Helpful and friendly front desk staff who watched our luggage while out. Many breakfast options.

Nope! RUN! I do not recommend this hotel. Avoid it at all costs! I'm confused how it's a "4-star"…read morehotel?!?! It felt more like a run-down motel. We spent $800 for 4 nights and it was atrocious! The rooms were not clean and the towels were such poor quality... it was so rough that the fibers started shedding everywhere and pilling. The bed made my skin itch and the fact that housekeeping didn't even change the bedding made it feel even more uncomfortable and unhygienic. Water was supposed to be complimentary; a bottle a day. We only received two small bottles on the first night then nothing after that. Also, housekeeping starts at 8AM? The housekeeper knocks and just opens the door without waiting for a response. We deadbolt the door and you hear them attempting to open the door multiple times during the morning. It's ridiculous. Manners much? Nope, there's no DND door cling. The AC in the room is set to a certain temperature and cannot be adjusted. WTF The only thing this place has going for it is that it's close to the train, Salzburg HBF. Aside from that, the surrounding area felt sketchy. To top it off, the front desk staff were unhelpful. ZERO STARS, if I could.

This was a decent, budget-friendly hotel. We arrived in Salzburg via train, and walked from the…read moretrain station to the hotel, which took about 10 minutes. We were lugging four large suitcases and battling a biting wind while consulting Google maps, so it probably would have been a faster walk had we known where we were going, and had we not been lugging 4 weeks of clothing with us. The hotel lobby is fun and vibrant, and the front desk clerks were friendly and incredibly helpful. I say this because I'd booked our room via a booking site, and changed the check-in/check-out dates through that site once before we traveled. That site sent me a confirmation, but didn't bother letting the hotel know that I'd made the change, so when we tried to check in...they had nothing. After a moment of panic, the young man helping us told us it wouldn't be a problem, he just needed to make an adjustment. Our room was on the 4th floor, and it seemed like all the glitz and vibrancy in the hotel was used in the lobby. The room was a bit tight and spare, but comfortable for our needs. We didn't have much of a view from our window, but if I leaned out just a bit (making my husband super anxious), I could see Hohensalzburg away on the hill. The bathroom was tiny, and we had to get creative with space in there. The shower had decent water pressure, but it was another one of those that had no shower door, and no curtain. Water got everywhere, which we tried to contain, but to no avail. We did get really good sleep while staying here, though, and that's what matters most to us. The bed was comfy, and the blankets were warm and cozy. The thing I think I loved most about the room was that once you put your key in the slot to turn on the power, the TV would turn on to a fireplace scene, complete with the crackle of the fire and the wood burning down to ashes, only to repeat itself again and again. It was a tiny detail, but I loved the heck out of it! The hotel isn't very far from Mozartplatz, but you do have to walk. It's a nice stroll across the river, even in not-so-nice weather. Tip: if your map app tells you to turn left and then turn left after stepping outside the building, don't listen to it! You can cross the street (towards the river), and follow that down until you see the first of many bridges across. I'd recommend taking the first one, as it'll be less crowded, but it is worth it to cross the second one at least once, so you can see the lights up close. I believe we got lucky in locking in a good price for this hotel, given we were there for Christmas. They definitely were busy during our stay, but we were always welcomed back when returning, and wished a good day as we left. And, they're dog-friendly, too! We found that out as we were waiting for the one elevator to get up to our room (we took the stairs, as the elevator was slow in descending to the lobby level). We had a beagle on our floor, and it about broke my heart.

This time, they were all sold out, and so I checked out both the Motel Ones in Salzburg. I received exactly what I thought what I would get: a stylish but small (and very clean) room, with an OK breakfast. Whatever they had was fresh and tasty - but I like fresh eegs and the little extras that cost more - and are unavailable here, hence the OK. If you travel on a budget and want a clean nice room with an attractive socialise area - this sure a a good pick. If you expect a MOTEL as the name would suggest, you are totally wrong, this is a hotel and does not remotely resemble a motel (maybe that was the revenge to the America's hot dog chain "Wiener Schnitzel" (where they sell hot dogs and do not even know what a schnitzel is ;.) Again, a nice clean and stylish place to stay. And if you have the choice: This one has by far the nicer location than the one in the Alpenstrasse.

The explanation future guests need regards the unloading and parking part. There is no place to unload your car in front of the hotel. There is a side street immediately to the left of the entrance as you're sailing around the 'round about. Turn right there and you'll find 3-5 spaces on the right shoulder of the road depending upon how busy it is. Unload there and the staff will bring out a cart. The parking garage is 5 mins away by car (all one way streets, a bit of a maze), 10 minutes at least on foot, and is not easy to find. Look for the Hotel Imlauer sign on the wall, it's only about 6" x 6", so keep your eyes peeled. Once you're there, it all makes sense! Just hang in there! We do recommend Hotel Imlauer in Salzburg! Enjoy!

You may want to take an Uber or taxi depending on your physical capabilities and luggage situation. The front desk person was kind and explained the amenities available plus we were fortunate to get an early check in. The room and bathroom were large, clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast buffet was impressive, the staff at the buffet were very nice and helped me with gluten free options. The manager offered me packaged and heated gf bread and remembered me each morning after to give me more bread. The restaurant downstairs in the tavern was very busy on the night we went but squeezed us in. The hotel is very close distance to the Mirabell palace and garden, many shops and cafes. I enjoyed this hotel and would stay again if I make my way back to Salzburg.

It has been an absolutely horrible experience at this hotel. First off, the location is alright,…read moreit's a fairly easy walk into old town, and the accommodations are good enough. Now story time... I planned this vacation a while back through a travel company. I was always intending on traveling alone, so I made reservations for a single occupancy room. Unexpectedly, just weeks prior to leaving for this trip, my roommate had some time off and decided to meet me in Austria. My roommate was aware that there may not be an upgradeable room and that she may have to find a hotel room for herself because of the single occupancy room reservation, but when we showed up to check in, the clerk behind the front desk was incredibly stern and was definitely not going to allow my friend to stay in my room, and was also quite adamant that there were no other rooms available. No problem, my friend easily found another hotel and made a reservation. Here's the kicker to the whole story... the front desk at this hotel knew that my friend found a hotel to stay in, but every time we would show up to this hotel together, the front desk staff was very harsh and judgemental and would not even allow my friend to come up to the room. They made her stay in the lobby. It was as though I was 16 and my parents were making sure I didn't sneak my girlfriend up to my bedroom! I understand not wanting to run the risk of two people potentially sleeping in a single occupancy room... and I'm sure they've run into their fare share of idiots who have attempted to skirt that rule in the past... but I have NEVER stayed in any hotel that does not allow guests in your room at 2:00 in the afternoon! NEVER!!!! I honestly wish I could give this hotel 0 stars due to the compete disrespect and lack of common courtesy towards paying guests. I suppose the location of this hotel is enough to warrant a single star, but I HIGHLY suggest you forgo any reservations at this establishment unless you're feeling nostalgic and want to experience living in a strict college dorm setting while on vacation. I can't stress enough how aggravating the stay here has been. It has left an unfortunate terrible taste in my mouth for this otherwise absolutely amazing city. I have NEVER payed good money to be made to feel so childish, embarrassed and infuriated. The travel company which booked this hotel will be warned and it will be highly recommended that they immediately stop using this hotel in the future. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!
