Sand, bricks, they can get in what they don't stock; various renders and cements, some with colour premixed and some without. Plaster, textured coatings, accessories of every description and then all those little things that you require. Sand paper, screwdrivers, tape, OH&S signs. Mini trucks for shipping materials. Paint. I'm tempted to say "You name it they've got it," but I will not go that far just in case you don't get total satisfaction from them as a one stop shop for your building needs. Having said that I think they provide a service polite and helpful enough to be patient enough to have them order things in for you rather than dash of to some warehouse style enterprise. Be aware I have listed the website, because they do have one, but Anthony tells me it is under construction right at the moment and I am writing this in early December 2011, so don't get all testy if you go to the website only to find it is not working until at least January 2012. Testiness after January is reasonable, but I would think Anthony would be a bit testy himself if it is not fixed by then, so maybe just give him a call.

I know for a lot of people, Bunnings is synonymous with hardware. In the same way that people who…read moreshop at woolworths and think that they are getting the best price possible just won't visit a foodland, a lot of Bunnings customers are loyal to the point of self-punishment. I on the other hand, would prefer to spend my money at somewhere like Banner Mitre 10. The first reason is that like Woolies, Coles and Dan Murphy's, Bunnings are owned by one of those dominating behemoths (in this case Wesfarmers) which squeeze their supply chain, their staff and everyone else involved in the process. Like Woolies and Coles, what you end up with is not the best products, but rather products with high margins that can be bought in bulk, and if they break it just goes in the bin and you get a new one, and a new one, and another new one. Don't get me wrong... Bunnings has its place. It's a good place to go for say Stanley tools, Hills products etc, but if you want a good chainsaw, like the Stihl I bought on the weekend, there's no way you going to get it at Bunnings. What you're going to get is a piece of crap Ozito or something for $100 less which you can only cut 2x4 pine with before it craps itself. Now, onto my Banner Mitre 10 review... I used to work for these guys about 9 years ago while at uni and they are a great family run business. They treated us well as staff and had great discounts for staff and end of year parties. I felt like I was part of the family. After a few years living too far from the store, I've moved back fairly close to the area, so I popped in to look at ladders. They have a great selection of Bailey ladders and don't stock the cheap crap that Bunnings do. They also price matched a quite ridiculously low price I had for the chainsaw from one of my work's suppliers, so I'll definitely be back. They have a great trade section and friendly staff. What I'm trying to get at here is that there are other options apart from Bunnings for hardware/tools and home improvement products. Give these guys a go because they know their stuff, have better brands and service and are family run.

Gardening is my secret passion and Mile End has a brilliant range of plants and very competitive prices. But best of all they actually have people working for them that appear to enjoy their jobs!! I have been approached on numerous occasions by staff members answering my silent "damsel in distress" attempts to get pots off shelves, pick up heavy bags of potting mix or whatever strenuous tasks these guys make look easy. They will even carry stuff to your car if you need them too! OMG customer service circa 1970! Plus you can return anything even a pathetic dead (formerly living) plant purchased 11 months and 29 days previously if you have a receipt - absolutely exceptional!!!! Add to that the extremely knowledgeable hardware and gardening gurus who are willing to offer unsolicited advice on just about anything home handy person related and it's a match made in heaven!! True story - a friend arrived home at 4.00pm after a Sunday afternoon's shopping to find her partner had decided he had the skills to replace their 1950's toilet. He didn't and hadn't bought a new one. After 2 days without a toilet and no sign that he was going to admit that he was an idiot (surprise surprise) my friend went to Bunnings (Mile End) and got coached in how to do the job herself and supplied with everything she needed to do it! Derek's is a gloomy and cluttered store on Payneham Road…read more The front exterior wall and much of the interior is strewn with mirrors of all shapes and sizes refelecting the surroundings and the resultant reflections in an odd manner. There are many different frames constructed and otherwise throughout the interior of the shop, but in none of the ordered fashion you will find in most framing places. There are some very nice frames here, antique and gold leaf, as well as many much less appealing. As well as picture frames and mirrors, Derek's has some fireplaces as well.

Not overpriced, super sized and wogtastic. From plaster archways to gold lamps, iron outdoor gates through to claw foot bath tubs you can find some McMansion suitable furnishings here for more than you'd buy them in a De Lights or Bunnings. And then of course this gigantic "salvage yard" houses their most prized possessions - the 8 life size Elvis', robotic dinosaur collections and Blues Brothers car hanging from the roof. Hang on...what? I honestly don't know how many financial transactions this place actually achieves but I would suspect the foot traffic of gawkers would outweigh sales 20 to 1. Unless of course you too have a spare $600-2000 to spend adding that finishing touch of a moving T-Rex into your lounge room with its 10m high ceiling, archway and marble floors. But who doesn't I guess?
