If you want nice, friendly, courteous librarians-go to the Jay library. You can use your same card there, it's the same library system and better people.

OK. I was skeptical as I was being dragged into the Ecocenter for a tour. I mean, we were at the…read morelake. I wanted to be relaxing on the water. That being said, this is a great interlude for any lake vacay. I had no idea we would actually get to visit the turbines inside the dam and be allowed below the dam. You must check in at the center (and have an ID), look at a few historic photos, watch a film and then you are golf-carted a few yards away to cross the street to the dam. The elevator is a bit old but we were assured it was safe. It takes about 60 seconds to go down the 11 stories to the bottom of the facility. Ear plugs are provided as you walk through the turbine area. Our tour guide was very well informed and did a great job answering questions. This used to be a fallout shelter and they still have some crackers, carb replacement, and water for display. I cannot believe they built this dam with 1930s technology.

We watched their 10 minute video of the dam's history & took in all the photos around the building. There was an outdoor patio where we took pictures of the dam. They have a sign addressed to teens about rules and behavior which I find amusing but ultimately needed as I'm sure many of them didn't grow up going to libraries and have no idea they are supposed to be quiet peaceful places. I love that printing pages is only 10 cents per page and they NEVER look at what you print. They pick the pages up face down and hand them to you still faced down! They show more restraint than I EVER could! Just kidding. I think it's great they respect your privacy! They also have book sales regularly, I just filled up a brown paper bag full of books for ONLY $5! I was thrilled! Cannot wait to dig in. I need to figure out how to make a donation because I really do love libraries. They are so underrated these days! Don't forget kids, knowledge is POWER!

While my eldest daughter and I were in Chelsea, OK, I drove to Pryor Creek Bridge for a very short…read morevisit. Not much to do here really. Just to see the bridge, get a quick photo, and maybe drive across it slowly or walk through it carefully. Per Google, "This 123-foot steel-truss bridge was part of the original Route 66 alignment. It carried Mother Road traffic from 1926 to 1932. It's the only unaltered bridge with its particular structure -- known as the Pratt through truss design -- left in Oklahoma. It's no longer open to traffic, but you can walk across." Well, I drove across it with care in slow motion. I even took a video of it. There's a bench and a Welcome to Chelsea sign on one side. You may bring a sticker or two to leave it on the sign. Stickers seem to be a Midwest thing from what I've seen through our travels. I didn't have a sticker with me so I couldn't leave one. If you want to leave a mark, bring two stickers on your future visit... one for you and one for me. Thank you!
