Where else can you buy original ceramics and pottery pieces at very reasonable prices? The Adelaide Potters Club of course, Their Gallery has a good range of arts on display and also for sale, which is open every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm.
The club began back in 1949 with the current venue being located within one of Unley City Councils' single fronted villas. They have pottery classes available almost all year long excluding January and at $100 for 8 weeks (not including the clay, glazes and firing which is nominal) it's the best value in town. And not forgetting the tuition is by a world class ceramic artist. Find details on their website or visit if interested. I have to note the gallery does have a few older style colourings but there are also some brilliant, vivid and contemporary pieces also, so grab what you like as they are one of a kind.
If you want to take a step further and become a member it is definitely worth while, as the cost is minimal considering the advantages you get. For instance use of the kiln, workspace and even exhibit your art work in the Gallery for the annual fee of $60 plus $20 being a key deposit. Amazing!
The Adelaide Potters Club has a new Director, Magali Rage whom I was speaking with and she really sounds like she knows her stuff plus has a clear vision for the future direction of the Club. Being reasonably new to Australia and the Club, she has certainly made alot of progress in a short space of time, having organised open days, exhibitions and so forth, which has ignited a spark of interest to the ageing club. This pertains not only within the local community but further afield. I can only wish them the best and hope they can achieve their long lost recognition and reputation of days gone by. read more
