My go to is the vegetarian platter and it's a huge portion served with 2 injera breads (think chewy sour pancakes) The pickup order is boxed well and makes it easy to enjoy at home. Huge serving too. This was my first experience with Ethiopian food. Wow! 4 of us went and based on the waiter's suggestion we got the large multidish sampler. When it arrived at the table I asked him to point out the spicy dishes so I could avoid them. In addition to 2 baskets of injera the entire bowl was lined with injera. It was delicious. I mastered using it to pick up food from the individual bowls. in addition to the small bowls there were dips all around the bowls. I just had water with my meal and 2 had the mango drink. We did not finish everything so we had plenty of food to take home. What a fun experience. Will go back soon. the parking lot is small and dark. The restrooms are clean. The TV had an ethiopian station on- very interesting. sorry no pix- my meal mates dug in before I had a chance. A lovely restaurant with delicious food and extremely friendly staff! The injera was so soft and moist; I just wanted to curl up into it like a blanket. Or maybe a pillow! Or maybe!! One injera rolled up as a pillow and the other unfurled as a blanket??? Thoughts?? I've never had Ethiopian meat dishes before but the kitfo blew me away. The beef was tender and flavorful, pairing well with the cottage cheese and the dry spice on the side. Tbh the idea of meat + cottage cheese confused me at first but it's actually so brilliant. In hindsight, the health hoes on tiktok are all over that these days. My favorite stew of the veggie lover's was for sure the yellow split peas but the red lentils were a close second (sheeeeesh). Several of the stews were a tad spicy so be forewarned :o Order a mango drink full of fruity frefreshing to feel better. I wish I had included pictures of the menu because prices have risen a few dollars since the menu pics I saw last year but I think it's fair because the portions here are so generous. You could easily split one dish between two people. Or you could get two dishes to share and have plenty for another day ! My tippy is to reheat leftovers with a damp paper towel to kinda steam the injera. If possible, would recommend eating in the restaurant though! Addis continues to impress. It's been seven years since I first came here and the quality has remained consistent and outstanding. Most of their selections are excellent but my favorite has been their doro wot. The flavors are deep and scintillating. The only slight negative is that the doro wot is extremely rich and heavy. The injera is also excellent and their portions are more than generous. I would recommend going with a large group so you can try all types of different flavors. The ambiance is basic but the service is always friendly and efficient -- the owner often comes out and jokes with you. If you like Ethiopian food or want to try it out check this place out -- I think this is the best one in Columbus. read more

I visited on a Wednesday around 7pm. The street the restaurant is on was really dark so I could not tell but I think there are about 10 designated parking spots right outside. The inside is simple yet clean with many pictures on the wall. The service was fast and friendly (there were 2 other customers plus a few came in for a takeout). My friend and I shared Addis Special and a side of plain rice. My favorite were the spinach, beets, cabbage and the rice, though everything was good. I particularly loved the rice. It was light and fluffy, buttery with a hint of spice. I could eat a bucket of it! The staff was super friendly and happy to help but also left us alone so we didn't feel rushed. I couldn't even finished the second injera. Hot sauce had a dry heat to it. If I was going to try again, I would highly recommend dining in as the sauces made the jnjera soggy after a 20 minute drive. Hooked on this place after my first experience with it, or Ethiopian food in general. Food is served swiftly, sizzling, hot, on a huge round platter. Four very hungry people descended like locusts on the fare, and we still brought home several boxes of leftovers, which we are guarding nervously from each other. These are flavors like I've never tasted in my life. There is no cutlery, just an enchanting spongy bread called Injera. It looks like it's been poured out on a very hot griddle, like a thick crepe. It's made from spelt flour, and it has an elasticity and springiness that has to be bitten to be believed. We tore off small pieces and used it like waxed pastry paper to pick up the lentils, peppers, onions, roast, chicken, and beef (tibs) which come in piles. Then there are small bowls filled with a deeply delicious greenish beef stew; chicken, cabbage and carrot stew; ground beef, swimming in homemade butter and seasoned with corrima or black cardamom. It tastes a bit like green cardamom, but is another species, Afromomum corrorima. Both green and black cardamom are