I waited a year to write this review because I want to make a fair and honest assessment that might…read morebe valuable to others. Key things that are a bare minimum for me as a first time mom in a child care facility is that my child is safe and cared for properly. What I got was way more than I can imagine. My child is LOVED by her teachers, cared for by all staff members, and she is thriving! When she started, she had a difficult time adjusting. I watched her teachers Ms. Megan, Ms. Cecile, Ms. Teresa put in EFFORT & TIME to help her adjust, make her feel safe to where now she runs off without a care in the world. There are no words to describe the amount of gratitude I have for that type of love and care. As she moved up in her Toddler class, I watched Ms. Madison, Ms. Genieve, Ms. Alyssa, teach my daughter songs, manners, show her such love. Such love that she tells them she loves them as she leaves their class and talks about them at home. These are examples of how great the teachers there are! Make no mistake that no preschool is perfect and there can/will be issues, but anytime I have a concern, I am welcome the opportunity to discuss and and it is addressed. I explained with management that it is important that we work together because we view this as a partnership since VRA plays a key role in my child's life. Working with Brian, Jane, Elaine on expectations have been great and again we are honestly thrilled to have found VRA. This review is long overdue, but the peace of mind, love, and care that the staff at VRA have provided my family and my child is priceless. And for that, we thank you!

I do not recommend this place to others. You really get what you pay for. When something happens to…read moreyour child, you aren't always informed, this place is not clean and the owner is rude, not apologetic or receptive to criticism. She will argue how her staff if always by the book and immune of wrongdoing. My daughter was bit in the back of the leg by another child which left a mouth size bruise. No report was made and no one called me. My toddler told me in the car on our way home. Another time, I went in the toddler rooms to pick up my daughter and it smelt like major urine. Thinking the carpet would've been shampooed it stunk up the entire room. I complained and requested my child not be left in that room. I would not have complained if it didn't smell so bad but this smell was overwhelming. They changed out the carpet a week or two later. Another time, I took my child to use the restroom and found poop smeared on the seat. The toddlers take themselves to the restroom and no one ensures the toilet is cleaned/wiped down for the next child. Being that they are toddlers, I can only wonder how many times my child used a dirty toilet. Some mornings I would set my daughter breakfast in her classroom, I would find the table dirty from the day before. I would wipe it down and you'd think the teacher would be embarrassed but they never were. Another time, my husband went to pick up my daughter from the classroom but was unable to find her. He asked the teacher who just replaced the previous teacher who also did not know where my daughter was as. There is no communication. He looked in other classrooms and eventually found her crying in the restroom. Another time and final straw was when my daughter came home one day and stated her stomach hurt leaving an explosion in the toilet. I asked her what she ate and she told me beans and weenies. She told me she told them she didn't want to eat it but they made her. I always sent her with snacks in her lunch box in case they serve something she did not like and told the staff several times. When I asked about it, I was told my daughter liked the meal and ate three servings of beans and weenies but did not like the carrots. Why would you serve a child three servings of beans and weenies? I don't think any one of them would have eaten three servings and who serves that as a meal? When I inquired about this the director called me shouting and told me if I had a problem with anything then I needed to talk to her about it and not to the staff. Why wouldn't I talk to the person who tended to my child? Not apologetic and very defensive anytime you complain and the quality and care of this daycare. FYI The person who left a 5 star review (Rebekah M) works for Rocking Horse. You can't leave a review for a place you work at. If you look at her friends (Divina: the owner) shows to be listed as her friends also.

They lack structure, supervision, and security. If your child is self-managing then this place…read moremaybe okay for you and your child, deeming security, child care, and structure is not a priority. We tried Rockinghorse for a couple of weeks before I withdrew attedence. Security and supervision: When a parent arrives, they're supposed to announce the child's name. Twice, I was able to grab my child and walk out without any staff knowing. Both times because there were no adults in the rooms with the kids. One of these times there were no adults in two rooms with children in them. I was able to walk into two rooms unimpeded. I walked in and nobody was at the front desk, so I walked directly to my child's classroom. There were kids there but my child and no adult. I found my child sitting with a bunch of other kids just watching tv, in another room, once again, no adult in that room. I located one of the staff and informed her that there were no adults in either of the rooms. She said they were short staffed that day. Behavioral mentorship: My child was NEVER physically aggressive or verbally abusive until Rockinghorse. The director would give me a list of fights, scratched on various scrap papers. When I asked what they did with the kids and what triggered the fights, they would say they "separated" them but had no details as to what caused the fights and whether they had coached the children on conflict resolution. Physical aggression just got worse. Initially I thought my child was having adjustment issues but then started to overhear other parents telling their kids to stop starting fights, so I started inquiring with other parents. They validated that the director was telling them that their children was constantly starting fights. It was a daily occurrence to hear parents talk about their child getting into fights, coming home with marks, and another parent even complained that his three year old daughter had bite marks. I truly believe there is something lacking within that environment that grooms aggressive behavior and it is clear that none of them are trained on child development and behavior strategies. Bugs: This only happened once but because it was bit of a shock to see and because the adults failed to recognize or identify, I am going to mention it. I counted 17 bug bites (possibly mosquitoes or ants), 12 of them on one arm. The arm was extremely inflamed so I had to quickly get him medication. I brought it to their attention and they said "wow!" I asked them if they're treating for bugs and they said "we are supposed to". Food: When I picked up my son, the first thing he would ALWAYS say is, "can I have some water" and "can we eat." I initially asked if he ate his afternoon snack, that Rockinghorse claims to give, and he responded with "what snack?" I then would ask if he ate lunch and he said they passed him. I would ask the staff if he ate or drank and they consistently said "I don't know." Classwork: I would ask if he did any classwork and he would say the teacher was tired so they just watched tv. The director tells parents that their kids do classwork but it's clear that doing classwork is the rare occurrence. We decided to fork out some more money for La Petite and it has been amazing. I have no doubt that because of lack of structure and guidance at Rockinghorse that my son developed some negative behavior, that we now have to undue.
