A substantial amount of thermal/water amenities, all of which feel very sanitary/maintained. I wish I was able to schedule a massage - however, it is completely understandable I couldn't squeeze in an appointment the day of. I felt completely relaxed after my appointment! My only note is that the aroma mist in the salt room did not seem to work (this may have been user error). Additionally one of the showers in the locker room was not in service. Definitely recommend booking here if you are looking for a relaxing day!

Mind you they can be quite pricey, but this has all got to do with the image their trying to project, as well as the various treatments they offer. As usual I haven't heard of most of them, but was particularly curious about the rainforest shower. Thankfully, I have a friend who has actually been to the Amazon (they come in REALLY handy!) and basically it's a room with showerheads all over the ceiling, so it seems as though it's raining in the room. Ofcourse if you'd rather just have a facial and a massage, they do that as well. They've got two pools, one of which is thermal, and a gym for those who'd rather "feel the burn" than relax, though I'd rather get in the sauna when there's that alternative.

I was really pleased to discover that my new house was near a swimming pool. I like to swim fairly…read moreregularly but previously have not lived walking distance from a pool. So I'm really grateful that this is just round the corner as, during the cold winter months, it was too easy to put off the cycle to the pool for another night. Now, since it's not such an effort to get to the pool itself, I'll be going far more often. I have been here for a swim several times now. - I really like it! I'm used to modern build pools or super sporty swimming centres but, with a restored Victorian pool, Glenogle Swim Centre is the first pool of its kind I've visited. I like the nostalgia that comes with it. Service is friendly, the pool is always immaculately clean and the premises are safe, with several staff members on site. The staff at the front desk are always really friendly too which makes all the difference on a miserable winter night. - I'm impressed with my new local pool!

My only gripe is the fact I have to book my fitness classes so far in advance because there simply is not enough room to fit more than 12 people in the fitness room. The weights room is pretty good if you're the only person there, otherwise it can be quite awkward trying to find a good spot for yourself if there is another person trying to do weights.

This pool forms part of the Edinburgh Leisure group, who pissed me off before I ever had a chance…read moreto swim at one of their pools. You may know that the Royal Commonwealth pool is closed until 2070 or something like that, and it was there I had planned to get my necessary daily exercise (it's literally right next to the student Pollock Halls of Residence). So that was a fail.. That aside, the Warrender Pool is quite impressive, and it knows so, as you'll find a little boast of the its Victorian design in any literature to do with the pool. It's about £4 for a single swim pass, but what cracks me up is that they charge you an extra £1.20 if you want to have a shower... capitalism at it's best I say. However, I shopped around, and decided to join the Virgin Active Gym on Leith Walk, so I could have a little more variety, but if you're solely interested in swimming, they've got a pretty good membership deal.

I've just moved and needed to find somewhere to replace Leith Vic. After a brief foray to the Commonwealth Pool, where I was daunted by all the gigantic body-buildery types, i tried Warrender. And it's perfect. It's a really attractive gym, with everything I need. The cardio room looks out on the street (and lets me keep an eye on my bike locked out the front), then there's a machine and free weights area, and finally my favourite bit - a mats/ kettlebell/ suspension training area. That's in what was the Turkish steam room, so it's a cosy little spot with a lovely, complex arched ceiling to look up at. Get your trainers on and get over there - see you on the treadmills!

First off, they wouldn't let me keep my bag in the gym with me, but then the only place to put your stuff is in the lockers in the swimming area. This means taking off your shoes and walking on a dirty floor (yuck!) even if you're not going swimming. The area where the lockers are is also very humid and over time I believe my phone has been water damaged as a result of this, which is additionally frustrating. The staff have made no effort to work with me on this issue and when I pointed out that I have chronic fatigue and joint problems that make this endeavour more difficult for me than for others, they simply said that "no one gets special treatment here". I'm looking forward to trying Nuffield Health down the road, hoping that I won't be persistently harassed and scrutinized there.

The reception lady was exceptionally helpful on my first visit to the Dalry Swimming Pool…read more My visit was unfortunately spoiled due to a terribly rude member of staff who shouted at me "you can't have shoes on in here!" When I entered the pool area towards the lockers. Being new to the pool I had no idea that it was so poorly laid out that when you walk through the entrance doors from reception, the pool is right there with lockers, open showers and changing cubicals right next to the pool. No privacy there whatsoever. While swimming I hold on to the side when nearing the deep end as my feet don't touch the floor. This rude staff member then shouted at me again "if you can't swim without touching the sides you can't go up that end" all the while huffing and tutting and clearly in a foul mood. I know it may not seem like much but I am a disabled person and being confronted in such a way when I am new to the facilities and very rarely go to public places like this, has made me feel terrible and like I shouldn't go anywhere again for fear of repeat situations. Unfortunately a very negative experience on my first and last visit to the Dalry Swimming Pool.

This is the first time I have visited portobello swim centre since taking lessons at primary school…read moreand it was nice to return with my niece over 20 years later and I could see some changes but mostly as I remember. We enjoyed our visit, we both preferred it here than commonwealth pool or the WHEC as it is far less busy, and easy enough to get to by public transport, right on the beach promenade, it's a great location. This pool provide water toys and floats which we had lots of fun with but I must make you aware that the showers although partitioned are shared with both male and females and male attendants on duty but this wasn't a problem for me or my niece but it might make some people uncomfortable. Also, make sure you bring change for the locker because they don't have cash only card payment. It's handy to know that there are Turkish baths here too and a sauna but these must be pre- booked. All in all we had lots of fun and will definitely be returning again soon!

I have to confess that I've never ventured into the pool despite being the owner of an Edinburgh Leisure membership for the last 2.5 years.... The building itself is lovely & old. it's fair to say that some bits have withstood the test of time better than others. The best thing about it though is the cafe on the first floor. It's at the front, has lots of windows making it light & airy & more importantly, gives great views of the beach. I love sitting up there with a pot of tea & a freshly baked scone watching the waves crash onto the beach. They serve generous portions of the brekkie stuff. Their bacon rolls are generously stuffed & very filling, scrambled eggs are fluffy & come piled high on mounds of toast but my favourite is their home baking. I'm a sucker for a good scone. They do fab scones which are always fresh from the oven. Perfect after a run along the Prom. In fact their scones are the reason I run along the Prom. There's nothing like the promise of a reward to make me get out of bed on a Saturday morning & go for a run.

I've never been massively into swimming, because after a few lengths, I lose patience with having to exert myself too much, which is probably more to do with my rubbish technique than anything else. Despite this, I do think messing about in the pool is fun, and I was keen for the fun section of our swimming lessons, when we got to lark around slightly and swing on the rings that hang over the pool. Drumsheugh is interesting, in that it's the oldest private owned swimming club in Edinburgh and has retained a lot of its original, Victorian features. The club was founded in 1882, and still has rings and trapezes over the water, plus modern gym, sauna, and hot tub facilities. Membership numbers for the baths are limited to keep the pool chilled out and not too crowded, although the website does say there's currently no waiting list, which is obviously helpful if you're keen to join.
