This company apparently cares about nothing but profit. The emergency vet that euthanized my cat on Thanksgiving contracts with Agape. The cost was $500 just for the cremation, which through a non-emergency vet would be around $200. Because of the holiday I could not transport the body to a vet and so paid up. Then I was shown a folder of memorial urns and items I could buy. I was appalled. Grieving people do not make good choices, but usurious Agape thinks it can make more bucks by playing on our sorrow. But the real horror, after all that, was finding out my cat's cremains were being shipped through the post office--the cheapest way possible and so insulting. sending your pet home on a mail truck. I was able to get the cremains off the truck and to the vet, but for $500 I should have received Fed Ex kid glove treatment. I fault the vet clinic for using this greedy company. I have had other cats cremated and have never experienced such treatment. I just wonder if the ashes I get will be my cat's--some places take videos of their cremations, but I expect Agape has no proof the ashes are whose they say they are. Shame on them. read more

Let's start with they put my dog's ashes in the back of a UPS truck and made me sit around for 7 hours to sign for them. I'd have HAPPILY driven to the facility to retrieve them if given the option- which I was not. The thought of him in the back of the truck all day, bouncing around with people's online shopping orders made me sick. Then I get the ashes, and when I went to take 1/4 tsp to send away for memorial jewelry, it was nearly impossible to get 1/4 tsp of smooth ash as the container is FULL OF BIG BONE fragments! I cannot believe how lazy and uncaring this company is. Utterly heartbreaking experience. EDIT: I would like to note that a manager has called, twice, and offered a refund, additional mementos and to reprocess. As a grieving pet parent I trusted their choice and used this service, I requested a plaque be placed on his urn. Upon picking it up and looking at the materials in the bag I did not see the plaque. I called and emailed them to see what went wrong, their response was that the plaque "was in the bag". Indicating that it had been supplied and that "I" the grieving parent needed to place it myself. You folks grousing about that loose nameplate are being pedantic. How does the crematory know where and how you want the nameplate attached? Top? Front? Side Even the bottom? Did you indicate that in your documents? Was it even discussed on your documents? Did your veterinarian's office tell you how the ashes are returned and how YOU get to choose where and how the nameplate is affixed? Did you think that some folks don't want to attach the nameplate because they are burying the box of ashes and want the nameplate for a picture frame or other purpose? Here is an easy solution. Buck up and tell the folks handling your pet-- that is usually your veterinarian's office-- how you want the nameplate attached. The overwhelming majority of the errors at Agape are from a veterinary office, in my experience. In my business I personally examine every Agape order and have to correct my little morons about a third of the time. Incorrect spelling, incorrect descriptions, incorrect instructions, even incorrect labeling, have occured, which is why we have several layers of double-checking. But Agape should righfully assume thier instructions are correct from such sources. Just attach the nameplate yourself exactly where and how you like, as I have for my many pets a dozen times. More! I have used Agape for about 20 years now, after a local company wasbought out by a well-known and larger-than-you-imagine funeral conglomerate. I am sad they have recently been purchased by a conglomerate but the faces are mostly the same, the service is top notch and their prices are reasonable. For about what Agape charges, another similar Maryland operation takes several days to provide the service and provides only a cheap plastic container similar to a medicine bottle, and about as easy to open. Mangling the horse-owner's pet's name is a serious error but if EVERYBODY did it, that's mostly on the person who named the horse! read more

