River City Veterinary Hospital - Our happy golden retriever Luke playing with his friends

River City Veterinary Hospital

Our sweet boy Luke our beloved golden retriever recently passed away after twelve years of a very…read morefull life. He grew up going to River City for his health care and was a regular at doggie day care. This was his favorite place on earth. The care and love received from these people was extraordinary. He was so comfortable with this place and its wonderful people that when he had to see Dr. Harsh for medical care, he was unafraid and loved him too with big lick to the face. The attached picture was hung in the lobby of River City of our sweet boy and you can see how happy he was playing with his friends. There is no better better place in town to take your animal for care or day care! When I think of the great memories we had with our dog, this place is part of those very fond memories. Thank you Dr. Harsh and River City Veterinary Hospital and Day Care for being so loving and taking such good care of our very good boy Luke.

I expect a vet to be there when we desperately need help. Instead, River City Vet turned us away…read more During Blue's yearly checkup I mentioned that there had been some respiratory/sneezing issues for several months but this was of no concern to them. We were told he was healthy. He wasn't. I brought Blue in for a weight check 3-4 weeks after his checkup. He had lost nearly a pound in that time. He wouldn't eat. His behavior had changed. No one followed up on my concerns. I called River City Vet a few days after the weight check because Blue was lethargic and wouldn't eat or drink. We were told they didn't have time for us. I took Blue in to West Vet for IV fluids every day for 3 days. My husband was out of the country and made an emergency flight home from Japan while we struggled to keep Blue alive so he could say goodbye to his favorite human. Blue died in our arms on Easter Sunday, a few hours after my husband got home. He was only 6 years old.

Meridian Veterinary Hospital - Radiation Oncology Surgery

Meridian Veterinary Hospital

We trusted Meridian Veterinary Hospital with our Golden Retriever, Lola, for over a year, but after…read moreour recent experiences, we can no longer recommend them. Last fall, we brought Lola in for persistent sinus troubles, including reverse sneezing, snorting, reduced airflow in one nostril, and a poor response to antibiotics. Over three separate visits, the veterinarians repeatedly brushed off our concerns, insisting it was likely just allergies or something she ingested like foxtail weed. Heartbroken and needing real answers, we brought Lola to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center while traveling. Within a single visit, two fourth-year veterinary students independently and immediately identified what Meridian Vet Hospital's team had completely missed: a nasal tumor--a condition well-known to affect Golden Retrievers. Was it incompetence that the Meridian Vet Hospital's team continued to miss such an easy diagnosis? We will never know. However, we informed Dr. Higer and the other vets at Meridian Vet Hospital of the diagnosis, requested additional guidance and received absolutely no help. Through independent research, we pursued radiation surgery treatment at a vet oncology center of excellence in Colorado and we are profoundly grateful that Lola is now in remission. The final break in our trust came a few months later when Lola needed a routine heartworm prescription renewal. She has never missed a single monthly dose and had been fully tested just two months prior. Yet, Meridian Vet Hospital's staff and vets rigidly insisted that we bring her in for another full exam by a vet (not a tech) and expensive bloodwork--costing nearly $150--before they would release her medication. Between missing a relatively easy diagnosis of a life-threatening cancer and putting financial demands ahead of a patient's clear medical history, Meridian Veterinary Hospital deeply let our family down. We have officially taken our care elsewhere and urge other pet parents to advocate closely for their companions.

Despite Vader being a giant baby every time he has to go to the vet, and the 17 year old Princess…read morethe cat also hating it- these really are the best vets in town and possibly the best we've ever had for these two animals of mine. They don't do unnecessary tests and are fair, honest and kind. Despite Vader just wanting to escape (or Princess wanting to bite) it's not their fault in anyway shape or form. The vets are all nice, and try their best to make Vader less fearful. My 17 year old cat- well- they just let her be 17 and grouchy. They don't push vet diets and understand owners (and their budgets). If you need a vet in this very busy area- try to wait for these guys. It's worth it.

Lake Shore Animal Hospital

Lake Shore Animal Hospital

Yesterday morning, (7/10/20), we made the difficult decision to put our American Bulldog, Cam, to…read moresleep. He had been battling cancer for about 2 years. My husband called Lake Shore in the late afternoon of 7/9 to make the appointment. They were able to get us in at 10:30 the following morning. We arrived to the hospital just before our scheduled appointment time. It was rather busy, so my husband and son sat in the waiting and with Cam while I got in line. Within less than a minute an employee , Taylor, approached us and asked if this was Cam. We said yes. She told us they had a room ready for us and immediately brought us back and allowed me to fill out the paperwork in the privacy of a room. Dr. Zach came in to discuss the process with us. I was really unsure about giving Cam a sedative first and then 10-15 minutes later giving him the lethal shot. He listened to my concerns and gave me his professional opinion When they gave Cam the sedative shot, Dr. Zach told us that we could take all the time we needed with Cam. He checked back in about 10 minutes later to see how we were. We told him that we were ready. He & Taylor returned and gave Cam the shot. They were both so loving and caring throughout this. Cam slipped away very quickly ( even before all of the medication was administered). I said to my husband that I thought he was gone. Dr. Zach checked his heart and confirmed that there was no longer a heartbeat. We were then told that we could take all the time we needed with Cam. We spent about another 15 or so minutes with Cam. Lake Shore offers a keepsake ceramic heart with your dogs paw print and name for only $15/each. We elected to get 2. When we were done saying goodbye, Dr. Will asked us if we wanted to be present for them getting Cam's paw print. We opted to stay. He & Taylor came back to the room with the supplies...an ink pad, nail clippers, & the hearts. Taylor clipped Cam's nails and explained that we would get a better print with short nails (hw badly needed a nail trim). As Taylor took the imprint, Dr. Will was on the floor lovingly petting Cam's face. I was so struck by that simple gesture of love he showed us. He reiterated that we made the right decision. As we left, we were given the ceramic paw prints. They were awesome and well worth $15! All of the staff were very compassionate and loving and as we left, we were acknowledged by every single staff member we communicated with. I can't recommend this vet enough. Their office helped us through one of the most difficult times in our life. Their pricing was totally reasonable and they offered multiple disposable options for your pet:communal cremation (dog is cremated with other animals & ashes are spread in Idaho City). Private cremation ( your animal is cremated alone and ashes are returned to you. Clinic disposal (they dispose of your pet in a respectful way) and finally, you can take your pet home for a private burial. The office was very clean and didn't have an animal smell to it at all. Usually when I walk into a veterinary clinic I smell cleaned & animal urine. There was none of that here! It was just clean. I honestly can't thank Dr. Will and Taylor enough. They were both truly angel ^edited to correct the name of the veterinarian who helped us.

Always treat our girls with love and great insight on what is needed for their best care!read more
