I love carousel animals (especially vintage) so I'm always excited to find some unique ones. This carousel has a skunk, porcupine, a black fly, fish, and various other critters found in the region- each with a plaque with their name. I believe there are 25 hand carved creatures total. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. This charming ride ($2.50 at the time of my visit) will delight all ages! Have you ever been on a Carousel that features ALL the local animals from the area?! This Carousel is 10 years old and handcrafted celebrating the beautiful Adirondacks! It's a great stop when visiting Lake Placid and Lake George! It's like $5 to ride and you have to wear a mask. This place is awesome and great for the winter holidays coming up! Amazing spot for the kids. Carousel rides are reasonably priced. Coloring activities and puzzles for them to do as well. Was not expecting this gem! 100% take the kids here, they even have an outside playground. Fresh popped popcorn as all! read more

A real gem: a modern-constructed classic-style carousel, built and run by a private non-profit as a sort of supplemental attraction for the area, right next to the terminus of the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. The staff are extremely nice (not your usual scowling teens with a bored look, but obviously into-it older folks, possibly even volunteers). There's a small snack and souvenir stand inside, clean (enough) restrooms, and old school playground equipment outside. The carousel features nifty carved animals (and a very cool stationary boat) from native local species, and some charming if somewhat amateur paintings of various Adirondacks scenes (check out the very odd rainbow plummeting into Saranac Lake). $2.50 per ride, hours vary by season, check their website, but open 7 days during the season and a surprising number of hours in the spring and fall, at least for now, by the signs posted (see photos for details). Definitely a worthy labor of love, and the 2 to 10 year old set will have a good time. read more

If you're camping with a bunch of kids, and the forecast calls for off and on rain, eventually you look for things to do. The carousel is a great way to spend an hour or so, and combined with a stop at the nearby grocery store to replenish supplies and perhaps a stop for ice cream, you've got a whole afternoon taken care of. The carousel is really pretty, with a whole slew of animals and insects to choose from. .For the little ones who might not be comfortable on the standard seats, there's a boat! That's what my two year old picked. What I liked best was that while the carousel is the main focus, there's other things to do too. If it's a nice day there is a playground outside. Inside, there's a play area, with toys, costumes, puzzles and even colouring supplies. My kid had a blast! read more
