ACE mechanics (mobile) in Melbourne deserve 0/5. I paid $1500 to get my car serviced and that included new brakes and rotors. After the service, I noticed a grinding sounds coming from my brakes. I contacted ACE and they sent a different technician out to "fix" the issue. Nothing changed, however the mechanic told me it can take a "few days" for the brakes to wear in - mind you, I know nothing about cars so took his word for it. 10 days later, the grinding sound remained so I called again. This time, they sent the original mechanic to my work to "fix" the issue. He spent approximately 30 mins with my car and advised me that he put a little grease on the brakes and he test drove it and the issue was fixed...it was for a whole day. I called again to report that the problem is still there and the receptionist was so rude, she said it is an intermittent issue when clearly the issue started after my brakes were changed as the issue was not there before. She offered for a mechanic to attend a 4th time but I declined as I have completely lost faith in this organisation and capability of its employee. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. $500 QUOTE TURNED INTO $1000 COST AND CAR STILL NOT FIXED. I had a coolant leak that needed to be fixed ASAP as my wife is 39 weeks pregnant and we only have the one car. My usual mechanic couldn't get us in for a month and the engine was overheating if driven. Out of desperation I turned to this mobile mechanic service against my better judgement as their prices seemed reasonable and it looked like a small job. The first guy that turned up was in such a hurry that he left his van's engine running while he checked the car. Quoted me $500 for the job and booked another guy to come out in a couple of days to do the work. The second guy turned up, without the part needed to fix and then left again to go pick it up. He worked on the car for a number of hours and "fixed" it. Then after testing found the leak was still there. He asks me if I had the original quote written down, stupidly I hadn't because the first guy was in such a hurry and had an unfriendly demeanour. Once he knew I didn't have it in writing he upped the cost of the job by $200. My garage was covered in coolant and the car was nowhere close to being fixed. He said that he'd have to take it apart again and fix the part he missed the first time around. He had me over a barrel as the car was stuffed and it needed extra work. I agreed but said I wasn't paying anything over the now $700 cost. After working on the car from 9am to 4pm the work still wasn't done and he needed to return the following day to complete. I had to work so only my heavily pregnant wife was home. The same guy returned and after another 3 or 4 hours completed the work. He then tried to charge my wife ANOTHER $180 for the coolant he had used. $180 for COOLANT. She refused the extra charge and sheepishly he relented as we had the $700 quote in writing. A few days after the work was done a sweet smell was coming from the air vents along with a fine mist flowing into the passenger compartment. The sweet smell filtering into the car was the burning (poisonous) ethanol in the coolant that was once again pouring from the car. I called up and requested a different mechanic come and fix the problem as their work carries a 12 month warranty. They refused to send someone different until I spoke to the general manager. A day later the first guy returned, still in a hurry, and took a look and claimed it was a different hose that was leaking and would cost ANOTHER $250 to fix. We refused the charge and I again called and spoke to the general manager who claimed that because it was a different hose that was leaking it was not covered by their warranty. The original $500 quote had become $950 to fix a coolant leak. I argued that it was a little too much of coincidence that a different leak had appeared and that it should have been picked up on in any one of the three days their mechanics were at our property but he refused to back down telling me to get my own mechanic to look at at it and if he disagreed to put them in touch with them. AVOID THESE SCAM ARTISTS. I bought the parts I needed for $30 and am fixing it myself. I will not give these rip-off merchants another cent and neither should anyone else. Their guarantees, warranties and quotes are not worth the paper they're written on. They are the poster children for untrustworthy mechanics. Cheaper to tow your car to someone you can really rely on, which is what I should have done in the first place. read more

If I could provide less than one star, I would. So I was stopped at traffic lights when my car accelerator suddenly decided not to work, after two seconds it kicked in and I was able to drive my car to a parking lot safely. When the mechanic arrived he made a point of telling me little things that were wrong with my car based purely off a glance - he didn't touch anything under the bonnet - and was giving me prices along the way, he then ran a diagnostic which cost me a further $65. He told me there were so many things coming up that it would probably cost upwards of $2,000 to fix and that, in his opinion, the car probably wasn't worth that. Today I had my local mobile mechanic, Safe Lube Mobile Mechanics, come and take a lot and tell me what they thought. Turned out all I needed was a new battery and that all the issues on the diagnostics were because of a dying battery. Apparently any reputable mechanic would know that. It also feels important to note that I'm a woman in her twenties, and was very much spoken to as one by the mechanic from Ace. Overall I was charged $250 with NO information given about why my accelerator had stopped, not even a GUESS, and was just left there thinking my car was a write off when all it needed was a new $180 battery. read more

I chose to ignore the 1-star rating reviews on here and thought I will give them the benefit of doubt after I received a phone call from them as I had made an enquiry online. Yesterday I had just finished making a booking with another mobile mechanic and was booked in before the long Easter weekend to have my car serviced and brake pads and rotors replaced as we were planning to go away on a little holiday in country VIC. When they called me I told them you just missed the job as I had booked in another mobile mechanic to do it before the weekend. Scott had told me he can possibly price match and I told him well I just booked it in and need it done urgently. Scott reeled me in saying we can get done tomorrow. I was reluctant as I said I will now have to cancel the other guy. He said don't worry it happens to us all the time you can just cancel. We discussed certain brands of rotors and pads and I told him I can supply the oil and oil filter. I called the other mechanic and cancelled with him. I called them back to book it in, we agreed on the brand of the rotors & pads, the costs, time and date. I was told 2 pm tomorrow. I received a confirmation SMS that afternoon. I called them in the morning/early afternoon and spoke with Scott. I asked if the mechanic will call me before he comes. He advised me yes he will. Just before 2 pm, I went to the car to disinfect as this is what they requested. I waited from 2 pm till 4 pm with received a call or SMS. Greg the mechanic rocks up at 4 pm and says to me there are a few types of rotors for this car. I said to him yes although we agreed on DBA rotors with Bendix pads and I would expect you to have them with you. Greg turns around and says well you would be quoted wrong and I will have to order them for you and come tomorrow. I would leave the rest up to you to think what I would have said next. If you want this scenario or the unreliability of scum like this service your car by all means goes ahead but I will ensure everyone I see next will hear my story to make sure people really know how this business operates. It isn't even worth your time or effort to give it to people like this. The nerve they had even asking me to pay $1 more after they were 2 hours late and failed to inform me when I called this morning that parts were not even ordered. Definitely one of the best mechanics I've been to. Had multiple issues with my work horse and took it straight to Ace. From the moment I walked in the doors to the moment I picked up I was met with professionalism, compassion and empathy for the situation this was for me. Throughout my experience with the Ace mechanics and their customer service operators, I was as if getting my car fixed was just as much as a priority for them as it was for me.
