It was not a gun safety course, it is geared toward older adults who already know how to handle a handgun. And for that it was excellent. The hands on may have been a bit intimidating for some, but for me, it was money well spent. The course was $80, took almost 6 hours, and you were never falling asleep. If you are looking for course requirements for a CWP in Florida good for most of the Southeast, this was a great way to spend the morning. There are a variety of times that the course is offered. It is a small venue, small classes, and excellent experienced instructor. Retired law enforcement he had even written up one of the attendees for a motor vehicle violation a few years ago!!!!!!

He also used expletive language at me when I could hear what he asked the first time. If you are a gun person in the Florida keys I'd recommend going to key largo or just up to homestead rather than dealing with someone this unpleasant.

The owners of the place really must have forgotten how to tell time or are just inbred cretins because apparently closing at 6pm really means 5:25pm. Getting there at 5:15pm, they would only give me 10 minutes in the range despite literally every sign saying they close at 6. Why close at 6, why not at 5, or maybe 4, why even open at all? The sky's the limit when you don't give a shit. I would sooner drive 3+ hours to the mainland then ever go back and use their range. As a proud black business owner this is no way to run a business and I am truly appalled.

However, when I asked whether another time slot was available, an employee with a beard and glasses told me that, because of my attitude, he would not offer me one. I found that response unprofessional. Afterward, I spent about 10 minutes looking at the firearms for sale, but no one approached me or offered to help. I was interested in guying one of them, but I eventually left because I could not get assistance. I came in intending to use the range and potentially make a purchase. The way I was treated left me disappointed with the customer service. There are plenty of shooting ranges in Miami where customers are treated with respect. After this experience, I have no desire to return to this one.

I joined mainly to use the 500-yard range, but too often it's closed when I have time to shoot. Today, I drove there (half an hour drive from Miami) and was told that my membership had expired on September 1st. I had no reminder, no text or email. I was also informed that the veteran membership has increased from 150 to 200 a year. What frustrated me most was the lack of customer service effort. Considering I've been a member for over two years, and my membership had only recently expired and I had already driven all the way there, I would have expected something like, "Since you're already here, let me check with the manager and see if we can allow you to shoot today." But before you came back, you'll need to renew your membership. Even if the employee didn't have the authority herself, simply asking a manager would have shown some effort to accommodate and retain a long time customer. HTC also offers non-member public range option, but that wasn't mentioned either. Granted, that wouldn't give me access to the members only 500-yard range, but at least offering alternatives would have demonstrated some customer service. Between the unreliable availability of the 500-yard range, the $50 membership increase, no renewal notification, and the lack of any attempt to find a reasonable solution when I arrived, the membership is simply no longer worth it for me. If you're considering joining primarily for the 500-yard range, I'd recommend checking its availability very carefully before paying for a membership.
