If you book a room here you are given a free bus ticket to Union Street and back (30 min bus ride). The price for this hotel varies based on the day of the week. Weekends are cheap and weekdays are expensive. This is because this Hotel caters mostly to the working class who arrives here during workdays and goes home during weekends. Expect to pay less than 100 GBP during weekends and up to 200 during weekdays. Book early because there will not be any vacancies during certain week days. If there are no more rooms, then most likely the hotels around the area are full as well. There was a time when I came here with no more vacancies and the only close by hotel available was the Marriot in Dyce, located on the opposite side of the airport (45 minute walk or a short taxi ride). WIFI connection here is fast and stable. I had no issues with it, and it's free. Breakfast is not free and costs 10 GBP. Although it may seem a bit pricey for some, the quality is very good. They have a buffet of scrambled eggs, haggis, "bacon", beans, fruits, yogurt, breads, croissants, muffins, juices, good coffee and tea. Dinner is good here too but also around the same price of 10 GBP (depending on what you order). There aren't that many other restaurants around the area. I went to the airport to eat lunch before at one point. I do believe there are other restaurants in other hotels next door, but nothing really peaked my interest. There is a Shell station about a 5 minute walk away. They sell coffee, candies, sandwiches, milk, and other items you might see at a typical gas station. The sandwiches they sell there aren't half bad either. Half the price for food at the Hotel and it puts food in your stomach. Update: The hotel next door called Premier Inn has a restaurant inside that serves food slightly cheaper. A full breakfast is 8.75 GBP versus 10 GBP here. The dinner menu is even bigger too!

For only about US $200 a night (average, April prices, booked through hotels.com) it was all ours for two nights. Full kitchen, living room, full bath, and two bedrooms. There was a washer/dryer combo unit in our kitchen, tea and coffee on the boil all day long downstairs, and free washing soap for the laundry. Continental breakfast in the mornings was somewhere between decent and decadent, depending on your view. I ordered gluten-free toast and got about four servings worth. Ordered tea and got a pot big enough for 2-4 people. Only complaint is the beds are quite small. If you are used to sharing a double bed with your spouse it might not be so bad, but when you are used to a King size bed, expect it to feel a little cramped.

The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful and friendly and I was offered to wait in the lounge with a cup of tea whilst I waited for someone to carry my bags to my room. I didn't realise there are actually a whole bunch of apartments adjacent to each other, also some scattered across the road. I was staying towards the back of the apartments on the second level (no elevators) so the assistance was appreciated. The accommodation itself was more than enough for one person. The executive apartment featured a bedroom, bathroom, lounge room and small kitchen with everything you'd need to create a home cooked meal. Given the late hour and duration of my stay I don't think I got to truly appreciate the space available, but nonetheless was impressed. Bed was comfortable and the blackout curtains are effective. I've given one less star because the walls are thin, and as I was falling asleep I could hear people trudging up the stairs, getting into the room above mine and I fell asleep to the sound of their muffled conversation. Breakfast is included and is a decent spread. Ample space in the dining room too. Overall a good experience, just might ask for a top floor apartment next time.

You are also not far from the centre and only 10 min walk from the train station. The hotel has free parking, which seems to be hard to get in Aberdeen town centre. There are two buildings, the Hilton with the normal and premier rooms and the Platinum building, which is supposed to home the better and larger rooms. Well, the TVs are definitely large, no doubt here. Complimentary are the bathrope, the slippers and the small choice of soft drinks. You can choose to pay a small surcharge and might even get a room with a sea view (if you can call it that :-)). However, the rooms are already dear as it is. The hotel is located beside a busy road, but you can't hear the traffic. Also nearby is an ASDA, which I can definitely recommend as the room service food is less than desirable and very, very expensive with a surcharge of £5 for the room service. I had ordered a mushrooms soup and a fruit salad. Whilst the soup was served hot and was acceptable taste wise, the fruit salad was quite a disappointment. It felt like they cut up the last pieces of fruits that they could find in the kitchen topped with a scoop of fruit sorbet. In the bath I could see dark hairs spread all over it and I asked for the bath to be cleaned properly. I also asked for peppermint tea, as apparently this is not part of a general tea assortment. Overall the staff was always very friendly and attentive. All the staff is international. Breakfast is served until 11 on a weekend what is great! The assortment on hot and cold breakfast food selection is great. Lots of choice! There also is a gym, a bar and a restaurant. The reception staff is very polite and the front desk is covered 24hs. The roof in my room looked a bit dodgy at some places and some of the furnishings would need an uplift. What I liked nevertheless was the massive bed in which easily 3 people could sleep in :-) Would I be back to this hotel? Maybe.

