This place is a hidden gem. It's my sanctuary. I came here for the first time a few months when I froze walking on the street. Forget about walking I couldn't even put my right foot on the ground due to an inflamed plantar fasciitis. I have always been hesitant about needles and acupuncture but I was in so much agony that I could have tolerated anything that day. I called ACTCM and they were booked that evening but I begged them to see me. They were kind enough to oblige even though it was late in the evening and their first appointment is 2 hours. I rushed here and underwent my first appointment. I had the impression the needles will be the kind they have when they give you a flu shot but to my surprise they are really tiny pins not needles which was a relief. I was treated by Nicole and her supervisor Pam who has great in-depth knowledge. I was able to limp and walk immediately after my appointment. Which is a miracle in my world. After that I started coming on Saturdays and have been seen by Angela and Jason Yu. Their supervisor Chris is also amazing who specializes in bone acupuncture. Angela was a nurse for 12 years before she got into acupuncture so I get best of both worlds. My advise is to really take some time to fill out their intake form which is 9 pages (long I know). List out anything and everything you remember that has ever happened to you. This is really helpful for your self and your treatment as acupuncture is a holistic science and art. ACTCM really takes time and effort to understand everything about you in their first appointment which is 2 hours. Completely worth it. And they gave me a discount for my insurance also. I ended up paying only 25$ per session. Whoa win-win! I think I'm going to do acupuncture once a week atleast as a kind of body maintenance now that I know it's not painful read more

For 3 years I had a recurring problem and under the guidance of Dr Jung Kim and the care of Joshua Lee, I was able to get back to normal. I feel so happy I am ending the year with no health problem. The front desk staff is also very nice and pleasant. The facility is always clean and peaceful. I highly recommend this clinic. read more

Since beginning treatment, my general has been improving greatly. I've been able to eliminate some western MD prescribed medications that have potential serious side effects and can even begin to make things worse for my health. They offer both acupuncture and herbal treatments. Sarah is my favorite provider. read more

So, I'd been exhausted from over-work (i.e. classes, my practice, life) and decided it was time to go in to get my body re-booted. This review is for Joel Moncada...this young man is a VERY talented acupuncturist. He actually took time to sit with me, be present and get to the root of what was going on with me. He simplified it for me, trusted his instincts and then needled me with phenomenal results. I could actually FEEL my left side channels opening up and clearing along with my liver. Joel takes his time is thorough and I am eager to visit him in his private practice. ACTCM has an amazing program with very fine graduates. I highly recommend their acupuncture clinic if you're a student on a budget or would just like to try acupuncture for the first time. Thanks again, Joel for helping me find my "YIN" again! read more

ACTCM is a great place to support the acupuncture movement in the U.S.! There is a wide variety of supervisors that students are mentored by that specialize in internal medicine, orthopedic/sports medicine, emotional & phycological issues, & more! SF is very lucky to have such an educational healing gem!! read more

I have gone to this clinic for years because they are great and it really works and it feels good to share my happiness. They tremendously curbed my allergies so I haven't missed any days from work because allergy caused sinus infections which I used to have often. I have also gone to treat residing pain after getting hit on my bicycle. Presently my intern Liz has treated my neck for arthritis and now because of M.S. I see a difference and can walk better, sleep better, and my mood has improved with less stress and anxiety and my neck feels much better. Not only have they helped me, they are also very pleasant. The receptionist, my intern Liz and the supervising instructor Mrs. Hennisey are friendly and professional. It is relaxing, I love going there. It's so nice to be treated with understanding and patience. I am very grateful for this place and it's people. It's also bus accessible on the 22 and the 10. There is also a parking lot. read more

Dr Erin an her students are kind and amazingly effective. I broke my arm and needed help in getting the muscles to work properly again after being immobilized for 5 weeks. After each visit, my arm is more functional, moving more freely and I have less pain. The price of a visit is so reasonable! I feel more expansive after each visit also. My lungs are more open. I can breathe in more easily and feel more joy in my life. I am hooked on this clinic even though I drive an hour to get there. If I lived in San Francisco, I would visit even more often than I do. I love the teaching environment. All are welcome and included. The herbal remedy recommended is working very well also. I am sleeping better. read more

If you ever go there, ask for Dr. Jung Kim. He's one of the best! When he had his private practice out on Ocean Avenue years ago, I went to see him to get some herbals before I got pregnant and it must have worked really well. I was just out of Grad School @ the time and worried about my health and circulation due to all that studying, tremendous caffeine in-take and utter lack of exercise. He prepared an herbal set for about 15 days worth and needless to say it worked wonders!!! read more

