Terrible experience. Peter Filas (owner and sole operator of ABC Driving School) is a very abrasive, condescending and arrogant person. If he doesn't get the review he wants, he responds by bashing you (or your child) and lies about the events that actually occurred during the lesson. He takes calls during lessons, he jerks and grabs the wheel during the lesson and yells at you, which is the most horrific learning environment I can imagine! He accused my son of being a 'terrible & awful driver' and then accused him of lying about not being able to understand his thick accent during the lesson. Peter refused to refund $75 for a lesson we won't be attending because my son begged to never go into a vehicle with him again! What sort of teacher/instructor bashes a 17yo kid, who came to learn from him, on a public forum?! Peter has ZERO ethics and disregards child privacy laws by using your child's name online to tell lies about how awful your kid was during the lesson. Crooked business! Awful experience. Peter in my opinion is a great driving instructor a bit stern but i think this is needed for persons to know it's serious business. I went on about 6 lessons fail on my first attempt but with recalibration and his guidance I succeeded on my second attempt. My son passed road test at first try after lessons with Peter. Lessons were to the point, direct and focused on safe driving for the rest of life. We recently moved to Vernon and looked online for an ICBC accredited driving school for my 17 yr. old son. - did a little research and read some website reviews. ABC driving school (Instructor: Peter Filas) had 5 or 6 good reviews on its home page so we signed up and paid in full on the first lesson for the 6 lesson package which is required per the website. My son came back from the first lesson saying it went badly and that Peter (the instructor) really "shredded" his driving effort and that he was really grouchy. We had driven with our son a few times and felt he was doing pretty good- just needed some fine tuning. After he came back from his second lesson still feeling badly about how it was going, I called for some feedback from Peter to see how our son was doing. Peter said he had been giving my son lots of feedback and "Don't I talk to my son?" He was rude and flippant throughout the phone call - if you want to get a good feel for what type of instructor/person this man is - spend 5 minutes on the phone with him - his disrespect and unprofessionalism really shines through. I received an email from Peter after our phonecall - this is how he described our son's progress so far (verbatim): "I told your son to practice and follow instructions but he did not listen. He has many bad habits and resisted to be corrected." I dug a bit deeper and read some Yelp reviews on ABC Driving School in Vernon and found a pervasive theme - Peter is rude, condescending and gives curt, unpleasant criticism when "teaching". In our opinion, Peter should not be a driving instructor and especially not be teaching young adults/kids who are just starting their driving careers. Don't take my word for it - do your homework - read some reviews (not the selection he's chosen for his website) - and read his responses to the negative reviews - wish I'd seen these before I chose him. I'm not sure how a company is able to achieve ICBC accredited "status" but I will be looking into it and following up with them as well. Save your family the grief of dealing with this person and choose another driving school! read more

Very rude and unprofessional. I felt uncomfortable as soon as I got in the car. I went on one 1 hour lesson with him, never again. He was yelling at me and grabbing the wheel and making me feel dumb. I am a good driver maybe I don't know all of the technicalities and that's why I needed help but I did not deserve to be treated how I was. He made me cry while I was driving. That is not how you teach young people how to drive and make them feel confident behind the wheel. I advise you to go anywhere else then here. read more

Peter makes sure that you establish good driving habits, but can be rude and unprofessional. Definitely not recommended for nervous drivers. He needs to keep more calm and professional, not letting his emotions influence his actions so much. No student benefits from a rude teacher, especially when trying to keep calm on the road. read more

When Peter started the conversation by being condescending and flat out rude that was a huge red flag. He proceeded to get mad at me when I inquired about the rental of his car for a road test coming up, yes it was shorter notice but that is no reason to be rude. To then speak down to me all because his website lack information, If you want to use his car for the road test you need a 1 hours lesson, well in future write that on the website. When i suggested that he stated "You're telling me what to do! I'm not dealing with you." Then he hung up on me.... WOW how professional! Go somewhere else for lessons, because if he spoke to me that way just inquiring imagine how he will treat you when your alone with him "learning" to drive. read more
