We are truly blessed to have found such a safe, loving environment for our children. The campus is beautiful and the equipment is new. Kids can really be just kids. They run around and play. We love watching our kids actually moving their bodies and working out. They plead to go to afterschool camp every day. The class sizes are amazing. There are assistant teachers in each classroom. If a student needs more assistance they can easily get it, instead of struggling alone. Dr. Chun is an amazing Principal and runs the school like a well oiled machine. The character values they instill Caring Attitude Respect Gratitude Perseverance Self Control are amazing. I wish they had a high school too.

This school does not focus on academic rigor. There is no homework or grades until 4th grade. The amount of regression in education we witnessed was sad, anger inducing, and extremely upsetting. We wasted a year of tuition and our child's time and would NEVER recommend this school for children who are not special needs or have other socialization issues.

We were given a list of non-public schools to choose from during a time when a public school wasn't the right fit for her. After touring several different non-public school options, CLU was honestly the only choice I felt comfortable with. Compared to the other options, it was a smaller, more nurturing environment for her to heal and grow within, which was exactly the type of space I was hoping to find for her. She's made so much positive progress during her time at CLU that she will be transitioning back into a public school setting starting next school year. A huge part of that transition being possible is the safe, loving community that CLU has provided for her over the past few years. As for the negative reviews on this page, it seems like most of them come from families who have never attended CLU, or who interacted with CLU's previous leadership team. My daughter attended CLU under the previous leadership (led by a woman named Ginny), and now attends under the new leadership team, lead by Jen Mize. While I never had an issue with anything under Ginny's leadership, I will say that there have been so many wonderful improvements and expansions that have come from Jen's leadership so far. Everything feels much more organized, and Jen has really excelled at building a warm, mindful space centered around inclusion and care. Every time I go to the school for an event or volunteer opportunity, the space is filled with love from the entire community. As happy as I am for my girl as she moves forward on her path, I'm a little heartbroken at the thought of leaving this community. I'll have to see if she can come back to visit. :)

Most just aren't given clear guidance on what to ask for or what their child is actually entitled to. What stands out to me about Rise is how parents are supported in really understanding what's happening and how to advocate in a way that feels realistic and manageable. Having a clear plan and next steps takes a process that can feel chaotic and makes it more actionable. Another strength working with Rise is that April has firsthand experience working within the school system, meaning she understands how things actually function behind the scenes and can guide families in a way that's well-informed and practical. If you're feeling stuck or unsure where to begin with the IEP and 504 process, Rise provides the kind of support that can help you feel more confident and less alone in navigating it.

We have been treated like family over the years - our children feel safe and known by their teachers and any questions or requests to the administration or teachers have been promptly and thoughtfully addressed. Our oldest child and middle school graduate, who now attends public high school, feels like she was well prepared academically and personally by teachers who challenged her to think critically and by expectations to be kind and respectful. They treated her pretty decent so I'm not gonna bitch and moan about the joint. I'll let her do that. We saw lots of peeps, students, staff, etc., come and go over the years. But it has since changed, and significantly at that. With "no child left behind" comes a lot of student mainstreaming, a reduction of attendance, staff and of course, opportunity. But... They service all abilities / all ages and for the most part, have a great staff (hence, the wifey), lol. Plus, it's our polling place when the time comes. One question... Why my pic Yelp, why mine? LOL

I wondered why the teacher was giving false statements about withholding my daughter's voice output device for over two years with, "She doesn't have homework" Our Harbor Regional Counselor interjected he saw her get off the school bus and go straight to her homework desk without being prompted. In the second year of the IDR/Amendment meeting (falsified as a new agreed upon IEP compliments of Gavin) She recanted this statement with, "She does have homework but doesn't do it". The next year the overseer of the IEP team (not a member) straight out said, "Frankly, I don't think you will charge the device overnight". "What would the teacher do?" I responded, "The phone I call you with all my concerns with is charged every day and night". Further, I have to let the public know their children are being rounded up together as a whole in class for only minutes of so-called therapy for speech. It is more minutes than the 10 minutes on Mondays for the whole class with only my daughter's device (still withheld from Alina and family) and the entire school. They closed the doors on us because they know these therapies aren't being done correctly according to the contractual obligation of the IEP. Looks like promotions are in the air from the District because Tina M. (I call her the Tina 9000) won't be back and left the desk for her protégé Gavin (Tina Jr) Mary Jullienne was rewarded for her conduct with a raise and a position of vice principal. I can find peace in knowing at least I know these culprits and I can "Tell" them. The upcoming newer versions are not going to slip ever. And I pray that one day "I'll be Back". And so will parent's rights to educational decision making

But this time we do feel the urge to review and recommend Discovery World, the best childcare and preschool in South Bay Area! We originally toured DW in 2022 when our daughter was 18 months old. But because of their waitlist at that time, we decided to go to another daycare in this area. A huge mistake we really wish we hadn't made (a terrible experience for our little one and us parents too. We had to pull her out there after only one month). Fortunately our baby was able to join DW in 2023/08. Everything is different here. Experienced teachers, friendly staff, fun activities, and so much more! What really impressed us and drew contrast to other preschool is, how loving and caring everyone is at DW. Our daughter was shy at drop off. Every morning, the teachers (thank you Ms. Julie and Ms. Iana) would come greet her and hug her to help her ease into the classroom!!! Every teacher and staff knows every child very well, chats and plays with them. Teachers from different classrooms all learn about every student's hobbies (thanks Ms. Marni for reading "panda book" to our baby) and even their stuffie (they know the names of my daughter's TY "Jenni" kitties:-)). DW communicates with parents all the time (photos and videos every day, several teacher-parent conferences every year). DW offers great curriculum and the teacher execute very well. And DW organize the best activities (playing basketball at The LAB is my daughter's favorite). There are so much more to say about DW... We can't thank you enough Ms. Liana and your whole DW team for the amazing work in our little ones' early education!!!

Discovery World was such a blessing during his earliest years; he thrived and had wonderful relationships with all his teachers, who always took sincere interest in his well-being and development. They communicated with us often and were always more than happy to give us updates and anecdotes about his day. Discovery World also prepared him well for the move to "real" school, working with him on academic development (e.g., recognizing letters and numbers) and on social development (e.g., articulating feelings and resolving conflict). We've been so happy with Discovery World that we got our daughter on the waitlist before she was born. She's now attending as well, and whenever we pick her up our son's former teachers always ask about him. We're grateful to have found such a wonderful place for our children to spend their preschool years and very much appreciate the thoughtfulness and dedication of the Discovery World teachers and staff.