If I could leave negative stars, I absolutely would. My best friend has to say goodbye to her soul dog after a sudden decline due to the progression of an aggressive cancer. She trusted Agape with the care is her heart dogs remains. She ordered a circular urn, with a base which the name plate would be mounted on. Imagine her surprise when she received the urn with no base and a loose name plate. Apparently, they offered to send a base. Fantastic! I know nothing would be better than for someone who is in an incredible state of mourning to have to assemble her heart dogs final resting place herself, like it was a diy project from Michaels. I am beyond livid and appalled by the lack of compassion shown initially and that the response to fix the issue was "well, we can send you the base." I honestly am so aghast as a veterinary professional, that the only feelings I have are those of disgust and true distain. How dare they. To say this is an unprofessional and callous group of folks (that are supposed to help clients who are losing a beloved animal) would be an understatement. Our wonderful horse who was 37 years old, had to be euthanized and we were referred to this group for cremation services. We paid $2,000 dollars to cremate our horse and for that we had the person we discussed the details with consistently call her by the wrong name. Coincidentally and horrifyingly, it was my best friends name. I corrected the woman 3 times and explained that she was inadvertently using my best friends name not my horses name and asked her to PLEASE stop it, explaining this was very upsetting. I was already upset over losing my horse. This woman seemed annoyed at being corrected like it was some small unimportant detail. Then, I received a call today from a different woman about returning my horse's cremains and SHE started using my best friends name not my horses name. I explained to her that she was using the wrong name. I checked if she had the spelling of the name wrong and NO, it was spelled correctly. Then she said defensively she was "just doing her job." It went down hill from there. I asked her questions regarding the amount of weight and size the box and the cost of shipping. She couldn't answer the questions and transferred me to someone else who...wait for it...Used my best friends name instead of my horses name, AFTER I explained to him what had happened with the name mix up. It is not that similar a name and starts with a completely different letter. I AGAIN checked for the spelling and he said, Oh sorry. We do have the spelling correct. "We will give you our basic urn for no charge." What the actual blank? If they can't even get your pets name correct, do you think you are going to get your pets actual ashes? How do you think they handled her body? With respect? Doubtful! Avoid this place...and ATTENTION VETS OUT THERE....be aware of how they are treating your clients and stop recommending them. After reading all the other ONE star reviews, I see I'm not alone in my experience with this company as callous and inept. With the name of Agape Pet Services (Agape being "the highest form of love," and "the love of God for man and of man for God"), you would think they would show some of it in basic respect with attention to BASIC detail. Sorry, Agape, but one of your neighboring pet cremation services charges a fraction of that for an attended cremation, and has the same base price. Let me say first that you obviously do not want to think about this time for your pet. I had literally never thought about what to do with my dog's remains before she passed. The animal hospital where we were used Agape, and I just sort of went through the motions and agreed to everything. But after the fact, I looked up Agape and saw they had a lot of extra services that you could request. I got my dog's paw and snout prints, in both ink and ceramic. Their services were quick - my dog and the products arrived earlier than they estimated me over the phone, everything seemed reasonably priced, and the products were all very nice. They are lovely reminders of my pup. I recommend them - during such a stressful time, you need to pick a company who you know will handle your pet's death with respect and make things easier for you. read more

We were devastated after having to put our cat down earlier this year. I'd never had a pet cremated before and I was expecting to get him back in a plastic bag or a cardboard box and having to go through the ordeal of finding a box for his remains or burying him. It took me over a month before I could bring myself to pick him up. I'm not saying that I was "delighted" after I finally did, but it definitely took away some of the pain. Losing a pet can be one of the hardest things to experience... my 12 year old cat Marisol recently passed away from cancer. I had her euthanized at Friendship Animal Hospital in DC. They sent Marisol to Agape where they cremated Marisol, put her in a lovely wooden box with a gold plaque saying "In loving memory of MARISOL" and they included a clay imprint of her nose. For an extra $35 I got a clay imprint of her pay prints as well. Both clay imprints came in a lovely leather "book" and all were delivered in a velvet bag. They also include a very kind card. The staff at Agape (particularly Patty and Jasmine) were very attentive and compassionate. I had several calls with them and they always called me back right away to follow up, throughout the whole process. Patty assisted in trying to resolve an issue regarding a bad experience I had at the emergency room where my dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge. A