After many bad reports from a nearby aquatic center that I was planning on attending, I had to…read morecancel my reservation there and find another spot for my monthly group trip. I ended up here and they were able to accommodate us at the last minute without any issues. The staff, from top to bottom, was amazing, very friendly and helpful. To the left of the Center, right off of the front parking lot is a picnic area with picnic tables and a very small plastic play structure. The Center has a huge parking lot that is more than capable of handling its visitors. Entering here is a bit different. Women enter through the left and men enter to the right. They both go through large changing rooms for their respective gender that feeds to the pool area. They have other family changing rooms available near snack bar and the splash zone. They also have a rack with life jackets on it that non-swimmers can use. You can also use your own puddle jumpers, but the little arm floaties are a no-go. You can not use flotation when going down the slide or on the diving board. The Center features a large Olympic sized pool that goes from 3.5 feet to about 5 feet. They also have a large spiral slide and a basketball rim. Just off of the large pool is a 12-foot deep pool that has a low and high diving board. My little loved the Splash Zone area, which is like a decent sized wading pool with a lot of water splashing and a large bucket that periodically pours down. Unlike the other pool area, the water here is heated. Both areas have low chairs that run along the pools and chaise lounge chairs around the area's perimeter and many of those chairs are under huge umbrellas that provide a lot of shade. You have to get their early or just be lucky to get one of those chairs in the shade. I saw people claiming theirs (and a bunch of other's) chairs as soon as the place opened, with any towel or article of clothing they had available. The Center has a very nice snack bar with some reasonably priced food items. There are a few picnic tables over there to eat or you can just take it back to your seat in the pool area, if you have one. The snack bar has pickles, candy, hot dogs, pizza, pop sickles, bread sticks, pretzels, slushies and much more. And like I said, at very reasonable prices. They have a double pop-up tent by the snack bar, with tables and chairs under it, that they use to host parties. It is not a very big area. If you are big balling, you can rent out the Center after hours. If you are looking to save some money, like me, you can buy a punch card, which has 10 punches and averages out to about $4.50 per punch versus $5. My little and her friends really, really liked this place and had so much fun. I do not mind driving out to Franklin to visit this place. It is more than worth the price of admission. I highly recommend checking this place out and look forward to coming back here soon.

Very clean place, and if you have kiddos they provide a free swim diaper + life jackets! There is an AMAZING kiddie swim area that's separate from the main pool, great for families with little kids! There is a concessions stand that is slightly overpriced but still satisfactory. They have two diving boards and a huge water slide, and the main pool itself spans from about 3 feet to about 6 feet deep. Perfect for all ages. I only give it 4 stars because today they did not play nearly as much country music as I would like on the speakers (LOL), And they don't really have enough space or chairs to accommodate for the amount of people who visit there. Also concessions is overpriced! Overall a fun place to spend the afternoon and it's 50x better than freedom springs!

My focus at Roberts Park this morning was to see the beautifully preserved 1884 Longwood Covered…read moreBridge but there's so much more to do here. It was a nice opportunity to walk around and see the park itself. Picnic pavilions, sporting fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts, pickleball courts and even an amphitheater. Many of the park roads are one way which was a bit of a challenge to getting exactly to where I could see I wanted to be but the road doesn't go that way. Oops. Connersville has a really nice park that has something for everyone. Whether you like swimming,…read morebasketball, pickleball, tennis, or horseshoes, they have a place for it at Roberts Park. If you like watching your kids play on a variety of swings, slides, and climbing equipment scattered throughout the park, the have those here too! The park is a mature park with lots of shade trees that are greatly appreciated on days like the one I visited here. There are narrow roads that meander through the park since the place is quite large. On the south end near the aquatic center, there is an amphitheater for racing and some barns near there. I didn't see any horses during my visit, but I assume that the barns and track are for those. Must be a seasonal thing like the swimming and water slides. The park also has the Longwood Covered Bridge which was relocated here for preservation. There are a couple sculptures and a few plaques to commemorate bits of history tied to the park & Connersville. Generally, there are a lot of options for individuals. The only reason I didn't give this a five star review is that the park looks like it could use some attention. The tennis courts has cracks that have been sealed, but the scraggly white lines should have been painted over to match the court. Very distracting. Some of the older playground equipment could used a fresh coat of paint too. The garden area by the park admin building was in need of some trimming and the brick around the fountain could stand some work too. Little things, but they do separate an older park from one that has the latest features. A wish list would be a walking trail separate from the roads. I don't like having to continuously watch over my shoulder for vehicles coming up behind me, or having to walk through the grass when it's wet from dew. Otherwise, the park seems like a great place for specific activities. Review #1419

