Walked out thinking I would take a Taxi to my hotel close to the City Center. Taxi driver mentioned it would be almost 200 Euros and suggested going back and taking a shuttle bus. Ok, that math works much better as it was 19 Euros one way. Comfortable coach bus that took about an hour to take passengers to Brussels Central station. I didn't see too many amenities outside of the Terminal. If you have time and not in a rush to get to the City Center, will do. That said, I would pick BRU as the preferred airport.

I tried every access point with no luck and pushed the assistance button but no one answered after nearly 20 minutes so had to pull a ticket and pay another 110 euro when leaving after our trip. I contacted customer service twice before getting a response and, after providing them with proof of multiple payments, they only offered me a parking credit for the next time I fly out of this airport which is 4 hours away from where I live and won't likely ever use again. I insisted on a full refund but never heard back from them. Do not recommend giving them your business. There are other places to park that are cheaper and nearly as close to the terminals.

There were plenty of various restaurants, working areas and seating areas. The restrooms were very clean. After claiming the luggage, follow the signs to customs. Going through customs was to bad..... the signs will direct you which line to go to. Approximately, 15 minutes later, I was at the custom gate. After answering a few questions, I was on my way. Instead of taking a train, I decided to take an Uber to the hotel. Just follow the signs for the car sharing, taxi and bus area. By the time I got to the designated location, the car was with a few minutes. I didn't find this airport to be very difficult.

Unlike in Germany, it appeared that Brussels had not yet implemented the new customs system at arrivals so non EU citizens queued in one line. EU citizens zipped through with the electronic pass gates. However when it was my turn with the agent I only had to scan the fingers on my right hand, answered a question what do I do for a living and that was it. Less than a couple minutes surprisingl. Baggage claim was right after and then the exit. Very good signage that directed people to the bus, train, parking, etc. When departing Brussels, follow the signs to the appropriate terminal if not checking luggage. Electronic gates required a boarding pass scan to validate trip and gain entrain to the security screening area. At least multiple lines were open so it flowed well. Plastics baggies needed to hold your small liquid containers), water bottles emptied, belts removed but shoes stayed on. Immigration was next and much more efficient on departure. US citizens accessed the electronic gates with just a passport scan and photo. It's not 100% functional as I was told to keep trying gates until my passport was accepted (4th one was the charm). Passport still had to be inspected and stamped afterwards but that was quick. Overall 50-50 rating based on this experience. Hopefully arrivals will be much better after full implementation of the EES screening process.

This airport has a lot of connectivity to other airports throughout Europe and north Africa. We recently caught a direct flight from Eindhoven airport into Marrakesh, Morocco for our seventh marriage anniversary trip and it was so very convenient for us. Some of the boarding procedures struck me as odd because since this is a very small airport, you are made to stand outside and walk to your plane. I have done this another small airports but we were made to stand outside in the freezing rain for a long time due to slight miscommunications before we got the green signal to board our plane. If they could iron out these small inefficiencies, I would give this airport five stars.

Most of the airport's strengths are related to its small size. In the very tiny but well designed terminal, there are only a few gates, a couple of shops, and the exit area. It's really minimalist but this allows you to move around easily and never feel rushed or stressed. Also, the service here is really damn good. Despite being in the land of tedious service otherwise known as France, the employees at Lille airport are incredibly courteous and helpful, and also smile! wow, taht's a radical change from other French airports. Thirdly, the public transport system, while limited to a two-per-hour bus between the airport and the Lille-Europe Train Station and taxis, does it's job. I do have major complaints regarding the minimalistic refreshment options airside and the god-awful wifi, or seeming lack of. There are two options for wifi: one free-for-15-minutes that does the bare minimum and is slow, and another one which you must pay for, but somehow does not work unless you have "specific certificates to access it". WHAT? In this day and age, such a type of malfunctioning wifi is aberrant. Regarding the available refreshments airside, Lille Airport is a disgrace and a joke. Why? ALL the food stand and bars are landside, and they total a measly 3. There is NOTHING in the boarding area except for coffee makers and some machines. I could love this airport, but it has way too many flaws in its current state. A few upgrades and a strategic reorganization would be most welcome.
