I've bought some pieces from this little store and am always impressed by the wide range of stones and metals. They always have excellent pearls, amber, garnets and silver. The cabinet devoted to rings and different sort of bracelets and bangles is always exciting; it includes enormous silver cuffs and more masculine and edgy designs. The pearl collection is also really fantastic. The last time I was there Portobello's had some drop pearls set into silver flowers, they were around $40, and there are colour combinations from the creamy white to deep purple. The service is friendly and genuine, although considering the size of the store the service can be stretched when it gets busy. Portobello's also do some lovely gift-wrapping.

Selling pieces made out of everything from feathers to diamonds, gold to silver and much more in between, and running the gauntlet from pretty and delicate to wearable art, Black Finch is a boutique for those who are serious about beautifully designed jewellery. Prices are attendantly high but the quality is extraordinary, the craftsmanship exemplary and, let's, face it, when it comes to jewellery good stuff don't come cheap.

The house jeweller is this bloke Raymond De Zwart and the best bit is that if you drop by, you can watch him tinkering away in the background while you browse the beautiful rings, bracelets brooches, cufflinks, earrings, necklaces, pendants and the like. There seem to be a few of these designer jewellery shops opening around the place and it's a refreshing change from the big grotesque chain stores cluttering up the landscape. This is jewellery with style, presented in an understated way and it's beautiful to behold.

Specialising in stunningly eye catching statement jewellery such as oversized chandelier earrings, giant cuffs, and necklaces so big you might need to schedule an appointment with your osteo, Lovisa's wares - which are already well priced - are frankly mind blowingly cheap at this particular store. I've picked up tribal inspired necklaces for $5 reduced from $25 and chandelier earrings for a fraction of their retail price at mere dollars. My one gripe? Despite its diminutive size, Lovisa's selection is so extraordinary that you can easily waste hours in this little store alone. First World problems, eh?!

The clothes are particularly fun and generally one offs, but fairly pricey given the whole locally made/produced/eco-friendly aspect. There's also a really terrific range of cards with funny slogans and cute pictures, some of which have a local twist. A lot of the jewellery is pretty distinctive, such as necklaces made out of old spoons and retro pendants. On the whole, it's basically the kind of store where you can't know what you're going to find in there on any given occasion, just that it'll be something special. At the moment there are some vintage inspired first aid and sewing kits stored in metal, biscuit-esque tins. The owner is lovely and has a really natural smile that puts you at ease. A really fun shop that's great to drop into.

The jewelry was incredibly unique and high quality. It was a little on the more expensive side (as I am a kid) but I found I was completely willing to buy as a lot of the stuff seemed to be one of a kind, or at least something I wouldn't find in my country. The clerks were amazing and really helpful. I'm usually very nervous around salespeople but I was surprised at how comfortable I felt talking to them and asking about some of their jewelry. In the end, I left with a little less money in my wallet but was ecstatic at my purchase.
