Lucky for me, I've got Ford Dry Cleaners a hop skip and jump down the road - and they can usually turn it around in a day or two. Service is really good (though I never go in for anything but your basic dry cleaning) and the prices are on par. They always treat my babies gently and have always removed any specific stains I've brought to their attention - including one huge coffee stain on my cream Lover dress, which I was totally freaked out about. They also offer your usual bits and bobbins - zips, dyes, buttons and the like - as well as minor alterations, but I wouldn't really recommend them for anything but the super basic, super specific alteration, as they're not really set up for it and don't have a change room. But hey - they do one thing and they do it well.

I tearily took it into Ford hoping they would somehow magically make the alcohol and mud stains disappear from the silk. The lady took one look and said they would do their best but she couldn't promise anything. I returned 4 days later having very low expectations, as long as it was almost wearable I would be happy. But OH MY GOD it was perfect. They left a note on the dress saying there were a few spots left, but I couldn't see them. I was so ecstatic I could of kissed the lady serving me. Definitely the best $19 I have spent in my life. I'm generally not a dry-cleaning person. I usually put the washing machine on gentle and hope nothing shrinks. However, there are some special items that definitely need dry cleaning. I would most definitely recommend Ford. They are friendly, fast and do a brilliant job.

It does a lot of local business, so the people who know it don't mind. Their prices are $9.95 for one item or $18.95 for three, so it's definitely worth waiting until you have three. Their same day service is handy, because you can drop off before work and pick it up after. It's especially handy because, if you live nearby, you're likely to drive past it on either of the main roads, and it's super easy to get into - plenty of car parks out front that are mostly empty. They're open from 7am, so it's nice and easy to get something in early, as long as you're back by 5.30pm, which is fine for most people. It's also great if you're a procrastinator and leave these kinds of things to the day before a wedding...

You wait and wait, put more coins in, and when you leave your sheets and towels still aren't entirely dry. If it wasn't for the interesting creatures you get to see in there I would probably try to dry my stuff at home with a hair-dryer. Firle Super Laundrette is conveniently located in Firle Plaza, so you can at least combine it with going to the supermarket. Overall I've always been satisfied with this place because I never had to wait for a dryer and they have a coin machine, which I need about 99% of the time I go to a laundrette. In terms of price and service I guess it's like everywhere else. Around $2 for 8 minutes in the dryer and you'll probably have to use it twice, maybe 3 times depending on what and how much you put in it. One time there seemed to be a problem with their machines and all the dryers (including stuff that came out of them) smelled of gas. Not very nice. But it seems that it was a one-off problem, so 4 stars for Firle Super Laundrette with their coin machine.

Living in the Eastern suburbs the perfect ride on a decent day was straight along the bike track toward the beach, and this Fish and Chip shop was our final destination before turning around and riding back (usually slower due to the carton of chocolate milk and hotdog in the old belly!). There isn't anything particularly great about the shop, it is just your usual, everyday chippie. If you do take the clan down to West Beach, this is the place to head for a good twilight feed!

Lately the standard has slipped a touch and after I personally started leaning towards more healthier options to eat, this little shop has been shifted to the back of my memory. If you're after a good meal of chips, chicken or seafood and are local to the area, don't overlook West Beach Chicken and Seafood, I practically lived there for at least one afternoon a week though when I was younger!