in the ginger family. Black cardamom is an absolutely bewitching spice - sweet, pungent, peppery, and heady.Niman imports, this tiny toasted seed by the hundred pound sack because it is the essential flavor of his homeland. There was one particularly hot and spicy dish made with Serranos. Niman warned us ahead... it was sneakily hot as Hades, but seductively delicious. We brought most of it home to dole out in small portions. There were collards, lentils, beets, various colorful purées, and a refreshing green salad with tomatoes, all arranged around bowls of the stews, piles of roast, chicken and beef tips, and the minced butter - drowned beef described above. Food was all beautifully arranged on a colorful platter, delighting every sense. Niman brought us extra rolls of injera when we mowed through what was on the platter. What a magical bread! We finished with an icy glass of fresh guava juice: the perfect, sweet and soothing cooler for excited tongues. Four of us ate like kings for $68. Dining at Addis is like taking a mini vacation to Ethiopia. Almost everyone else in the restaurant was Ethiopian, dressed in the flowing clothing of their homeland. Lively talk and loud laughter, beats from traditional music, videos, playing on corner TVs, and the most heavenly food combined for a take-us-away experience , we feel incredibly lucky to have found the best Ethiopian restaurant possible in big, friendly Columbus, Ohio. I had a hankering for Ethiopian food and decided to make it a date night with my boyfriend, who hasn't tried Ethiopian just yet. When we arrived, we were greeted by whom we think is the owner, and his colleague. Very warm welcome and prompt to be seated. Small and cozy, yet super traditional feel, it's like enjoying a home cooked meal at a friend's place. We each had the mango smoothie and it was THE best mango smoothie we have ever had. Incredibly smooth, super flavorful and tastes so fresh. We've had many smoothies in our lives, and we both want to come back for this! We then ordered the Oromo Combo and Shiro Wot. My favorite was the Oromo -- packed with flavor, incredible spices, colorful array of choices to create many different variations for your taste buds to dance to. The marinated beef was fully seasoned, although a bit on the tough side, you can tell many hours were put into marinating. The chicken underneath was so tender and still piping hot even when we got through a third of the combo already. Loved seeing so many veggies as I'm trying to get in as many veggies into my meals as possible -- and they were all perfectly cooked and tasty (yes, even the beets!). As for the Shiro wot, I used this as a topper when eating through the Oromo Combo. By itself, still tasty -- and watch out for the peppers in this, it is a hit-you-in-the-back-of-the-throat-and-stays-there kind of HOT. I was heartbroken when Shang-gri-la closed at this spot. But I feel better now that I've found a different, but equally great restaurant has taken it's place. As for atmosphere, what a relief from the day to day fearful, distant cold tight smiles we mostly live with now. The staff made you feel like family, and the crowd, all Ethiopean as far as I could tell, were all happy, smiling and friendly. You're packed in kind of tight yet people spoke to others and enjoyed it. Wow. We ordered a huge variety of dishes and I honestly can't say that there weren't any I didn't love. I'm a huge fan of injira so ordered extra and it didn't disappoint. After seeing it and asking another diner, I ordered the mango drink and it was not like any other I had had. It incorporated some kind of dark syrup that was swirled into it and was delicious. Especially complimenting the food. Towards the end of our meal, someone came through the room with a brazier of incense, amping up the good feeling. Nice touch. We asked that ot be served with rice (if you call a day in Advance, they will make the bread without flour if you are gluten intolerant). The prices were reasonable, and staff friendly. I'll be honest, I've never had Ethiopian food before so take this review with a grain of salt, but honestly, my palette was awoken by all of the flavors on this platter. We ordered the mahbawari and the chicken tibs. These were both absolutely phenomenal but we preferred the mahbawari (it's the first item on the menu for a reason!) The sauces were extremely well spiced and the perfect heat levels. The veggies on the side were also raised very well. I've never had injera before either but it was a perfect texture and a great almost sourdough-like taste. The waiters are extremely friendly as well and more than willing to help out first timers. They also noted that about 1 platter is usually a good amount of food for two people...might I add, a platter is about $11-$13. So you're literally paying about $5-$7 per person for a meal!! (Granted I'd be willing to pay a lot more for their meals.) Either way, it's awesome service, awesome food, and an awesome experience. read more
