Used professionally, but also as a status icon amongst the farmers back in the days. A few hundred have survived and at this spot you get some of the best surviving examples. And a bunch in a row, which makes a great sight and good pictures. You even can get a look inside. There's a small parking lot at both ends and there were - despite the perfect weather - only few visitors. And most come and leave withing a matter of minutes. But bring some time to fully appreciate the wonderful place. Be aware that Busses and Motorhomes have a seperate parking lot. I'm saying this because a tour Bus squeezed into the car parking lot when we've visited...causing much trouble, since the lot was too small to fit a tour bus. Almost hit my car when he was backing up....

The parking lot is also not paved, but otherwise fine. There's plenty of parking, but surprisingly few visitors. Even though we came here on a beautiful sunny day. The remains of the fortress are quite complete and if you climb up, you can get a better view of it. Of course a higher perspective would reveal an even better view. But to get that picture you'll need a helictoper....or a drone with a camera maybe. Even though the fortress is pretty much gone, you can see all the remains of the inner and outer walls and surely it was an impressive sight when it was still in one piece. It's a nice sight, only a quick walk from the parking lot on a nice, open field. Be respectful and be careful when you climb up, so you won't damage the ruins any further. To me it was also suprising - besides the few visitors - that there isn't any fee or entrance here. It's just there.... and that's very nice.

Öland is a fascinating island. The landscape changes every few miles. The south is a complete…read moredifferent place than the north. It's rural, vast and rugged...and pretty flat. It's an amazing place and home to lots of animals (most of them being birds down here). It's easy accessible by the main road. Parking is plenty....the lot is really huge and free of charge. There's no entrance fee as well. Besides the landscape there's also a wonderful lighthouse, a restaurant, a visitors centre and some shops. Some bathrooms as well. The most southern tip is off limits for dogs though. There are several walking trails leading around the south. Some right through a cow pasture. This Naturum is definitely a nice place to be and to take a walk.
