Three floors, with art, science, literature, and a children's space, as well as plenty of New Brunswick history. My children spent three hours taking it in. On the top floor there is a play space for kids that was really well designed with a puppet theater, puzzles, art you can make, etc. The current myths exhibit on the ground floor was pretty incredible - my young kids went back for seconds, and it was enjoyable for my wife and I as well. The museum is adjacent to great food options so you can visit, get lunch, and reenter. Very impressive!

I enjoyed the tour (approx 20 min, $5 CD/USD) with the knowledgeable, friendly docent who took us through two stories of this well-preserved house (with a glimpse of the attic). The items in the house were explained by the docent, including the adjustable rope beds, the bed warmers, the kitchen tools and the portraits of the family. I left with a good impression of what life was like for the upper class in the early 1800's. Excellent!

The Merritt House is the oldest unchanged building in the city and now the Loyalist House, a museum depicting the way things were at this house almost 200 years ago. Guided tours (10-15 minutes) are given of two levels of this house and a peek of the attic. There are steep stairs in the house and up to the house, so a tour of this house is not wheelchair friendly. On Wednesdays through this summer, the Mayor's Tea is held in the Loyalist House. We happened to be touring on Wednesday and we're invited to tea with the museum staff. We enjoyed hot tea, fruit cake, cherry tarts, and zucchini bread over conversation with the staff and other guests. This was a great way to meet other people. Our Guidewas very informative touring the main level and upstairs level of the house. The Guide donned garb from the 1800s, but I don't think they made black Adidas shoes back then, hehe!! He did a good job answering all of our questions and sort of resembled the young man in the painting in the dining room. Overall we enjoyed this quick tour of the house. ADMISSION: $3 Adults, $1 Children/Students, $7 Families

This 19th century building was originally used as a chicken coop in Sheffield, NB before being transported by G.E. Barbour Company down the Saint John River by barge in two pieces to Saint John and refurbished as a general store and museum in 1967, the same year as the company's centennial and Canada's centennial. In 1981, the building was relocated to its current location near the site G.E. Barbour Company's original warehouse. The company is now headquartered in Sussex, NB. In 2011, Barbour's General Store & Museum had their grand reopening celebration and ribbon cutting with company officials and dignitaries. Stepping inside Barbour's General Store & Museum is like going back over 100 years in time, which is filled with authentic merchandise and artifacts & tools from the Victoria era and also houses a barber shop/dental office, like the early days. This unique country store offers their own King Cole Teas including a Tea Bar in the back, a good variety of New Brunswick made products, almond butter, spices, extracts, maple syrup, King Cole dyed "tea" shirts, candies, fresh fudge, kettlecorn, gifts, souvenirs, and more. Also, you can chill out and play a game of checkers on the checkerboards in the store! The friendly staff will answer your questions about the artifacts and historical items at Barbour's. After enjoying complementary samples of cinnamon almond butter and tea in the store, I decided to get a Green Tea Slushie ($2.25) from the Tea Bar, which was very cold and refreshing on a nice warm sunny day. This is very good Canadian tea, eh! FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Barbours-General-Store/208036962572426
