It is a small hotel with a restaurant. It's rustic, as you might expect, since it's in a skiing and recreation area in the alps. The rooms are simply furnished, but comfortable and homey. The restaurant serves huge portions of a delicious version of French country cooking. I had a beef stew served over ravioli, tasty and filling. No one here speaks English. I was the only one in the restaurant that wasn't French. Even though I don't speak French, the staff were friendly and patient and we were able to communicate enough for me to check in to my room and to have dinner in the restaurant. Overall, I would definitely recommend l'Escapade if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay in the Maritime Alps.

Something to bear in mind is that there is a parking lot, but sometimes all the parking spots are taken as there is a restaurant and a bar inside the hotel. There are parking lots on the area, but of course, you have to pay for them. I would die to return in the summer and take advantage of the hotel's extraordinary swimming pool and small beach resort.

The daily itinerary is carefully planned by people who know the wineries, restaurants, and experiences like cooking classes intimately. And everyone is courteous, happy, and well trained, carefully attending to every detail of the property and services. Yet most mind-blowing is the dinner. For whatever reason, the restaurant doesn't get the one or likely two Michelin stars that I know it deserves. The menu is based on regional ingredients but uses Denise's expertise and creativity that I couldn't find at any of the many other tradition-bound restaurants we tried while in Barolo and its neighbors. Located in the tiny residential village of Sinio its a little island by itself up on a breezy hilltop. Since this is a restored castle dating from the 12th century the stone walls are thick and windows are tiny to keep out medieval marauders and the rooms are all unique. We stayed in room 7 on the 1st (2nd the way we count) floor at the end of the hall featuring a large bedroom and sitting area that was a few steps below the hallway. It also had two small twin beds in a loft above so this room would be a good choice for family groups. The staff opened the wrought iron gate and greeted us at the top of the drive along with the owner. While the owner, Denise (who is American) checked us in and provided an extensive orientation while we sipped prosecco, the luggage was taken off to our room. One of the features of the property is an immaculately landscaped courtyard bespectacled with colorful blooms-an oasis of tranquility and beauty in an otherwise unremarkable village. The hotel also has an amazing restaurant open only to guests and we opted to try it our first night-oh my God! It turns out Denise is also the executive chef-perhaps her primary love-and we enjoyed a memorable 2-hour meal seated in the open-air Terrace tasting exquisite delights. We started by sharing the "into the garden pasta"-handmade ravioli artfully displayed with bits of shaved garden vegetables and herbs followed by a most delicious sole perfectly crispy on the edges and succulent with al dente vegetables and a beautiful sauce of lemon and passion fruit. Words just cannot describe how good this restaurant's food was. In fact, the dining is reason enough alone to stay here for anyone who enjoys the culinary experience of a master chef. We followed the meal with a decadent chocolate and cherry mouse cake that was the perfect finale to a beautiful evening. There are no shampoo or hair conditioner but no matter, the mattress is firm, sheets are crisp and the AC in every room keeps the temperature at 18 degrees centigrade with near perfect silence from anywhere! The decor in the foyer is rich and chandeliers everywhere and the toilet at the lobby was all marbled with individual stalls and flowers galore. Do try. People are so friendly here.

We alerted the hotel that we were delayed and they assured us that it would not be a problem. When we walked in at 23:49 we were promptly greeted and checked in. Not long after that we were sleeping off our jet lag. Our room, decorated with funky, brightly colored post-modern Euro-style furniture was compact, clean and comfortable. No complaints about the accommodations. The breakfast service was quite good. Unlike what we get at hotels in the USA, the bakery, the cheese, the charcuterie and even the coffee were excellent. And nothing beats pain au chocolat with your second espresso of the morning. On our final evening in Menton, after a stroll through the city we returned to the hotel and ordered some drinks from the bar (open 24 hours). The lack of bar tending skills by the employee on duty was the only blemish we experienced--but a minor one. He didn't exactly understand what I wanted and even after explaining, it still wasn't quite right. But, all I really wanted was some alcohol, and I got all the booze I needed at a fair price, even if the proportions of the drink were off. I'm not sure that I'll ever be back to Menton, but if I am, I'll book my room at the Hôtel Napoléon again.

Situated in the South of France on the Italian border, Menton is surrounded by gorgeous mountains and the bright blue Sea. Hotel Napoleon is a 4 star establishment with a laid-back feel. All rooms have a balcony with either garden, mountain or sea views. It is extremely clean with a nice shower, comfortable bed, mini-bar, and a bistro table on the balcony to enjoy your view. There is a nice pool with chairs and beach towels, a fitness room, bar and cafe. The best part is the location. You can walk anywhere in Menton to shop and eat. It is also less than a mile to walk to Italy and about 6 miles to Monaco. The staff was very helpful and friendly.Check in and check out was a breeze.
