My father had severe facial nerve pain after cancer surgery to remove lymph nodes in his neck. Nothing seemed to help, and with his advancing age, I did not want him to continue using powerful narcotic pain relievers. Dr. Bryce treated my dad with one method that provided temporary relief. The second method totally eliminated the pain! My dad was thrilled, and I was so very grateful to Dr. Bryce. He was so compassionate and caring towards my dad. I highly recommend Dr. Bryce for pain management treatment but wish some people didn't have to wait to get an appointment with him. My dad got in fairly quickly because of his condition and age.

This is in a diverse neighborhood, which is great, and that is part of their claim to fame. But with no weekend or evening hours, they do a poor job of serving the intended population. Working families often need to run errands nights and weekends. Working families often work 9 to 5 (at least). Come on, UW Health!

PT didn't help, so I went to Jed at Madison Manual Therapy. He was extremely attentive and thorough. He explained what he was doing and what his different theories were. He attempted various manual therapy techniques. In the end, he could not help me and it later turned out to be a bone problem that Jed could not have addressed. What impressed me so much is that Jed told me on the 2nd visit that he didn't think he could help me. I think most other practitioners (such as the PT I saw) would have wasted far more of my time and money trying to address an issue they could not fix. The other impressive aspect of Jed's practice is that he really understands the mechanical workings of ALL the interconnected components of the body better than any medical practitioner with whom I can recall ever having spoken. Tendons, ligaments, bones, muscles, organs, arteries, nerves, and all the other fascia and tissues that connect everything and keep it working. Every other specialty seems to focus on one or two systems; they know something about the other parts, but not much - it's an incomplete view. Osteopathy takes a much more comprehensive view and Jed is good at what he does.

CRRRRRRRRRACK!…read more That's the sound my back made when Dr. Schupp adjusted it (and let me tell you, it was necessary). I had been going to PT for several months and needed to set up an appointment as soon as possible, as some residual lower back pain was coming back. Nathan at Mindful Motion referred me to Dr. Schupp, and the office accommodated my last minute request with an appointment the very next day! Dr. Schupp asked me about the history of my back pain and was extremely thorough in making sure I was comfortable with all of the adjustments. He asked me over and over whether everything was alright and I said yes, please, I will do whatever it takes to fix this back problem. Sessions are generally 60 minutes for initial appointments and 15-20 minutes for follow-ups. I left feeling like a train that had finally been put back on its rails! I'd totally recommend Dr. Schupp for any back pair or injuries.

I have ups and downs with the Neurology at the UW Hospital. It's a Level 4 Epilepsy hospital (I…read morethink one of only 3 in WI) so the equipment is top notch and the doctors are very well-trained and extremely knowledgeable, so you really can't beat that. The issue is the ratio of patients to doctors is so oversaturated that it's tough to get 100% of the care you need and pretty tough to get an appointment -sometimes 4-6 months. Most end up being virtual video appointments in order to get through the long line, but it can be a nice option if you live further. The scheduling team is definitely on-the-ball calling patients on the cancelation list. If you catch the call right away you can probably get a sooner appointment! The Neurology team is relatively fast at replying to MyChart messages, which is awesome! If something is really pressing and you're willing to wait on hold, you may be able to reach a nurse via phone too. I give them 4 stars though because if you stress that things are really starting to effect the quality of life; the doctors are quick to order MRIs, PETs and studies. I did a 6 day stay in the EMU and the care of the attending doctors, RNs, MAs, PAs and techs was nothing short phenomenal. The EMU is a pretty miserable place but the teamwork, communication and care was fantastic. Top-notch equipment. Lovely room. Really great food, everything can be ordered in advance via an iPad. I've worked with Dr. Felton, Dr. Gardon, Dr Laquer and Therese Aschkenase NP. All in all, there are big pros and cons to UW Neurology but it's the best care you're going to find as long as you're patient for appointments!

I've had everything done from physicals, lab work, physical/cognitive therapy, specialized treatment plans and about anything else you can imagine-- including surgeries contracted through UW Health Systems. Yes, there are preapprovals required for certain types of concerns, but I've never had an issue with paperwork going and has been done with little to no effort on my part. My doctor is Kyoko Felland and I ABSOLUTELY love her attention to detail and focus on my overall health. She always knows me and my concerns without having to look up my chart. I enjoy seeing her so much, I'd consider her a friend if it wasn't awkward. :) My husband had another PCP but after my stellar experience with her, decided to make the witch to GHC as well. Disappointing Experience - Inflexible Policies & Rude Staff…read more I recently had a frustrating experience at Capital Clinic that has led me to take my business elsewhere. I scheduled an appointment for Saturday, March 8th, at 11:20 AM due to serious breathing issues--potential pneumonia or bronchitis--on top of moderate to severe asthma. Despite my medical condition, I was turned away for being just nine minutes late due to unexpected traffic, likely caused by a UW event. By the time the front desk staff located my appointment in the system, it was 11:31 AM, and I was informed--rather rudely--that I had "violated" their 10-minute late policy and would not be seen until 2:00 PM. No consideration was given to my urgent respiratory issues, the traffic conditions, or the fact that we drove 30 minutes to get there. Given the clinic's inflexible policies and unhelpful staff, I will be taking my healthcare needs elsewhere. UW urgent care facilities not only have more accommodating scheduling policies, but they are also covered by my insurance. If you're looking for compassionate, patient-focused care, I'd recommend avoiding Capital Clinic.

Surgeon is Ahmed Al Niaimi. It looks like he's since fled to Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY. How he got another job is beyond me but the corruption never ends with these places so I can't say I'm that surprised.

In October 2023 I went to SSM Health Dean for a Mohs procedure to remove a basal cell cancer on my…read moreface. The dermatologist removed the basal cell and then I went to the SSM Aesthetic center so the plastic surgeon could close the site. I expected skilled care and a good outcome. Unfortunately, my experience was far from that. The procedure left me with unnecessary scarring and complications. I sent photos of the botched site and returned to the surgeon's office in fall 2024 seeking advice. They recommended a scar revision with a different plastic surgeon. That appointment was scheduled for late February 2025. I went to the appointment. After waiting 45 minutes, I had to leave. I was told at the scheduling desk that this surgeon often double books. If I wanted to reschedule, the next available appointment would be in May. I typically don't leave reviews, but people deserve to know what kind of experience and outcome they might expect. I regret choosing this practice for such an important procedure, especially on my face. If you are considering Mohs surgery, I strongly recommend researching other doctors who have a proven track record of excellent results and compassionate patient care. You might want to avoid SSM Health's plastic surgeons.