The best things about this clinic: 1)Sliding scale makes treatments affordable when acupuncture would normally be out of reach & 2)There is a diverse team of practitioners guiding the students, so you are not relying on one acupuncturist's knowledge base, technique, & opinion. The bad side of the clinic: Many of the students are inept, sloppy, rude, and uncaring. I was motivated to get on & write this review to help steer people away from a current intern who gave me a horrible treatment- Shauna O. read more

I showed up for a tui-na massage (since they said they had no shiatsu). They kept me waiting past the start of my appointment, and when I asked, they said another patient started late and it would be another few minutes. No problem, but perhaps mention that when I check in? They also didn't offer the new patient paperwork and I had to proactively ask for it. When I finally started with the therapist, he informed me he was actually a shiatsu therapist as well, so we went with that. He started with almost zero pressure (think light tapping more than massaging). He was also unprofessional, wouldn't stop talking (including mentioning other clients and their preferred treatments *by name*, sure I don't know them, but *you don't know that*), and started talking about how tui-na was more for deep work on the body. I very politely asked to switch back to that since it sounded more like what would work for me and he stopped, asked "so what's the problem?" I said (politely, again) that I would like more firmness. His response? Paraphrased: "Well, it sounds like you are trying to tell me how to do my job. I have all of these certifications, and if you're not going to let me help you, maybe you should find someone else." Thank God! I was already wondering how to politely get out of the room. read more

I have had such a wonderful experience coming into this clinic! I've been working with Catherine, Sabrina, Anni and Sara, and from the very first appointment these women have been nothing but supportive and kind. They are extremely professional and made sure I was comfortable at every point (unintentional pun intended...), from the initial hour they spent talking to me about my thoughts and feelings, through the acupuncture treatment and notes on follow up care. I went in for general anxiety and have been feeling much better since visiting the clinic- have been three times and will continue to go! The affordability is just an added plus :) read more

If you are working with a serious injury, illness, or problem never ever go here. This is not a safe place of healing. I was verbally berated for being vegan by a head physician while she was putting the nettles, horrible!!!! I was hit on by my student physician, and when I told the front desk he had asked for my phone # so he could "check in on me to see how I was doing and give me extra medicine" they told me I must have been mistaken because that would be violating their code of conduct and he would be expelled.........so that was that, no need to look into his conduct, I was just mistaken. I have never been back, I will never go back, I suggest you find a place that cares for their patients instead of going here. read more

First session was with a student that was entirely useless. 'Supervisor' came in without any hand hygiene and extolled her expertise as an MD and acupuncturist. Several sessions with an accomplished practitioner and purchased herbs, but results very short lived. Worth a try if you have disposable income, but western medicine/pharmacology works better for me. Will never return to this place again, and do not recommend. read more

This place is a joke. Don't waste your time or money. Honestly. Seriously. Don't get taken in by the "discount" rates you'll get because its a school. It is not substantial enough to justify the fact that this place is garbage. If you need proper treatment, take proper care of yourself, don't put yourself though the experience of ACTCM. read more

My five stars go primarily to the intern I've been working with recently, Andrew Liszt. When I first came to the clinic, I was stressed, overworked, highly caffeinated, and just plain unhealthy. After only a few treatments, I feel fantastic. My stress is now alleviated, I feel healthier, and much more at ease. Andrew has a combination of qualities I've found rare in health practitioners; his intellect equals his intuition, and he's kind while being direct. Good clinic. Great intern. read more

As an acupuncture student myself, I'm picky, but I've had nothing but good experiences here. The interns and faculty are very thoughtful and caring. The treatments I've received have been very helpful. read more

I love coming here for my acupuncture. I know a lot of people still see acupuncture as woo woo, but there's a real science to it, even if it does come with some colorful language. I come here mostly because of stiffness in my wrist as a hairdresser, mental relaxation, and reduce stress. The students are always friendly. They truly listen, ask a ton of questions, and their work is closely supervised by the teachers. Plus, the price is affordable. read more

I just had an excellent acupuncture treatment at this clinic! I created a new business name because the "ACTCM" that's already listed referred more to the school, and catered to its students. I saw two interns under the supervision of a licensed acupuncturist. They answered all my questions after a significant intake process. I really felt like they truly cared about my situation (sleep issues, stress, digestion). The needles were inserted with skill and they sent me home with some herbs that are easy to take. I felt so refreshed after my treatment. Thanks, ACTCM!!!! read more

I went to the ACTCM Community Clinic and it was excellent. The intern was knowledgeable, caring and sensitive. The reception staff was courteous and efficient. I received acupuncture and left with herbs. I will definitely return to the clinic for further treatment. I highly recommend the clinic. I have been to many acupuncturists and clinics over the years. This is an outstanding place. read more

