Essentially this is a place where pretty much all aspects are covered at quite affordable prices. Very simply pictures can be mounted on to a whole host of different materials such as thin board or canvas, they can be framed in a selection of custom or conventional frames or framed with mirrors. Any style, any size - these guys can take care of all your printing and framing needs. Being framers too they have some pretty awesome stuff in their windows for sale. Took my print in and Charlie (the proprietor) helped me choose a surround that would compliment not only my print but also my home décor. The job was done in a week as he needed to get some more materials in but it was well worth the wait. Not only a framers but he sells original artwork and mirrors in the shop. Well worth a visit if you're on this side of town...or even if you're not.

From the outside you might be forgiven for thinking this is a frivolous, girly shop for bored housewives and old ladies but oh how wrong you would be! There is a large selection of sketchbooks, drawing paper, paintbrushes and Daler-Rowney paints - all essential for art students and established artists alike. The store itself is lined with cards and displays that have been created using products from the shop, such as decopache kits, rubber stamps, ink and stencils. The only thing that limits the possibilities of the products in this shop is your own imagination. Price are reasonable and there is also a framing department at the back of the shop where you can take in your masterpieces to hang with pride.

They also stock resources for those of us who can't quite decide what hobby would suit us best, or for those of us that would like to be a bit more creative but aren't exactly sure how. A full range of magazines is available with comprehensive advice on hand. And just for the record: I'm in the market for a knitted toilet roll cover with a Cindy-type doll miraculously emerging from the middle. The window display is well laid out visually to entice you with a range of pictures and also gifts that the store sells. To my surprise they have those cards but much more besides - they have lots of different styles of card, with the ruder/younger market near the back and the 'traditional' sort of cards that your nan buys at the front. In addition to the cards there is a few shelves on the right hand side of the shop with Thorntons goods for sale - great for an extra gift or a last minute gesture if you've forgotten an occasion and had to run to the local shops for a token gift! They also have the separate truffles and licquer chocolates under glass at the counter which you can choose from. All in all it's saved me many a trip to The Mall/Broadmead to buy a decent card so you should have a look before travelling further for birthday cards.