technician in the ER at Metropolitan on Rockville Pike ignored verbal and written instructions and separated my dog from her bed/blanket/stuffed animal, which I wanted my dog to be cremated with. When I discovered my dog was transported to the crematorium in a body bag *without* her things, Patty/Agape put the cremation on hold and made calls to the ER to arrange for my dog's items to be delivered to Agape before cremation. Again Metropolitan ER goofed up and set aside things that belonged to a different dog (**apparently Metropolitan ER is separating all cats/dogs from personal items their grieving families wanted cremated with them**). It took 3 days for Metropolitan ER to locate my dog's items, which I picked up myself (they handed them to me in a trash bag). I delivered the items to Agape myself. Patty and Jasmine greeted me warmly as soon as I walked in the door. Patty assured me she would personally bundle my dog in her bed, blanket with 2 small stuffed animals, and then she expedited the cremation immediately thereafter. My dog was delivered to my home a few days later. I hope anyone who reads this review will be mindful of the fact that veterinarians/animal hospitals **may or may not be carrying out your last wishes** for your pets. Please make follow up calls to the vet/ER and crematorium to make sure your pet's sentimental items really are being documented and itemized on check-in forms, or on their computer systems, and transported with your pet - so that Agape can cross-check and verify with you. I was lucky, I was able to fix my situation (with Patty's/Agape's help), but most families who do not make follow up calls and trust blindly don't realize their pets are not being kept together with any blankets, stuffed animals or beds you wish them to be cremated with. I want to thank Agape for helping me through the process, keeping me informed all along the way, and easing my grief with their patience, kindness and compassion. read more

My husband and I attended our sweet doggy's individual cremation. We were able to say one last goodbye to him in a private room. Chris carefully and compassionately outlined what we could witness if we wanted and what to expect. The latter was quite helpful. While the cremation took place, the urn was inscribed. Mocha's ashes were delivered in the most beautiful wooden urn that was placed in a blue velvet bag. The urn even has a place to put Mocha's picture and included a "in loving memory of Mocha" brass plate. We also received a paw print in a frame with Mocha's name on the frame. I want to let folks know that you can trust Agape to treat your pet with care and dignity and provide you with outstanding service. I recommend, if you can, to go to Agape to visit with your pet and view the cremation. Agape will charge a fee of $125 - $200, depending if you want to view the entire cremation process, which can take up to three hours. The fee covers the cost of their time, effort, and the fact that they halt all other cremations and outfit the cremation room with curtains for you. I'm very hard to please and the Agape staff exceeded my expectations. Here's our story. My wife and our two sons lost our beloved English Lab, Fred, on Sunday and had him cremated with Agape on Tuesday morning. The LifeCentre in Leesburg (VA), where we lost Fred, recommended that we use Agape. The cost to retrieve Fred from the LifeCentre, cremate him, and place him a memorial box with ink paw prints was significantly less than expected, so I was skeptical, plus we wanted to make sure that we received our dog's ashes. Agape was outstanding from the first phone call until we left their facility. We drove from Leesburg, VA to Boonesville, MD and arrived 30 minutes before our 9 a.m. appointment. The Agape staff greeted us and took care of us right away, no delay, explained what would happen, answered all of our questions, and brought Fred to us on a pillowed bed with blankets. The Agape staff were very empathetic, you could tell they really cared. Agape gave us a private room to spend as much time as we wanted with Fred, which I'm so glad we did. Fred didn't look any different than when he was sleeping, they took such good care of him. We watched the staff place Fred in his own cremation chamber, left, and came back when Agape texted us. The process took about three hours because Fred was so big. We paid $125 to visit with the Agape staff and learn the details of the cremation process, visit with Fred for as long as we wanted, witness Fred being placed in the chamber to verify that we're receiving our dog, and our dog only. And, then being able to bring him immediately home. The $125 is a small price to pay for the individual attention, extra time with your pet, and the private viewing. Since we were there, the Agape staff stopped all other cremations, fitted drapes around the cremation room, and dedicated their time and efforts solely to us. read more
