I was scheduled for my first appointment…read moreand when I got there, I was told I had a "three spot check" appointment -- which I'd never heard of before. Since I'd had skin cancer before, it was important for me to find a good dermatologist. I had to wait for several months since I was a new patient, but I'm used to that. I did see if I could get an earlier appointment, but was told since it was my first appointment, which takes longer, I had to call each day to see if there was a cancellation. I decided to just wait. So today I went. And of all things, I wasn't even scheduled for a complete exam even though it was my first exam. I was supposed to pick three spots ONLY that the doctor would look at. How would I know which three spots to pick?!? I've been seeing dermatologists for many years, and I've never had anything like this experience. They are always kind and gentle and thorough. Not here!!! I spoke with the Office Manager before I left, and she wasn't any help either, simply saying that they have various "kinds" of appointments. It feels like a money-making place to me. Very short, quick appointments, apparently, as I waited to see the Office Manager and people were in and out of there in an instant! There are a couple of other dermatologists in Harrisonburg. I'm going to try a different one. I need a good doctor!

Before the appointment, I received a long questionnaire to fill out, which I did and brought with me. At the appointment it soon became apparent that he was not interested in the questionnaire or in what I had to say. Once he discovered I had a lot of wax in my ears, he decided that was my problem and would not listen to anything further. He was dismissive, disrespectful, and just this side of downright rude. I have since heard that others have had similar complaints. I told my family doctor what happened and that I would not recommend him as a referral for anyone. She was shocked. If I could give him no stars I would.

After Dr. Asfa studied the area on my leg and understood its cause, he advised against any surgery as he felt that it was not necessary and that it may create further complications. I was disappointed by his advice and felt that he could have provided more options for proper treatment. Several months after following his advice, the fascial defect eventually led to a small painful herniation that eventually required surgery. Based on this experience and the poor advice I was provided, I cannot recommend this location for surgery that requires nuanced medical expertise.

The office gave out patient information without my authorization. When I spoke with the office manager she offered an excuse but no apology.