I have been going to the clinic for a few years now, because of chronic pain in my body , and a stressful life. The care that I have received at the clinic is amazing. Everyone is so helpful and eager to make me feel better. Sometimes when I leave my pain is completely gone and the world seems a much happier place. I wouldn't not have survived these last 6 years without ACTCM. Please put all your fears aside and go and feel better. I love my Western Medicine doctors, but Eastern medicine is more direct. It goes right to the problem, the herb they prescribe are like food not chemicals with side effects. I can go on for days writing I just want everyone suffering to go and feel better, and have hope again. Please go........ read more

Wonderful place to get low cost (sliding scale) and effective acupuncture treatments! They have great rates for students too.

I've been coming to the ACTCM clinic to get acupuncture for a while now. I like getting acupuncture to relieve my stress along with other things. I recently made an appointment and saw an intern?, margaret. I liked how she gave me advice to try and relieve stress and other encouraging words. I liked how she was very knowledgeable about the root of my stress -my short periods, along with other things. The acupuncture helped calm me down and also helped with my acne but I still felt stressed out from work etc, so I made another appointment the following week. I told her I wanted to work on the same things and she asked me other questions to know what else to work on. She told me to try to sleep but its hard for me.. Anyways, after time was up she came back to remove all the needles and checked my pulse and saw that I've calmed down. After that session I really felt like the acupuncture helped relax me. I didn't feel tense or stressed out anymore. I didn't worry about anything. I am definitely coming back here whenever I need some acupuncture. I'm also thinking about trying out massage. I love how they have a student discount. read more

I've been here three times now. Each time a little different but each time helpful. Interns are very courteous, gentle and confident. They treated my shoulder pain and then later my sciatica. Do I have complete total relief each time? No. But each time my aches and pains get a little better. Excellent pricing. Thank you. read more

I have been going to ACTCM clinic for years and they are wonderful. They offer community clinic/sliding scale as well as private visits. They are friendly, professional, knowledgeable and have treated a variety of chronic ailments for me successfully. thank you ACTCM! read more

Had my first Acu Tx here today and it was great! My practitioner "in training" was Ervina. I highly recommend her! She is very thorough, a good listener, attentive to detail and I felt really comfortable with her. The initial intake process was very in depth and she took into consideration almost every aspect of me and my life. I felt very well taken care of. The treatment rooms were clean and they even turned off the lights and put on some relaxing music for me to zone out to. The front desk was very professional and nice. I'll definitely be going back. read more

I usually like the treatment in this clinic because people are nice and it's sliding scale, however, today I didn't have a good experience. The person that I saw today was different than in the last two weeks, today the faculty staff was a woman in her 50's or 60's. She inserted the needles in very different places than the male staff in the previous two weeks, she rushed to insert the neddles and she didn't rotate them to make them work. So, I didn't feel anything and no benefit for me. I am very experience as an acupuncture patient and I know a good practitioner takes the time to insert the needles properly. This woman reason to rush was "the patient doesn't feel it", hello? I decided to go to acupuncture because I want to get well and she should ask at least how sensitive I was before rushing. Also, she suggested me to become a vegetarian, again hello? if it was so easy few people would be sick. People needs to be realistic, one thing is to decrease the comsumption of meat (I don't eat a lot) and another one is to eat fruits and veggies. Everybody knows to eat fruit and veggies is better so I don't need to go to a clinic to listen that. I was very dissapointed, I paid for a service, this is not charity and the practitioner didn't do a good job, she needed to take the time to put the needles in the right location and manipulate them a little to make them work, that takes time, that's why they get their money. I even thought this woman was a racist, very unprofessional. Next time I go there I will ask for a male faculty staff, they are more professionals!! read more

I love this acupuncture school of medicine. They have taken such great care of me. They listen to me when I tell them what is going on with my health or energy. You have to tell them everything that your feeling and the symptoms you have for them to know exactly what is wrong with you and how they can help. They offer different services but I always go in for just the acupuncture. They give great massages too. When they are finished putting the needles inside of you, they leave you alone with music or not (your choice) along with a heating lamp for you to relax and rest for 20 minutes. After that time is up, they come in and ask how you feel. But over all it's always good to follow up with a next visit because it doesn't only work one time. You have to be on a schedule to help your symptoms get better. I have been getting really mad migraines and I have been going every week; I have to say, my headaches have improved for all the visits I went to but I have to make a steady schedule for my migraines to not come back. They also offer sleeping aid which helps me sleep through the night. I recommend my friends to go here and so far some has. And I continue to do so. Best place to get treated. read more