This park is named after William Willard, founder of the Indiana School for the Deaf, who the state…read morebuilt a school for in 1850. The park is the site of that school. Willard park is an accessible park. It has one of the largest covered pavilions I have seen at a neighborhood park. There is a free private lot, a playground, a walking/running trail, a full basketball court, a half basket court, and an aquatic center. It is not very quiet as it is right by a firehouse and located off of a busy street. The playground is accessible to children with disabilities. There is a long ram that leads up to the top of the jungle gym equipment. It is some older looking equipment that could use some TLC. Kids will still find it entertaining. The pavilion is massive and has picnic tables. The basketball courts are nice for the most part. The full court has a few cracks, tons of trash, some graffiti. It needs a resurfacing. The half court was a bit lower than the standard height (not complaining) and was in better shape than the full court. It also has 2 4-square courts on the end opposite the hoop. The trail is unpaved but pretty wide. Not sure how far it is, but it looked like a quarter to a half mile or so. The park has a lot of space. It spans over 11 acres. It also has lots of trash. I even saw a spot where someone dumped burned charcoal from their grill. There was a city worker there picking up trash when I was there, but they needed a team to tackle that job. The park has a memorial for Sylvia Likens in the back near the fence, a young girl that was tortured and murdered by her caregiver. This is a decent park, even though it is slipping a bit. It has lots of potential and can easily be a five star spot.

Wes Montgomery Park

Despite the fact that Wes Montgomery Park is only a few minutes away from my house, I'd never…read morereally taken the time to stop and check it out until recently. This eastside park is located at 34th & Hawthorne and is named after Wes Montgomery (I bet you could figure that out, eh?), universally regarded as one of the greatest guitarists in jazz history who was born in Indy in 1923 and died at the age of 45 while still living in Indy. He picked up two Grammy Awards and had three other nominations including one posthumously in 1969 for "Willow Weep For Me." The park is a rather impressive park, though it has been plagued by acts of violence including homicides in 2021 and in August 2022. A 2017 homicide, 18-year-old Deante Williams, was in broad daylight. Wes Montgomery Park is a 37-acre park that features a small spray park, baseball diamonds, several basketball courts, a public pool, swing sets, a shelter house, and a medium-sized greenspace area that feels larger than it is. Like all public parks in Indy, parking is free and fairly abundant here. As a fun fact, the splash pad is designed in the shape of a guitar to honor its namesake. Wes Montgomery Park does offer some accessibility features in its park called the Boundless Playground. This was added in 2011 and offers children with disabilities the opportunity for recreation alongside nondisabled children. It's quite cool, though it seemed a wee bit worn (as did much of the park, though it's important to note that I did visit during the winter and not during the height of playtime). Overall, I'd consider Wes Montgomery Park a good but not great park. It's certainly not a destination park, however, it serves this neighborhood well. While it's important to be aware of the potential for violence, for the most part the park is well used and often the subject of service projects from area companies. I never felt unsafe during my time here and love that the park honors the memory of one of Indy's music greats.

The park has a very nice playground area that is lined with wood chips and rubber matting (which is in very bad shape). There are benches along the perimeter where parents can sit and watch their littles play. The playground has some very good equipment which includes a jungle gym with a bunch of slides, a rock climbing wall, and monkey bars. The jungle gym is accesible and has a ramp that allows littles with disabilities to play on it. There is also a spinning net pyramid, a climbing net and a bank of swings with traditional swings, toddler swings and a disability swing. It is a very nice playground and is shaded by a bunch of trees. There is a picnic shelter with picnic tables under it and a grill outside of it right off of the playground area. The park has an awesome splash pad with benches around that parents can sit. And there is another shelter with picnic tables and and grill next to the splash pad. There are also some picnic tables scattered around the park's ground's, most of which are shaded by trees You will find three full and 2-half basketball courts at the park. They are in OK shape. They are a bit older. The rims and backboard are in fair shape and the court itself needs a little TLC. The park's 3 baseball fields are in decent shape and are well maintained. The park as a whole is very well maintained and you can tell that the landscaping maintenance is on a regular schedule. The grass was cut and the trash was removed when I was there. I am not sure how safe the park is though. A quick internet search showed that someone was shot there a year ago. There was also some sketchy people just parked in their vehicles hanging out when I was there. In addition to all of park's amenities, there is a ton of green space pockets that are suitable for picnics, playing catch, a football game, soccer or flying a kite. This is a very nice park that is well maintained. It is definitely worth a visit. You can spend hours here, especially in the summer when the splash pad and pool are open.
