    Deadwood Dog

Deadwood dog live at Dog & Partridge, Preston 23/10/2011 A…read moregood turn out at Preston's premier rock and bike pub to see Deadwood Dog, this would be their fourth gig and their reputation is growing. They play a unique brand of bouzouki infused folk rock according to the fliers that are scattered around the pub. They take to the stage and begin with Reali-tv a song taken from their three track CD, the Warehouse Riot EP. Acoustic guitar, bouzouki, harmonica and bass guitar combine with the drums to make a stirring start to proceedings. Hints of folk, Americana and good old rock are then accompanied by powerful, yet melodic vocals. The song ends and the crowd applaud appreciatively. Next up is another track from the CD this world the bouzouki is more prominent in this song and reminds me of early R.E.M. This is followed by warehouse riot and from the re-action of the crowd this could become a Deadwood classic. This song has an Celtic folk feel to it and with all the different styles and genre's that Deadwood throw into the mix it's going to be hard to pigeon hole them. The rest of the set featured the slightly ska/calypso 15 years, the thought provoking divided kingdom, the catchy brighten up and the evocative uglyhead. All songs are well received. The set draws to a close with a wonderful cover of Krafwerks the model and the finishes with the rowdy Jack went down to Georgia. Forty five minutes of well crafted and well played songs. Deadwood Dog are a quality band and I expect great things for and from them. They work the stage and the crowd brilliantly and I will certainly be checking them out again. They play a brand of folk rock but have thrown away the rule book and just go where the music takes them. Check them out a venue near you.
