needs to park at the gate, unload passengers and checked baggage, clean, board new passengers and checked baggage before departing. Unfortunately, the flight from Toronto had priority, meaning my plane back to Vancouver was waiting on tarmac for a while. Suffice to say, my plane left Saskatoon very late.
By the time I arrived in Vancouver, it was about 20 minutes or so before my flight to Seattle was supposed to leave and I still needed to clear US customs. This was also the last flight to Seattle that day. I ran as fast I could and to my surprise, I was able to get through customs and board my flight to Seattle. Even the gate agent was surprised that I was able to catch my plane. I have experienced more instances of my flight being delayed on Air Canada than other airlines even though I don't take them very often. If you decide to book on Air Canada, make sure to book an itinerary with sufficient time for your layover in case of a delay. read more