The only real gripe I can come up with for the room was it was hard to find electrical outlets. There's not one in the bathroom, there's a couple in the hall that are a tight fit because of the shelf, and the rest are along the floor. To get to the one under the desk I had to crawl under the desk. A power outlet or two on the desk would be nice. There's not any room service, but there's a restaurant on site with limited hours. Even during these hours it seemed sometimes hard to find someone in the restaurant. There's so many great restaurants in the area. Check out Nargile and Paldino. Next time I'm in Aberdeen, I'll gladly stat here again.

Alright, so I might've lied about the simple tastes. Regardless, Hilton Garden Inn at Aberdeen City Centre was an excellent place to stay for my trip to the Granite City. Clean, nice staff, comfy bed. My room had a rain shower which was awesome and a HUGE bathtub which came in handy when escaping the mid-50 degree weather of July (who knew those words would ever leave my mouth, err, fingers...). The restaurant on site has a buffet breakfast every morning which is very fresh and tasty. The location is also close to the hustle of Union Street and not too terribly far from Union Square, which seems to be the transpo hub for northeast Scotland. For the money, there is not a better place to stay in Aberdeen City Centre.

The only reason it didn't receive five stars is one of our suites did not have hot water. Staff offered a new room, but it was the morning and we needed to get out of there to start our day. Surrounded by shops and eateries, the location is great. We enjoyed a celebration dinner at the steakhouse across the street and it was awesome (Miller & Carter). The hotel sneaks up on you, look for Brewdog next door. Parking is convenient and right behind the hotel, plus the offer 25% off the cost.

The hotel is in a great location in Aberdeen as the street itself is really quiet, but it is less than a 10 minute walk to interesting bars/cafes and restaurants. We checked in without any hassles and went to drop our bags off to our room as we were running late for dinner. Our room was lovely - an apartment with separate bedroom and bathroom and living area. I had a great night sleep the first and second night (driving for 6 hours and then walking 6 miles was a help) although I didn't think the mattress was even - we think perhaps there was a bit of a lump in it as we both woke up with sore backs in the morning. The shower was a little difficult to use and the shower head actually fell on the ground and part of it broke off the first morning. Thankfully they got it sorted out for us while we were out that day. The only reason this was 4 stars rather than 5 is the breakfast. This was included in our room rate (continental only, cooked was charged per item) so we headed down around 10am on Saturday to eat. The room felt like something from a business conference. I wasn't very impressed with the continental offerings and it was mostly gone, even though breakfast didn't finish until 10.30. I tried to order a cooked breakfast for a good 10 minutes but there wasn't any staff around, so I was getting a little frustrated. I finally managed to order poached eggs on toast. We also asked for toast for the table but that never arrived. The poached eggs themselves were fine, but just not what I was hoping to start the day with. The next day we decided to skip the breakfast altogether and go somewhere else instead. Apart from the breakfast, we enjoyed our stay here and I'd return here to stay again. Other positives are that there's a private carpark at the rear of the hotel which is free, so you don't have to worry about street parking or paying. All the staff we encountered were friendly and the place overall was very clean and tidy.
