We were quickly able to find the series that we were looking for and, they got a hard to find book sent over from a sister library with ease. I also notice lots of kids, teens and adult programs that look like lots of fun.

While my eldest daughter and I were in Chelsea, OK, I drove to Pryor Creek Bridge for a very short…read morevisit. Not much to do here really. Just to see the bridge, get a quick photo, and maybe drive across it slowly or walk through it carefully. Per Google, "This 123-foot steel-truss bridge was part of the original Route 66 alignment. It carried Mother Road traffic from 1926 to 1932. It's the only unaltered bridge with its particular structure -- known as the Pratt through truss design -- left in Oklahoma. It's no longer open to traffic, but you can walk across." Well, I drove across it with care in slow motion. I even took a video of it. There's a bench and a Welcome to Chelsea sign on one side. You may bring a sticker or two to leave it on the sign. Stickers seem to be a Midwest thing from what I've seen through our travels. I didn't have a sticker with me so I couldn't leave one. If you want to leave a mark, bring two stickers on your future visit... one for you and one for me. Thank you! Glad we got to experience a part of the Mother Road history for its Route 66 Centennial Celebration in 2026!

OK. I was skeptical as I was being dragged into the Ecocenter for a tour. I mean, we were at the…read morelake. I wanted to be relaxing on the water. That being said, this is a great interlude for any lake vacay. I had no idea we would actually get to visit the turbines inside the dam and be allowed below the dam. You must check in at the center (and have an ID), look at a few historic photos, watch a film and then you are golf-carted a few yards away to cross the street to the dam. The elevator is a bit old but we were assured it was safe. It takes about 60 seconds to go down the 11 stories to the bottom of the facility. Ear plugs are provided as you walk through the turbine area. Our tour guide was very well informed and did a great job answering questions. This used to be a fallout shelter and they still have some crackers, carb replacement, and water for display. I cannot believe they built this dam with 1930s technology.

A very useful piece of road for travel between Tulsa OK and Springdale/Fayetteville AR, the…read moreTurnpike was completed in 1991. It runs 33 miles and has only three interchanges along the way with the tollbooth in the middle. At the moment, it's running at $2.50 each way for two-axle cars. Speed limits range from 65 to 75. Smooth, clear, and well marked, this four-lane dividen highway is the very easy to drive. The main $2.50 toll is payable with cash (exact change not required) or a PikePass. The interchanges have lower prices and might not be staffed so they are exact change only. Of course, there's a free road that parallels the highway. US-412 Alternate isn't nearly as smooth and has a 55 mph limit.
