Apparently it's a criminal offence not to have your chimney swept by a 'competent person'. That's at least one good reason for using Ablesweep, although another good reason is that they do a sterling job of getting all the soot and grime that builds up and shifting it before ignites and burns your house to the ground. The service is friendly and the chap who does the sweeping is happy to chat about your heating system, the state of your chimney and offer advice on a range of central heating related topics, very knowledgeable as he is. The only real gripe I have is the cost, £65 last time, although there is that piece of mind element and it also means the Mrs stops bothering me about getting the chimney swept before it goes on fire. What a godsend. This sweep identified problems with the chimney flue of my range cooker and fixed them. I had been suffering from mysterious symptoms like tiredness, headaches and nausea for almost a year since I moved to this house and had been visiting the doctor who couldn't identify the cause. After the chimney was swept and fixed the symptoms suddenly disappeared. I had been being poisoned by CO fumes from the range. So there is one more reason to hire an expert sweep - my health. I wish I'd got the chimney checked out by a qualified sweep before I used it after I moved here. This isn't a do-it-yourself job. Whoever swept the chimney before clearly hadn't spotted the flue problems. CO fumes can kill and I think I had a narrow escape thanks to Ablesweep. Cheap at the price! read more
