As a parent of a child with autism, I feel obligated to share my experience with Rebecca Snyder, a…read morespecial education teacher at Galileo Scholastic Academy. I personally witnessed her yanking my son's arm when he was just standing there, which immediately raised red flags. I reported this to Child Protective Services (CPS) and also contacted Chicago Public Schools directly. Following that, I had a meeting with both the principal and Ms. Snyder. During the meeting, she kept going off-topic and acted distracted--pretending to type on her laptop and not fully engaging in the conversation. It felt dismissive and disrespectful, especially given the seriousness of the matter. The principal reassured me that Ms. Snyder would no longer have any contact with my child, which gave me some peace of mind. However, I'm still very concerned. I've heard from other parents--and even a teacher--that her behavior has been questionable before. She also once made my daughter cry, and when I confronted her, she apologized but blamed it on having a bad day. That is not acceptable behavior from anyone working with children, especially those with special needs. Most recently, I saw her in the school again giving a young student a very disturbing look during a lesson. I was thankful in that moment that my own child is no longer in her class, but I can't help but worry about the children who still are. I'm writing this to urge other parents to be aware and to advocate for their children. Ms. Snyder's behavior needs to be looked into more seriously--for the safety and well-being of all students at Galileo Scholastic Academy. It's a great school I love it all my kids been going there she is a new teacher. She's been there for a couple of years now this is the only issue I had with the school.

He was in the 4th grade and was struggling with his math (he had gotten a C on his report card. She did an initial assessment of his skills and knowledge (even in reading) to determine and establish a starting point. This included doing addition, subtraction, simple or single digit multiplication, and division. She then worked with him during the hour long session to answer questions, model how to solve the proble., etc. She then gave weekly assignments and went over the homework she gave each week to help determine where additional support was needed. In one grading period my son's reading grade went from a B to an A+ and his math from a C to a B+. I have seen definite improvement. Her rates are way more affordable than Sylvan and other higher priced places and because she has worked at those companies previously, she is able to tailor approaches to meet your kids needs. She is old school in her philosophy (pick up a dictionary, and don't ask Google for the definition; show your work otherwise it is wrong). You won't be disappointed.

I've also experienced firsthand how her program works in the after affects of the program, it is an amazing program for kids who are behind in their academics, as well as kids, who are accelerated in their academics. I have to honestly say I wasn't a fan of homeschooling until I met and witnessed with my own eyes how smart the kids were, who came from her home school program. She has a nine-year-old daughter who is currently enrolled in a charter school for the first time and she's in the sixth grade. She also has a six-year-old son who is currently still being homeschooled and he's testing at a third grade level. Needless to say I have started my three-year-old granddaughter in her program and she's only been there a month and she's already writing her name and identifying words. I have no doubt in my mind that she will be reading shortly.
