I've been in the Bujinkan for 27 yrs, been to countless seminars from the Midwest, and up and down the east coast, trained in Japan multiple times and I still find Jeff's skill and insight into the combative arts outstanding. Just an FYI, I've trained in many other arts, so I'm not saying that naively. If you're looking for a place to train and grow as a martial artist in the truest sense of the word, you can't go wrong picking Muzosa of NY as your place to learn. Not only is this a great place to train, Jeff is an outstanding individual. I feel privileged to have trained with him on multiple occasions at his dojo in NY and at some of the many seminars that he has been inviteted to teach at. Within the second hour, one arm laying straight across my opponents neck and shoulder, my leg positioned behind his own, a small twist of my hips , and he was down- I knew I would never leave! I have been training under the superb instruction of Jeff Christian and his black belt senior students since that time, and have learned to find physical and mental strength within myself I didn't know existed. Jeff is a brilliant instructor- able to convey movement to a room full of students; movements that span centuries, passed down from teacher to teacher, and revitalized in a modern context for denizens of the city. Jeff has been a teacher, a guide and a true friend to me, and Muzosa has been a safe place of learning and camaraderie. We are a family, looking after one another, supporting each other's efforts both in an out of class. As a woman in the city, I find myself changed. I am aware of my surroundings in a way I never have been before. The strategies learned in class translate into my subway commutes or walks through crowds. Ours is a living art, and in that respect, we carry our training with us every moment. We look out for others as we do ourselves. Jeff has instilled in his students a great responsibility in this sense, and I am forever thankful for his instruction. He truly cares about his students, and the preservation of the art. I consider Muzosa my family. It is an incredibly welcoming, inclusive atmosphere..a melting pot, that mirrors the city itself. One can go to any barre class and get results but Tiffany is the best instructor/motivator and designer of her unique method called Booty by Rudi. Honestly,I have not missed a class because of her and her love for what she does. The smiles and directions she gives are beyond motivating - it can feel like a private lesson at times - she will take the time to walk the room and advise and smile to keep you going. I love when she says to the class to dig deep and " this is where the changes happen" .."your mind wants to say no but you say yes" I will add that the music is great and the vibe of the other members is what sets it apart in the crazy boutique fitness world. The swimming pool is very large and has plenty of lifeguards however the locker room/bathroom situations is quite a big problem mainly in the showers since there is little to no hot water some of the time also there are broken movable shower heads in both family locker rooms and the floor itself looks festered with disease it left a bad taste in my mouth. Besides that issue the community center has good heating and air conditioning and very friendly staff and good wifi as well.
