Above average fast food style Mexican. The service is great and they remember you on each visit. Drive thru is a plus since we tend to grab a bunch of food for dinner to share. We lived near an Adobe in & out for years before we tried it... which saved us money for those years! Now we love it! Their wet burrito meat sauce is delicious and their shredded chicken had great flavor/spice to it. Omg, once we discovered their chicken cheese dip, we get it every time! It's soo good! A tad bit spicy - just perfect. Their drive thru menu does not have much description... I don't think I knew about their chicken cheese dip until they had it on the big sign out front once. Is this authentic Mexican cuisine? No. Obviously no. I scoff at those who take off stars or review Adobe poorly because of it. *scoff*. Fresh, fast, and down right flavorful. Need a quick taco fix, badda bing badda boom take care of that here. Need yo'self a giant burrito smothered in sauce, shazams the man get it here. Ordered a bean burrito with no cheese- after taking a bite I noticed the burrito was LOADED with cheese. I do NOT eat dairy and have horrible reactions when I eat it so this was completely maddening. I don't think it's very complicated to order a burrito without cheese but they couldn't figure it out. Disappointed is an understatement as this place is one of my favorites- but I guess I learned my lesson. Local fast food, so it's fast service, but tastes fresh instead of freeze dried. The shredded chicken is fantastic and I've often tried to replicate it at home. I'm close, but it's not spot on, yet. Beans are great. They don't skimp on cheese. The house made tortilla chips are some of my favorite of all time. Ground beef is ok; often very greasy. I actually knocked a star off because I can't recommend anything with ground beef. Had the deluxe Burrito, wet - I couldn't get enough. Authentic Mexican cheese brings a nice salty blend to the wet carne sauce. Had a chicken taco and it was slightly spicy, very good. Try to buy the beef taco and it was OK. Will be going back. read more

The place was dead and yet there were uncleared tables and lettuce on the floor. The taco meat was very unseasoned and even had an old hamburger meat smell. The red sauce tasted a bit fermented as well. When inquiring about the bean dip the front counter employee was unaware of the ingredients and replied " I know know bc I didn't make it". Oh Adobe, I miss you so. Adobe used to be the take out portion of a large pink cement adobe looking building directly across the street (now home to a lovely GVSU parking lot). The food is more traditional than Taco Bell, but not by much. The chicken is shredded and wonderful. The enchiladas are the best I have have had at a fast food place. Cheese is plentiful on everything. Late night drive thru is always packed after the bars let out. Also busy during lunch. If you are at the Downtown campus it is not to be missed. read more

I love Adobe. Their ground beef is the best. I have eaten here several times and they definitely give you what you pay for when you order. The portion sizes are huge. Their beans and cheese are so.....good. My only complaint with the beans and cheese is not enough cheese sometimes. Sometimes they just throw a sloppy scoop in the container. I cringe at the thought of returning here ever again. The chips which would taste decent have more seasoned salt then ever should be allowed, absolutely nasty. The salsa is so plain it feels like just eating canned tomatoes. They also put way too much cheese on all their products, but it's probably to hide their worthless beef. Just moved to the area from the east coast. Looking for something quick for lunch and ran accross this location on Leonard street today. Used the drive thru....I think this mexican restaurant needs some mexicans. Ordered the deluxe wet burrito. Very bland and lacking meat and beans. Appears to be mostly lettuce and tortilla. Even after adding jalepeno's and two hot sauce containers it tasted more like lasagna than anything. All for $8.50. Before I pulled away, I checked the bag and realize that they don't include chips. Asked for some to the tune of $1.95 for a quart size zip lock. (probably .30 cents worth) All in all, probably the worst lunch I've eaten. I'd write more, but I'm heading for the bathroom. Moving from Nevada where authentic Mexican cuisine can be found everywhere to Michigan where its not so much, Adobe is quickly becoming one of my favorite places for lunch. So far this is as close to authentic as I have found. I am sure there are more places but with the location being so close to work, I tend to visit here often. The employees are ALWAYS happy, and not that fake happy, they really love their job and remember you which seems impossible since they always have a steady flow of customers. My favorite is their Chicken Chili, perfectly seasoned to not be too spicy. The food is reasonably priced, comes out fast, and above all is delicious!! I would recommend this place to anyone. My only recommendations would be to add some tamales and actual nachos to the menu, but other than that, I am going to continue to make this one of my favorite places to eat. read more

Went for lunch last week and wanted a side of beans, price is $3.50. I thought that was really high but I was in the mood so why not? Anyway, don't waste your money. I got a narrow container of canned refried beans with a bunch of cheese on top. It wasn't good and it certainly wasn't worth the money. I went to their Leonard location. It was way over priced for what you receive. The first trip the food was mediocre and the service was terrible. I figured I would give them a second chance. The second time around the service was still terrible. What really set me off was the fact that I spent $30 on the food and was given 5 units of hot sauce. When I asked for an additional hot sauce I was then charged .25 cents. If I am going to be over charged for my food then you can throw in the sauce. I can not believe I was nickeled and dimed over the hot sauce at $2 a taco. With how much I was spending and the amount of food I purchased they could have thrown in the sauce for free. I will not return and take my business to another one of the several mexican restaurants in the area. read more

We never got to try the food, so can't speak to that, but the service before entering left much to be desired. I was visiting my daughter from out of town, and we went for lunch early Sunday. We parked near the side entrance with plans to grab a coffee across the street then order lunch here. As we were nearing the sidewalk, a guy, (owner maybe) who was leaf blowing, yelled, "Gals, this isn't parking for over there." My daughter responded that we were coming back over after getting a coffee, and he repeated that this wasn't parking for across the street. She asked, "So, you want me to move and come back?" He then repeated his mantra again, that this was not parking for across the street. Keep in mind that there were at least 25 empty spots. I get the GR parking shortage, and the owner can do what he wants, but it's not like their aren't other Mexican restaurants in Grand Rapids. We won't be back. read more

Been going to the Adobe since 1974. The owner cares about the people he serves. Generous portions, good food and nice people. Many that have worked there for years. I am proud to say these restaurants are in our town and make life much more memorable.
