I am warning everyone to stay far away from this firm. While Bruce Chan originally handled the file, it was handed off to Joann (who is not a licensed CPA) without a proper transition. This led to staggering negligence and hostility. Joann was incredibly unprofessional, repeatedly yelling at my fiancé over the phone. Most appallingly, when I called to provide information regarding my own taxes, she was extremely rude and hung up the phone on me before I could even ask a follow-up question. No "professional" should ever treat a paying client with such blatant disrespect. The lack of accountability here is stunning. On March 19th, after my fiancé waited over 10 hours for a callback, Bruce finally called at 7:15 PM and was extremely hostile. He actually claimed he was "losing money" on our case--after already accepting our $800 plus payment! He also admitted that Joann is not a CPA, yet she is the one handling sensitive IRS matters and being verbally abusive to clients. Furthermore, they were completely unhelpful in resolving document discrepancies. Rather than professionally guiding us through the IRS requirements, they were dismissive and "dragged their feet," forcing us to handle the IRS response ourselves to meet the March 27th deadline. They do not take their professional responsibilities seriously. Do not trust this firm with your money or your sanity. Picture attached of Joann's unprofessionalism.

We will continue have our taxes done with this firm and would highly recommend them.

I have been a client at this firm for many years. I used to see the late Michael Sanfilippo…read more Since his untimely passing, his son Joseph has been my accountant. Joe is warm, personable and my husband and I have always really liked him. In 2017 however we received a notification from the IRS that we owed money dating back to 2015. Joe stated that he wanted to submit more documentation to IRS and helped us draft letters to challenge these claims. I requested my W2S again and we resubmitted. Joe also advised us to file an extension on our 2017 taxes, lest the IRS garnish our return to pay our debts. Now it is 2018 and interest charges have skyrocketed my charges. The investigation into my debts either never took place, or were unsuccessful. All the advice Joe gave me was completely incorrect. I am especially disappointed in Joe because he has lied to and manipulated my husband who is not business savvy, and truly believed that Joe was our friend. I am in the process of buying another home, and all this confusion could certainly jeopardize our financial future. He has been laxadasical, careless, and downright irresponsible. I feel I should have dealt with the IRS directly. I was completely misguided by this guy. And I will likely be audited for years to come due to his incompetence. I still don't fully understand what transpired due to his incessant double talk. I definitely would not recommend him.

Michael is a consummate tax professional. I've worked with a number of different tax professionals…read moreand he is by far the best. Michael is friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable. He takes the time to explain tax concepts that often feel structured to be intentionally opaque and purposefully confusing for taxpayers. The world is full of awful communicators. Michael isn't one of them. He communicates quickly, clearly, and frequently, which I really appreciate. Best of all, he's used to working with businesses. If you're a freelancer, small business, or a creator who needs help with tax strategy, planning, and filing, Michael is your guy. Most people only think about filing taxes one month out of the year, but there are things you can and should be doing the other 11 months to better position yourself to pay less in personal and business taxes when they're due. Michael can definitely help you with this! Michael is security conscious, which you don't typically see among tax professionals. I really appreciated this about him. He uses a client portal that allows you to enable two-factor authentication to help keep your documents private and secure and WILL NOT send sensitive documents via email, which is a major security risk. Michael helped me work through a really annoying, unique business tax issue that required manual work. He dusted off his payroll software and ran the numbers for me by hand, which is incredible. He provided me with everything needed to submit to local, state, and federal agencies. When it looked like we weren't going to make the tax deadlines due to my unique business tax issue, he proactively filed an extension. This sounds basic, but with previous people, if I didn't specifically make the request they wouldn't file an extension. Crazy, right? If you're not yet convinced that Michael is the person to handle your taxes, then there's no hope for you. Just kidding. You should schedule some time to chat with him. Any concerns or fears you have will be put to rest. And when Michael has finished tidying up your taxes and that heavy weight lifts from your life, you'll totally get why this review was so long.

He misspelled one of our names and put the wrong address on our tax return, basic information that should absolutely be correct. When we asked to sit down with him for a few minutes to review everything and make sure it was accurate, he flat-out refused and became immediately nasty. At that point, we asked for our check back so we could have our taxes done elsewhere by someone who would actually give us the time of day. He told us he had already cashed it, so we asked him to write us a check. He did but then, as he was handing it to us, he pulled it back to make a copy. He then handed us the copy and sarcastically asked why we would need a copy of a check. When we said because he handed it to us, he responded, "Yeah, because I wanted to see how little you pay attention." It only got worse. He told us the only reason he agreed to do our taxes was because of who our family is, and that we couldn't possibly be related to them because we are "too stupid." When we reminded him that we were there because he made mistakes and that he should be apologizing instead of belittling us, he said "I don't apologize". Completely unprofessional, disrespectful, and unacceptable behavior, especially from someone handling something as important as your taxes. There is a reason this firm has so many one-star reviews. Do yourself a favor and stay far away.
